What an awe-inspiring adventure of a trip we had. Most of us, parents of players, also known as the “Crazy Fanatic Parents,” traveled to Duluth by driving by way of the Mackinac Bridge. Paying the $3.50 toll to get to the “Yupper” was a right of passage, and passing such places as St. Ignace, Ishpeming, and Ironwood made us wonder why there are so many towns that begin with the letter “I”? Crazy Fanatic Parents Drive 1,200+ MilesFor Cardinal Playoff Football

Duluth, Minn. – Hats off to the 250 or so Cardinal Football fans who took to the road to watch their favorite football team take on the defending national champions.

Along the way we were treated to heated discussions about how to draw up a TD play for Mo Pete, when should we call an onside kick, and how to get B-Will another year of eligibility (6th year senior came to mind), all the while dodging deer on the road. About 11 hours later we rolled into Duluth dreaming about how nice those world famous “sleep number” beds were going to feel. Unbeknownst to me someone sabotaged my sleep number remote and I could not get it off of “5” (also known as “cot mode”). Oh well.

On Game day we fought the bitter cold and snow and witnessed one of the greatest Cardinal Football games of all time. As Mary Ann Gallina recollected, the Cardinals won the game. Unfortunately for us somebody forgot to tell the referees.

The trip home was a white-knuckled affair due to a snow storm that was stuck to our bumper so there was no time for pity. All the while we talked of how good the Cardinals are going to be next year with that extra week of practice. The extra week of practice that Grand Valley did not get!

Many thanks to all the Cardinal faithful, especially the parents! Without your tremendous support we could never make the road games feel like home games!

The Cardinals finished first in the North, and first in our hearts! Go Cardinals!
