CAPABILITY STATEMENT


MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to provide our clients with the highest quality service and

supply of structural steel. We deliver quality products on time and at a

competitive price.

We are committed to developing the NT through sourcing employment, supply and subcontractors. We

have an unwavering commitment to engaging and up skilling indigenous Australians. We purchase only

Australian made steel, supplies and consumables from local NT Companies. We pride ourselves in being

“Territory Proud” and keeping local business and families in the NT.

OUR TRANSPORT DIVISION

Our Transport Division services comprise of Prime Mover and trailers for all structural steel

for onsite deliveries, Plant & Equipment to local and remote areas. Our Tilt Tray service also

caters for transport of Plant & Equipment to site local and remote, We also do call outs for

broken down cars that need to be towed to mechanical workshops 24/7.


CAPABILITIES

STEEL FABRICATION

Jakes Steel & Welding’s core business has always been Structural Steel Fabrication and our fully equipped

workshop allows us to fabricate steel for multiple clients simultaneously, even while undertaking large

fabrication projects.

We have established a team of young, dynamic Boiler Makers that are committed to ongoing training and

where each member plays an integral part in our success.

All blasting and painting / galvanising are carried out by local companies that ensure standards are

performed to exceed requirements.

Our quality systems cover the full fabrication process from receipt of drawings through to blast, paint /

galvanising and final delivery, followed by completion of our QA documentation.

Our team is backed by modern and fully maintained plant and equipment and supported by management

and administration based in our Darwin Office.


PERSONNEL

Our personnel have extensive industry experience and exposure, having worked on projects throughout

the Top End including remote communities. Indivually they have specific areas of expertise which,

combined with a practical and flexible approach, allows Jakes Steel & Welding to successfully undertake a

broad spectrum of activities within the industry.

Jakes Steel & Welding Pty Ltd was established in 1981 and has remained a family owned and operated

business since day one. Our qualified Boiler Makers have a combined experience of over 130 years.

OUR MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE


QUALITY ASSURANCE

WORKSHOP FABRICATION: QUALITY CONTROL

During Manufacture and fabrication for our projects, we have systems in place to manage our Quality

Assurance from the start to the completion of each project. Upon request, comprehensive reports are

collated and submitted to our clients at the completion of the project. Our reports document each step of

the process and provide assurance to our clients that their completed product is of the highest quality

standard.

Each component of fabrication, which will include the following test reports and documentation, will be

supplied upon request at time of award.

Inspection and Test Plans

Fabrication ITP’s detailing our workshop processes and test will be included.

Tradesman Qualifications (Macro tests)

A third party certificate can be supplied showing our tradesmen are qualified to complete the fabrication to

AS/ANS ISO 90010

WPQR’s and WP’s

Our Welding Procedure Qualification records will be prepared by a qualified third party, these procedures

will then be followed by Welding Procedure Specifications.

NDT Testing

Non – Destructive Testing will be performed and reported by a third party. All compliance reports will be

supplied to our client.

Steel Test Certificates / Heat numbers

Steel test certificates for each order will be supplied showing heat numbers, batch numbers and the

material conforms to Australian Standards.

Blast & Paint / Galvanising

Compliance certificates / Micron Reading specifications will be reported and conform to Australian

Standards.

Jakes Steel & Welding are committed to ensuring a safe and healthy workplace by eliminating or

meeting and exceeding relevant workplace safety laws and embracing a risk management strategy which

Jakes Steel & Welding involve all employees in all levels of the company to help plan, develop and manage

and are expected to follow all company safety directives to create and maintain a safe and healthy

workplace.


PAST PROJECTS

NORTHERN TERRITORY SECURE FACILITIES PPP

Under contract to Sitzler Boulderstone Joint Venture, the Northern Territory Secure facilities PPP was a

split contract with a number of buildings being awarded to several contractors. Jakes Steel & Welding’s

contract was the supply, fabrication, delivery to site, onsite installation/erection of seven (7) medium and

high security Prison buildings for male and female inmates. Creating individual cells, living areas and the

gate house using over 700 Tonne of Structural steel. The Prison itself, now currently holds over 800

prisoners.


PAST PROJECTS

SKYCITY CASINO – HIGH ROLLERS ACCOMMODATION

Under contract to John Holland, the Skycity Casino was a supply, fabricate and install/erection of the High

Rollers accommodation and lagoon pool bridge. This project of 200 Tonne was met with many challengers

with very limited space for delivery and crane access as well as environmental concerns as the structures

were additions to the already existing Skycity Casino and located on Darwin’s major beach front.

MARRARA SPORTING COMPLEX – SEATING CANOPY

Under contract to Sitzler Pty Lty, The Marrara Sporting Complex received a new curved roof for their

grandstand structure. Jakes Steel & Welding’s contract was to supply, fabricate and install/erect the 30

Tonne structural steel.


PAST PROJECTS

Elcho Island, Bathurst Island & Ramingining Housing

Contracted to Territory Alliance, Jakes Steel & Welding supplied and fabricated over 40 house frames to

remote communities on Elcho Island, Bathurst Island and Ramingining. Meeting Barge delivery deadlines,

the project was a huge success in helping to boost infrastructure and employment in remote communities


PAST PROJECTS

Palmerston Special School

Contracted to Sunbuild, the Palmerston Special School is approximately 110 Tonne of Structural steel.

Jakes Steel & Welding are to supply, fabricate, deliver and install/erect all structural steel. The school is

broken up into individual buildings with breezeways all located under one main roof structure.


PAST PROJECTS

Robertson Barracks

Contracted to John Hollands. Jakes Steel & Welding was contract to Supply 700 Tonnes of Structural Steel

for new Logistic Sheds on our Local Defence Base. As this project was carried out for the Australian

Defence Force, for security purposes no pictures of this project are available to view.


PAST PROJECTS

Larrakeyah Barracks

Under contract to Sitzler Pty Ltd, This Australian Defence Force Project was made up of 200 Tonnes of

Structural Steel. Jakes Steel & Welding Pty Ltd supplied and erected/installed the accommodation

dwellings on the Larrakeyah Compound. Due to Security Purposes no pictures of the project are available

to view.


PAST PROJECTS

Braitling School – Alice Springs

Under contract to Asbuild, This project was to supply and erect/install for the new Braitling School in Alice

Springs. One Main building and seven Shade structures. 35Tonne of Structural Steel was fabricated in

Darwin and transported for Install at Alice Springs.


PAST PROJECTS

Centre Point Roof

Under contract to Paspalis. Supply and Install new roof for the Paspalis Building. This project was met

with a few challengers. From timeframes to crane access and road closures to safely unload and position

roof elements in place. Many businesses and tenants of surrounding businesses were required to be on

board in order to make the install a success.


PAST PROJECTS

Ramingining School

Contracted to Probuild NT we undertook the Supply and erection/install of the remote Ramingining School.

Located 552km East of Darwin this culturally rich Indigenous community is located on the edge of the

Arafura Swamp. As well as being used as a working class room within the school, this building also serves

as a community Cyclone Bunker.


PAST PROJECTS

Mackillop College - Crucifix

Palmerston’s local Catholic college were after a standout piece for the front of their school. Fabricated in

our workshop and erected on site was this fantastic 8 meter high Crucifix with the Southern Cross stars

attached.

Djurrubu Yard – Maintenance Structures

Supply and Erection/Install of Maintenance Structures at Dujjubu Yard Jabiru for the indigenious Rangers

program. Washbays, Covered areas and walk ways and tank stands.
