Officially called the Specialty Equipment Mar-ket Association, it features some of the craziestcars imaginable. Over the years SEMA has grownto showcase the aftermarket business, allowingboth big and small car brands to experiment withnew concepts. If you’re not familiar with SEMA, let us be theones to tell you that this year’s show was huge. Itfilled the Las Vegas Convention center, both insideand out. Inside, entire halls were each dedicated toracing and performance, wheels and tires, restylingand car care among others. Outside was host tothe Ford Driving Challenge where drift and racingdemos were taking place all day, with opportuni-

ties for patrons to get a chance for ride-a-longs. Most every car and parts manufacturer wasthere to showcase their aftermarket goodies forthe automotive world. Everything from reasonablypriced cars to one of a kind gems were able to beseen modified at SEMA. Vendors especially lookedforward to showing off this year’s popular SubaruBRZ and Scion FRS platforms. When it came downto the unique and attention grabbing, Japan’s Lib-erty Walk 458 and GTR they were both sights tobehold. So much to see and not enough time to soak it allin. This really was an automotive enthusiast’scandy store.

Ten years ago, with all the vendorsin town on the week of SEMA, a groupof guys got together and decided tothrow an event for fellow car enthusi-asts. This year, with the help of ZenkaiMotorsports and Subaru of Las Vegas,

Flat4 has been able to put together yetanother successful Subie Invasionevent. Subie Invasion has grown to be ahuge gathering of incredible cars andpeople who simply love and appreciateSubaru products.

65 cars registered for its car showand at least 200 people showed up totake part in Subie Invasion's 10th An-niversary, making it the best turnoutyet. However, Flat4 didn't stop at hav-ing nothing more than a car show. Just

across the lot at Silverton Hotel andCasino, were others letting loose in au-tocross, drooling at the view of a fewSEMA show cars, and enjoying the foodand company of multiple vendors. As ifthat wasn't enough, let's not forget the

appearances of the ESX drag car, GlobalRallycross cars, and none other thanrallycross driver Bucky Lasek and Martyfrom Youtube's Mighty Car Mods! Couldn't make it out this year?Don't worry, as Flat4 plans to do it

ake no mistake, this not her boyfriend’scar. “Every penny, every mod, everypart of this car was my heart and soul

and wallet being opened.” Two years on,Bryanna Gass’ passion for her 1993.5 black Toy-ota Supra is apparent from the fully built engineto the custom upholstered interior. Bryanna fell in love with Supras after visit-ing Insane Speed, a speed shop near the LasVegas Motor Speedway. There she first eyed ablack mini-tubbed Supra. “I’ve always been into

fast and aggressive things”. Her gut reactionwas “Okay, I need that car,” but walked awayfrom the sticker price. Later, the owner ofInsane Speed contacted her with an offer shecouldn’t refuse. A 1993.5 stock, six speed Suprawith 60,000 miles for less than the first modelshe encountered in his shop. The only condi-tion being that she build it with Insane Speed.“Since then, all the rest is history.” Her MKIV,affectionately named Charlotte, is fully builtand produces 810rwhp and 723rwtq.

Like nearly every Las Vegas resi-dent, Bryanna is an import from some-where else. Born in British Columbia, her family arrived in the States when shewas a toddler. Today, she is the manag-ing member of her family owned andoperated business, Designers Workshop.“I run a wholesale interior décor com-pany, so I manufacture draperies, bed-ding, upholstery—things like that.”Designers Workshop works with dozensof designers across the Las Vegas Valleyon projects Bryanna describes as “high-end residential and hospitality work.”The upside for Charlotte? Bryanna usedher professional skills to customize theinterior of her Supra. Bryanna dedicates her spare timeto her Supra. The built 2JZ-GTE longblock is fitted with a single Precision6765, dual ball bearing turbo. The caralso has a 4” intercooler with custompiping, a custom intake manifold, and acold air inlet. This ensures the motor willreceive air that is as dense as possible.RC 1200cc injectors with twin Bosch 044pumps supply all the fuel needed (E85and 91) for over 800rwhp. An RPS Triple Carbon clutch sendsthat power down to Racing Hart C5wheels wrapped with Nitto NT05s.“When I got my triple carbon clutch, everyone at the shop stalled the car, ex-cept me.” Acknowledging her specialtouch with Charlotte, Bryanna confi-dently states that “Nobody drives thiscar like I do.”

