The Orange Bowl Committee announced on Tuesday that it will hold the inaugural Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase, a free one day event in association with the National Football Foundation (NFF) and its local chapters, that will bring together academically qualified high school seniors from Florida, and football coaches from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA programs across the country.

The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase will provide an unprecedented opportunity for young student-athletes to use their athletic and academic skills to earn collegiate scholarships, and ultimately a college degree.

The Showcase will take place on February 25, 2017, at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla., from 8 a.m. ? 2 p.m. All NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA athletic directors and head football coaches have been invited to attend the Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase.

?Everyone knows Florida is a hotbed of football talent for Division I players, but there are hundreds of academically qualified student-athletes beyond Division I signees who are excellent football players and looking to continue both their academic and athletic careers,? said Judge Michael B. Chavies, president and chair of the Orange Bowl Committee. ?The Orange Bowl is excited to provide this opportunity for student-athletes so that coaches from around the country, who may have limited recruiting budgets, can evaluate these football players all in one location.?

One of the New Year 's Six college bowl games, the Capital One Orange Bowl, in years when it doesn't host a semifinal, features the highest ranked non-playoff team from the ACC against the highest ranked available non-champion from among the Big Ten, SEC or Notre Dame. The Capital One Orange Bowl will host a College Football Playoff Semifinal in 2018, 2021 and 2024.

The Orange Bowl has been the "Home of the ACC Champion" since 2006. As part of the College Football Playoff system, the Orange Bowl and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) extended their relationship with a 12-year agreement that began in 2014 and concludes after the 2025 season, ensuring that the Orange Bowl continues to serve as the premier bowl game for ACC teams.

Current ACC schools have made a total of 43 appearances in the Orange Bowl. Last year, the first-ever College Football Playoff Semifinal hosted ACC champion Clemson against Oklahoma. Clemson defeated Oklahoma 37-17 to earn a berth in the national championship. The Tigers? victory over the Sooners marked the fourth-straight win for an ACC team in the Orange Bowl.

Syracuse QB Er ic Dungey led the Orange to a 31-17 upset win over Virginia Tech, finishing with a career-high 417 yards of total offense, becoming the first player in school history to throw for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game.

Dungey was 28-of-53 passing for 311 yards and a TD, and rushed for a career-best 106 yards and another score. The game marked his fifth 300-yard passing game of 2016, one shy of the Syracuse single season record.

For his performance against the Hokies, Dungey was named ACC Offensive Back of the Week.

Houst on?s Mulbah Car is this week?s nominee for the 2016 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award.

Car escaped war in Liberia, landed in Austin, Texas, and, just this past spring, became a U.S. citizen before enrolling at Houston.

Car, his mother and his younger sister lived in tents in an immigration camp as Liberia endured a civil war. The family?s name had been drawn in a lottery system to be allowed to leave the country when Car was 5, granting his family a fresh start in Texas.

A freshman running back, Car has appeared in six games for the 6-1 Cougars, carrying 49 times for 206 yards with two touchdowns, including a 48-yard, one-touchdown performance this past Saturday in a 38-31 win over Tulsa. The 5-foot-11, 194-pound Carr has added four catches for 37 yards this season.
