2013 Client Endorsement There was a need in Remote Operations for another contractor in the Alice Springs region. SWEL offer a range of skills that we were looking for and its company profile suited our operation. Ben, the Managing Director had worked in the remote communities in the past carrying out our work for another contractor, so he had a very good understanding of what was required under the PWC’s panel contract. Getting his team together to carry out the first few projects was a learning experience for all but the projects were completed to a very high standard and to the satisfaction of the Project Officers. Over the period SWEL have been engaged as a contractor, a strong working relationship has developed between our staff and SWEL, no project is too big or too hard. We have currently engaged SWEL to design and install a low pressure gas supply line to our new gas fired power station located at Wadeye because of their in-house skills in this area. Engaging SWEL as a contractor has been a real benefit for both parties and a strong relationship has developed and will continue to grow as we move forward into the future. Dennis Ryan, Manager Mechanical Operations, Remote Operations, Power and Water Corporation
Quality Management Systems
SWEL is dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of its staff and clients.
A “quality first” culture has been embedded into all our
manufacturing processes
We provide a motivated and qualified team of trades’ people while ensuring that all OH&S Regulations and standards are not just met but often exceeded.
All documentation and business process are handled through our
HSQE Management system.
Each job or project is given a discrete number to maintain materials
control and traceability procedures.
SWEL re-invests regularly in new equipment and software to ensure
that we maintain our quality of manufacturing excellence.
We have a skilled workforce with a low turnover who are trained in
their respective disciplines.
Training and Skills We keep all staff trained to achieve and maintain competence. Boilermakers have regular Weld Macro testing etc. where required. We use a Skills matrix to identify any skills shortage and address. Where skill shortage has been identified we have a good labour hire base to fill skilled gaps. Additionally, we have strong working relationships with a range of sub-contractors such as electricians, civil contractors and concrete contractors to finish overall project to a high standard. Employment Despite SWEL being a relatively young business, we have very skilled and qualified technicians with up to 40 years’ experience for some of our staff members. Director’s Ben and Kylie are local born and raised Alice Springs residents with a wealth of experience and knowledge in their prospective fields, understanding the issues when working in such a remote region. SWEL Engineering is the only local business to hold staff with qualifications including CWI, CWSI, PhD Engineer and QA Inspectors. We actively work with community to fill as many positions as we can with local Aboriginal people and have an average indigenous employment rate of 28%. We also have an apprenticeship program to encourage young people into the industry.
From the client
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
We have a culture of “Kaizen” (continuous improvement) on the shop floor.
We also have work with a range of engineers who work on design, R&D and improvements
to the process. We ensure the client approval is obtained on completion of design to ensure
it meets the client’s specifications before any Manufacturing process commences.
At quotation stage we will work with our customers to suggest possible ways to save time/cost, offering solutions rather than just identifying problems.
We have many years’ experience in what we do, and we do it well.

ingrained in all facets of the business from welding, fabricating, machining, to blasting and
painting.
“The safest risk is the one you didn’t take”
Committed to our workforce, we continually monitor our systems, methods and employee
welfare. We ensure our workplaces are safe by maintaining robust systems and protocols, with
our systems all compliant with WorkSafe NT requirements. SWEL completes risk assessments
and safe working procedures for all operations and use the SWMS, JSA, Confined Space and Hot
Work Permits for all site related projects.
By involving all personnel, at every level of the company, we ensure that all staff are aware of
health and safety policies. Investing time and energy into workforce training is a priority within
our company. We pride ourselves in the low turnover of our skilled workforces, who are well
trained in their respective disciplines.