The hard work Bryanna put intobuilding Charlotte is paying off. Hersponsorship with Nitto Tires allowedher to be featured in their booth atSEMA Show 2012. Later in the year, shewon Best Female Entry at Im-port Face-Off Las Vegas. Inthe past two years, she wasfeatured in a number of in-ternational magazines. This year, sheplaced 2nd in the Dyno challenge atSupras In Vegas — only missing the topspot by a single horsepower! All of her success is not stoppingBryanna. She has more ideas for Char-lotte. Due to the effect that 810rwhphas on a set of 275 width street tires,Bryanna plans to mod the rear of her

car to fit 345 width Nitto Drag Radials.Despite her love for Charlotte, Bryannarecently purchased a daily driver to visitconstruction sites for work. Unfortu-nately, she was in a car accident that

damaged her newly purchased SUV.Bryanna was so calm, the police jokedthat she was driving impaired. AsBryanna recalls, the cops couldn’t be-lieve that she could damage her newSUV and not “give a $#!7. Bryanna’sexplanation was simple. “You gotta un-derstand sir, my other car is way better.I’m just happy it wasn’t the Supra.”

Bryanna gives credit to a numberof people who helped her along thisjourney. When talking about her fans, she immediately exclaims, “Thank you!”Insane Speed remains close to her

heart for the work they putinto her car. Remaining trueto Charlotte’s roots, Bryannacontinues to be loyal to the

speed shop for making her dream a reality. ”I will never take my car any-where else. I will never let my car betouched by anyone else.” She also cred-its her boyfriend, Taylor, with being her“number one support system,” as wellas her family and friends.

“I’ve always been into fastand aggressive things”

otorcycle stunting and drifting. What do these two have incommon? Shiro Kato, that’s

what. Or who, rather; A Las Vegas lawenforcement officer that has his ownstory to tell about his roots, where hispassion came from, and how it trans-lates out on the streets. Officer Kato hashad his own taste of the fast life. Like most people in Las Vegas,Shiro made the trek from Los Angelesto start a life here in Las Vegas. Helooked up to Las Vegas Extremes, a rid-ing and stunting group. “Man, I want tobe as good as them. I just kept practis-ing. I would ride with a lot of the older

guyswho are some-what professional ridersnow.” Unfortunately, all good thingsmust come to an end. As peoplestarted moving away and starting theirfamilies, Shiro found himself losingtouch with his love for this sport bikeand needed to reignite the passion. He found the light at the end ofthe tunnel. Literally. Sitting in traffic, atthe end of the McCarran Airport under-pass Shiro spotted a truck sporting “U-drift: Learn to Drift”. He called them upand soon enough found himself at the

LasVegas MotorSpeedway for his firsttaste in drifting. After going aboutonce a month to U-drift for a while, hedecided to make an investment andpurchase his very own drift car. Heopted for the very popular 240SXwhich local drift shop Get Nuts Lab,welded the differential. Another up-grade entirely, was soon to follow whenhe traded in his CBR1000 for a fully

built Pro-AM SpecR 240SX. With hisnew 240SX, Shiro entered his car into aVegas Drift event. He got familiar withthe grassroots drifting community andeven tried to purchase coilovers fromVegas Drift head Nick Dizon. Every-thing had finally fallen into a perfectplace. The happiness was short livedhowever, and he was forced to get ridof his newly found drift car. This guyjust can’t get a break!

This hard-working man, with his

wife and kiddos at home took abreak to re-evaluate his automotivepassion. But his wife saw how muchthis was hurting him. She knew howmuch it meant to him as well as hiskids. Shiro remembers fondly abouttaking his youngest out on to the trackdrifting. “I remember when my son wasabout 5 years old and I took him drift-ing for his first time. I looked over tosee if he was doing okay in the passen-ger seat. He was screaming! But notscreaming because he was scared, he

