Salary packaging, or salary sacrificing is a benefit made available to employees to maximise their take home pay through tax savings.

There are many items that the Australian Tax Office (ATO) allow most employees to package, but the final selection is dependent on your type of organisation, and the specific benefits you select to focus on. Broadly there are three categories of salary packaging. They include:

Car

A novated lease or associate lease is a form of salary packaging that allows your car to be treated like a company car for tax purposes, which can provide your employees with significant income tax and GST savings.

Superannuation

Where you allow any ongoing payments such as additional superannuation contributions, your employees may be able to salary package them. This option allows employees to effectively grow superannuation savings and plan for retirement.

Salary Packaging Program

Otherwise Deductibles

This allows employees to salary package an item, such as a laptop, as a one-off deduction, to increase employee buying power through savings on pre-tax income and GST on the purchase price.

A novated lease is a form of salary packaging that allows employees to forego a portion of their salary in return for a fully maintained car. This allows employees to make significant tax savings, reducing the cost of owning and running their car, allowing employers to increase the value of employee remuneration, at no extra cost to the organisation.

When you choose nlc to deliver your novated lease program, we help your employees go beyond the tax savings to also deliver substantial savings right across the car value chain – a better car price, a better trade value, cheaper fuel, and lower service and repairer costs. Our Corporate Sales Executives will be glad to guide you through our proprietary savings data on new car purchase, trade-in, running cost and tax benefits.

Typically, a novated lease will cover the employee’s car running costs, some of which is paid for in pre-tax dollars, including finance, fuel, servicing and repairs, tyres, registration, insurance, roadside assist and carbon offset. We bundle this into one payment, which is deducted by the employer as a set amount each pay cycle.

There are a number of standard employer benefits when you proceed with the nlc novated lease program. These include:

This program is specifically designed for Partners at professional services firms. For Partners that are ineligible for novated leases, we can package their car to significantly reduce their purchase and running costs, with added benefits to those that use the vehicle for more than 50% business use. This program focuses on reducing vehicle costs, minimising administration and maximising control.

Similar to our novated lease program, when you choose nlc to deliver your Partner program, we can deliver substantial savings right across the car value chain – a better car price, a better trade value, cheaper fuel, and lower service and repair costs.

The program has three simple components that make up the package:

Car Buying

A dedicated consultant will work with your Partners to achieve a better car at a better price.

Finance

We will tailor commercial loan arrangements to the needs of the Partner, including the right loan, loan term, and balloon payment to suit individual needs.

Professional Partner Program

Car Management

We minimise costs and keep things simple. We set a budget upfront and take care of all running costs in one single payment. We’ll set an upfront budget with the Partner, pay the bills directly from the running cost account and ensure the budget stays on track.

We provide a 24/7 online account to monitor all car expenses. The program comes with an nlc Fuel Card, and the peace of mind of our expert team of qualified mechanics who work on your employees’ behalf to ensure access to fleet discounts on parts and labour and avoid over-servicing and over-charging.

This program is specifically design for employers who wish to extend their Vehicle Benefits Program to include employees previously not eligible for novated leases.

The program has three simple components:

• Car buying only,

• Car buying and finance, or

• Car buying, finance, and car management.

Car Buying

A dedicated consultant will work with your employee to achieve a better car at a better price, and a better price for their trade-in. It’s that simple.

Finance

Should your employees choose, we can then start to look at finance and payment options. We can tailor loan arrangements to the needs of the employee, including the right loan, loan term, and balloon payment to suit individual needs.

Our benchmark systems interface can be tailored to reduce administration through invoicing per payroll or our unique Tied to Payroll (t2p) solution, or we can simply arrange direct debit with the employee.
