LYCOPODIUM PROCESS INDUSTRIES (Lycopodium) is a dynamic engineering company with over 50 year history of successfully delivering over 3500 engineering assignments for our clients, consisting of 600 studies and 2900 project executions. We were previously known as Process Design and Fabrication Pty Ltd.
Lycopodium provides innovative, cost effective, energy efficient and environmentally friendly engineering solutions for clients, in a diverse range of process related industries. We provide a complete engineering service from the study phase through design, procurement, project and construction management to commissioning.

ACID TANK FARM PRECINCT UPGRADE

Lycopodium delivered an acid storage tank farm, a concentrated acid mixing facility, refurbished three acid tanker loading bays, designed and installed a Nitrous Oxide Fume Absorption plant and developed the detailed design tender for a further Nitric Acid tank farm.

Lycopodium provided preliminary and detailed design, cost estimating, procurement and construction management services for Orica Australia in the upgrade of its Hydrochloric Acid Plant incorporating key Burner Vessel technology sourced from Europe.
REPLACEMENT HYDROGEN SULFIDE PLANT • BHP Billiton

Lycopodium in conjunction with its USA technology provider, C & I Engineering, provided the Engineering Design and Construction Management services for the new 7.4tpd hydrogen sulfide plant, with a capital cost of AUD18M. Lycopodium’s role included engineering of the balance of the processes i.e. natural gas, cooling water, steam reticulation, condensate recovery, sulfur storage, hydrogen sulfide gas distribution as well as detailed engineering (mechanical, electrical, controls, civil and structural) and the layout of the core plant.
PROCESS MODELLING Lycopodium uses the latest version of Aspen Plus to carry out process simulation using a range of process models including: Continuous process simulation, Dynamic process simulation, Polymer Processes, Adsorption processes, Gas absorption processes, Distillation processes, Petroleum refining processes, and Heat and Thermal design.
Lycopodium also uses exSILentia TUV approved software to carry out SIL verification in support of Safety Requirements Specification (SRS) and assessing Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).

CHOCOLATE MANUFACTURING FACILITY • Mars Confectionary

Lycopodium provided engineering services for the delivery of an automated chocolate intermediates manufacturing facility for Mars in Victoria on a design and construct basis.
Lycopodium responsibilities included all process, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation and control, pneumatic conveying and CIP systems integration.

Detailed design and installation of a culture based food facility. The scope included a RO water purification plant and a new Quality Control laboratory and culture seed facility.

• Expansion of the manufacturing room for the production of a fermented milk drink
Lycopodium became involved in the very early stages of the project, working closely with our client to develop the design. Lycopodium then carried out the detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning of the entire project incorporating Yakult proprietary design of vessels sourced from Japan.

Lycopodium undertook the design of an irrigation system to successfully meet the needs of the environmental management strategy associated with excess water from pit dewatering as part of the supporting infrastructure around this 40 Mtpa mine

ROMMELAG 7 WATER FOR INJECTION FORMULATION FACILITY

The new facility included a mix tank, aseptic hold vessels, the Blow-Fill-Seal machine and its associated services in Class B clean rooms, with three airlocks. The packing hall and service side of the BFS machine were Class C clean rooms.
ALKALOID EXTRACTION PLANT

• Constructed for the extraction of purified alkaloids from poppy straw
The plant was constructed in two zones, a dry area for milling poppy straw and a wet area for processing liquid streams. Site infrastructure was also upgraded including steam generation, electrical reticulation, mains water supply, compressed air capacity and site access roads.
FINE CHEMICAL FACILITY • GlaxoSmithKline

• Facility to produce active pharmaceutical alkaloid products
Lycopodium developed the project concept and the preliminary engineering in conjunction with the client’s technology and patent requirements. Lycopodium then carried out the detailed design, procurement and project management of the Fine Chemicals Facility.
DOXYCYCLINE PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURE

Lycopodium was responsible for the conversion of a greenfield site with an existing warehouse into a facility manufacturing doxycycline hyclat, using Pfizer technology.

Lycopodium designed, fabricated, installed and commissioned a new alcohol storage tank farm. The project scope included the mechanical/process design of tanks, heat exchangers, piping, structures, and the electrical design of MCC, distribution and control systems.

Lycopodium provided engineering services for the recovery of a solvent based manufacturing facility following flood damage. The existing tank farm that stored solvents and resins required repairs as well as upgrades to improve mechanical integrity, operability and safety.

Lycopodium provided the engineering and project management services for the construction of a plant to produce 50,000 TPA of biodiesel (methyl ester). Core technology for the etherification process was provided by BDI (Austria) with Lycopodium incorporating this technology into the overall plant design.

Lycopodium detailed the grain intake and milling processes, revised the design by Praj, (the Indian core technology provider) to local regulatory requirements, and provided detailed design of the civil/structural work, buildings, pipe bridges, underground services, tank farm, loading/unloading facilities, ethanol bleeding and utilities.

Lycopodium provided engineering services for the Preliminary design work for plant re-commissioning and expansion for the feed stock handling, product storage and load out. The design involved a plant capacity upgraded to 240 ML/Year using revised lower grade feedstock.
PALM OIL PRE TREATMENT PLANT • Australian Renewable Fuels (ARF)

Lycopodium was engaged to provide engineering services for the FEED for a pre treatment plant for waste palm oil for use at the ARF Picton facility. The project was then to be installed in the ARF Largs Bay plant however the project was put on hold due to palm oil supply issues.
Lycopodium carried out multiple energy efficiency and technical audits on the ARF facilities.

HALON DESTRUCTION FACILITY • SRL Plasma
• Victoria Lycopodium, in conjunction with SRL Plasma, developed the detailed design of a Halon destruction system. Using technology that was jointly developed by the CSIRO and SRL Plasma (a division of Siddons Ramset), Lycopodium designed, constructed and commissioned the plant to enable the client to carry out trials using Halon gas and other CFC’s to demonstrate complete destruction of these gases.

Lycopodium was engaged to design a process plant to regenerate used transformer oil back to better than its original state. Based on a 1 tonne per day pilot plant using technology developed by the CSIRO, Lycopodium scaled the technology to a successful commercial facility.

Lycopodium provided engineering design support to Renex for a 70,000t/year Integrated Waste Treatment and Resource Recovery facility in Victoria. Core Pyrolysis technology was from a German company. Lycopodium developed a sorting and feed system, and carried out Australianisation, balance of plant works and commissioning management.