was having so much fun screaming andlaughing.” Shiro knew how happy drift-ing not only made him, but his familytoo, so as a joke one day, Shiro ap-proached Nick of Vegas Drift, with theidea of buying his 2006 350Z. Withsome hesitation, Nick agreed to it andsoon Shiro was back in the game. Hethanks his wife for giving him thethumbs up to buy the 350Z. In another lucky move, Shiro hadpurchased a drift ready car and waseager to get back onto the track. Thestock motor pushing 300HP even be-fore mods and bolt-ons was enough toget this car sideways. A KPR steeringangle kit keeps it sideways along withsome help from the Cusco RS 2 waydifferential enabling the rear wheels totransfer the power accordingly to each

wheel. When Shiro is not drifting, heenters his car into shows, the most re-cent being Import Face Off 2013 herein Las Vegas. At IFO Shiro placed firstfor Best Stance sitting low on WORKEquip wheels, with KBEE coilovers. Atthe award ceremony, when his namewas announced, his youngest ran upand accepted the trophy for him. Hewould not let go, and was proud to saythat it was his daddy’s car that won.

Shiro keeps his passion for driftingclose to his heart and plans to keep ondrifting. However, he keeps his familyeven closer and drifting has becomesomewhat of a family affair. Who knows, maybe his kiddos will inherit the 350Znext. “If my kids are good, which theyare, they just might get their own carsto modify and drift soon too.” For nowthe 350Z is all his own; he’s earned it.

THANK YOUs:I want to thank Nick at Vegas Drift forselling me his car. My wife for allowingme to buy the 350Z. Also Wrong Fit-ment Crew who are a cool group ofguys, and Ray for rolling my fendersand installing the canards.

Bay area native Amber Basgall, has called Vegas her home for almost 5years now. She has been active all her lifewith wakeboarding, hiking, and gymnas-tics. She coaches gymnastics for fun, andloves to help others improve. The gym-nastics was certainly a plus for her job intown now. Amber is a trapezist in Cirquedu Soleil’s show “O” at the Bellagio. When not working, she is always findingsomething to keep herself busy. “I’m anactive person. I have to be doing some-thing all the time. My boyfriend can’tstand it! It actually gives him anxiety.” Onher days off, Amber will find anythingand everything possible to do. She canalways look for the next project whileworking on her car. She tells us about herdreams for it.

Dreams are what started AmberBasgall’s love for her 2008 Subaru STi. “Ialways told myself, one day I would own awhite 2008 Subaru STi. I knew exactlywhat I wanted down to a T. I finally havethe car of my dreams.” So now with thecar of her dreams, her first plan was tomodify it, right? Wrong. “What was reallyimportant to me was owning the car first. Iwanted to drive the car for what it was.”The turbocharged and intercooled DOHC16 valve flat-4 aluminum block and headhas drawn in varying opinions. But it’s ex-actly what draws in a Subaru owner. The2008 Subaru STi came off the showroomfloor with over 300HP, so yeah, we cancertainly appreciate that Amber wants toenjoy her car and keep the motor stock…for now.

Having another dream fulfilled;driving her car for what it was before in-vesting time and money into it, Amberspared no expense when it came down toher baby. She changed the entire color ofthe car going from stock white to a char-coal color with red metallic flake, paintedby Pacific Custom Paint here in Las Vegas. She even helped the entire process by wetsanding the car herself. Starting with“small upgrades” as she puts it, with aHarman Motive downpipe and Mag-naflow exhaust, it only grew from there.Full racing suspension is sitting on VolkVRG2 wrapped in Falken Azenis. Her showquality interior includes, not one, but 2Sparco Speed seats, Sparco harnesses, at-tached to an Excite Auto harness bar. At-tention to detail to obvious with the

interior wrapped in suede with red stitch-ing. The time would come however, whenAmber would need inspiration or assis-tance from friends and she found that inlocal community Flat4.

The Flat4 community is a groupof people with their interests in all thingsSubaru.“I could go to them and ask ‘Heywhat’s your opinion, or what could I do?’”A good group of friends that always hadthe information when she needed it. Acommunity and support system was niceto have around when Amber thought ofwhat work to do next with her dream car,and that’s the thing; it is Amber who putin all the hard work. “What’s hard aboutbeing a woman in the car world is thateveryone assumes that you don’t work onyour own car. But, I don’t let anyone else

touch my car, and I do all the work myself.” All of Amber’s work so far on her

car has not slowed her down. She hasplans of swapping the current motor inher STi, into her 1998 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. What’s next for her STi? Hopes of aflat-6 motor with a larger turbo. We say toher this, “Dare to live the life you havedreamed for yourself. Go forward andmake your dreams come true.” Thiswoman is not scared to make her dreamscome true.

THANK YOUs:“Big thank you to Subtle Solutions and theowner Brad. He has been really great andhas sponsored some of my parts. Mike atZenkai Motorsports, Subaru of Las Vegas, and the Flat4 community.”

It's 1997 in Hawaii when threeguys got together and formed notonly a team, but a family. This pas-sionate group of people, this familyof tight-knit individuals, is nowknown to the community as TeamMansu. Mansu, meaning "reckless" inIlocano, is a team of enthusiasts thathas shown love for everything fromImports to Lowriders. With members in Vegas, Hawaii, and California, Team Mansu's familyhas now grown from three, to atleast a hundred members acrossthese three states. Like any other carcrew, Team Mansu makes an appear-

ance at as many meets as possible. However, what makes them different, what makes them a family, is thatthey get together as often as possi-ble, just to hang out, and enjoy eachother's company over some barbe-cue and booze. What happens if oneof their cars break down on the sideof the road? They know better thanto worry, since at least five Mansumembers are likely to show up tohelp their brother or sister out. Theynot only look out for each other, butalso for those in need. They have taken part in multiplefundraisers throughout the year,

such as the school drive at this year'sEnd of Summer showcase, the FinalDrive at Vapors Union for those af-fected by the typhoon in the Philip-pines, and more recently Toys forTots. As far as future plans for TeamMansu? Well, after being in thegame for 16 years, the crew seemspretty set with plans to continuallyshow their love for their cars, theircommunity, and more importantly, their family.

21 year-old Kushtrim Vllasa wasborn in Kosova, Albania. He moved toLas Vegas when he was seven and hasgrown to find himself creating a bondwith Team Mansu just five months ago."These people are all real. They're like afamily to me. I have their back, and theyhave mine. That's all I need to be sur-rounded by." Working at the McCarren airport forSouthwest Airlines, "Kush" drives to workeveryday in his 2011 Honda Accord.Previously owning a CRX, when it cametime to buy a new car, the Honda Accordwasn't necessarily his first choice. Hestarted off by going to a Jeep Dealershipwith plans to look at a 2003 Civic for nomore than $8,000. However, Dad simplywasn't on board with the idea.

Kush soon found himself at a Hondadealership where he spotted the Accordand knew that this was going to be hisfirst brand new car. He drove it off the lotthat day and has started to modify it justeight months ago with a new set ofVarrstoen wheels and a whole new frontend, with a Mugen grill. It's just a start forhis Accord, as he has some major plansfor it in the next couple of years. "It'sgoing to be crazy. There's going to be alot of work done to it. It's going to be asurprise!" says Kush. However for now,he's happy in knowing that he has a reli-able car, with nothing to worry about. Hetakes good care of it, drives it right, andknows it's going to last him a long time.Thank You: Teddy, Gianni Mora, TeamMansu, My Family, and My Family back home.

Vincent Pascual, Mansu's Vice Pres-ident, starts his day off like any average fa-ther; drinking a cup of coffee, reading thepaper, and cooking breakfast for his kids. However, once Vince's kids are off toschool, you can find him in the garage, cleaning his car, and getting it ready for thedrive to work. He works as a TeppanyakiChef at Caesar’s Palace. Back home in Hawaii during the early90's, Vince's love for Lowriders lead him toa greater love, his wife. Her first words tohim? "If you want to date me, you have todrive my car." At the time, Vince had noclue how to drive stick, so she taught him

in her own turbocharged Eagle Talon. Fast forward to 2005, Vince was at theTowbin Dodge dealership where he pur-chased his EP3 that he now dedicates to hislate Father. "I used to watch my dad work-ing on his car everyday, and that's what gotme into the car scene, watching my dad."It didn't take long for Vince to follow in hisfather's footsteps. Soon after driving it offthe lot, he started modifying his car bychanging out the stock exhaust and intake.Trying to get his oil changed at the dealer-ship, they informed him that his warrantyhad been voided. To Vince, that was just acue for him to go all out with his mods. He

went on to add a Cusco roll cage, bolt ons,Bride seats, and carbon fiber covers andcooling plates. In addition, he's upgradedhis sound system and tries to keep it inter-esting by changing out his wheels- everyyear! Vince would love to eventually gutout his interior, change the paint, and slamit just a bit more. "I build this car for myself.I have a certain style, my style. It representsme."

Thank You: Mansu Family, Teddy - forbringing me into Team Mansu, and Mark -for all of Mansu's media assets.

put a smi

le on your face with

her resonating posi

tive energy.

Interesting hobbies: I’ve been into MMA training for aboutthe past year or so. I love it and can’t seem to get away from it.

Biggest Pet Peeve: People who use the word “rubbish”rather than “garbage”. Oh, and also people who are justplain rude.

What do you do when you’re not modeling? I am cur-rently in my masters program for Counseling. I see myclients and try to save the world (laughter). I try to helppeople get to a good state of mental health.

Worst job: That would probably be my first job, I worked atSonic. I totally told my boss, if you put me on those skates,I’m walking out of this job right now! Luckily, he was on myside and didn’t make me use the skates after all.

Christmas wish: I want a motorcycle! A small Ninja at first, then work my way up. But in all seriousness, just happinessall around- no drama, just goodness in everyone’s heart!

What cars have you owned: Just my scion XB. It’s my firstcar and my baby and I would never let it go. I have these chi-nese characters on it that say “think outside the box”, and theother says “fridge on wheels”. It’s tested and true! A personwho spoke Chinese, once, read it and just started laughing.

Dream car: Audi R8. They should lower the price on those, make it a little more realistic. Just sayin’.

One thing you want to accomplish: Just to get my careergoing in counseling and live (more than) comfortably, butstill stay humble. I see modeling as more of a fun hobby. I’mjust glad for the people I have in my life right now, and gladfor the people I got rid of. Here’s to an endearing future!

Favorite food: Lately I’ve been on a really good health kick.Organic, fresh, non processed stuff.

3 words that best describe you: Fun, Powerful, Fearless

her size fool you,

s quite the punch!

Twice a year Las Vegas is hometo Import Face off, a racing seriesthat travels across the country. Thismonth’s event was huge, featuringa car show and ¼ drag racing. WithIFO being in it’s 11th year, they areonly proving that car shows arealive and well, and can only get big-ger and better from here. The showcase featured popularshow crews, with a wide range ofshow cars from track ready Evos, tolow and slow VIP cars, and evenfamily cars like the Scion XB. Showgoers had a lot to be impressed by,because there were at least onehundred (if not more) cars at IFO,simply there for the showcase. This

didn’t include the drag portion. Ifyou were at the show, you didn’thave to be in the stands to knowyou were at a race. Tire smoke was able to be seenfrom anywhere on the Las VegasMotor Speedway grounds, alongwith all the noise that your average9-second car would produce. Be-cause you know, a 9-second car issomething you see on the streetseveryday. Yeah right! These amaz-ing machines built by car loverswere working their hardest to bringhome a trophy. The staging laneswere filled with high hopes andhigh horsepower.

Zenki s14 Pink MachineTwisted Motion Nissan 240sx We want to you know that when you lay eyes onTwisted Motion’s Zenki S14 240sx, it was made to be a ma-chine to represent themselves. Upon close inspection, youcan see how this shop used their extensive knowledge of theS chassis. With so many new drift cars opting for a 2JZ or LS1swap, Twisted Motion keeps it old school with a good ol’SR20DET. Don’t be fooled by this “basic setup” though, this is a fullybuilt SR20DET, including upgraded pistons and rods, and anupgraded Garrett GT30 76R turbo. When Twisted Motion setout to build this drift car they looked at how much abuse thecar would see on the track. They set to reinforcing the bodywith custom fabricated dimple dies, and a custom fabricatedroll cage. A customized massive angle kit gives the car thatextra edge when hitting it sideways. Were they worried abouthitting anything while on the track? With a custom bashbeam put in place, that alleviated the headache. This isn’t your normal daily driver. Twisted Motion put solidwork into creating a machine that is track-ready, tested, andtrued.
