GENERAL INFORMATION

Carpet cleaning in living and working facilities isoften unjustly considered problematical and unpre-dictable in view of its costs. In many cases negativeexperiences of the past due to a wrong choice ofcleaning method, cleaning interval or method ofstain removal lead to such an assessment.

When selecting the quality and colour combinationwhich best suits your needs you ought to considerthe fact that these will ultimately determine yourfuture cleaning behaviour. Our professional ad-visers will be happy to provide you with the rele-vant information. Caring for your carpet floor fromthe very beginning means longevity and costsaving even beyond the lifetime of your facility.

Sophisticated procedures, high-quality materialsand competent workmanship bring about the resultswhich improve the appearance of the product andthus also the one of your facility in a durable way.

This care guide is designed to both support andguide you.We should like to make a few comments in advan-ce to make your OBJECT CARPET carpet floor lookits best and retain its value and, at the same time, keep costs for maintenance at a manageable level. The bundled experience from OBJECT CARPETGmbH, RAL 991/A3 and the fact sheetAWT/FDT® form the basis of this care and clea-ning guide.

The specifications in this guide refer to our carpetfloors only.

To prevent any damage to the quality of your high-quality textile covering make sure you chose thecare and cleaning method which goes with thematerial composition, construction and backing ofyour carpet floor as well as the laying method.

Claims in connection with damages to the carpetfloor and/or dissatisfactory cleaning results causedby unprofessional cleaning and/or stain removalcannot be approved and do not constitute a defectunder the warranty. This also applies if the belowrecommended care and cleaning frequency will notbe followed.

Basic and/or intensive cleaning as well as interimand/or surface cleaning should only be carried outby professional cleaning firms.

OPTIMAL CARE – FROM THE BEGINNING

Transfer of ObjectEven though clearly set out in our laying recom-mendations there is a strong reluctance to followour recommendation to carefully cover the OBJECTCARPET carpet floor during the construction phase.Final cleaning which becomes necessary when allconstruction work has been completed is performedunder time pressure and often lies in the hands ofuntrained personnel. Strong cleaner residue or irre-

parable textile damage can, inter alia, increase thetendency of your OBJECT CARPET carpet floor tore-soil. We regret having to decline any responsi-bility for such circumstances.

Upon completion of the carpet-laying process weare offering the service of a solution package tomake your OBJECT CARPET carpet floor retain itsvalue by professional treatment.

ProphylaxisClean-walk zones: Soiling of your carpet floor mustbe prevented by creating sufficiently large clean-walk zones in entrance and problem areas (intransition areas from hard surfaces to textile cover-ings/from production environments to administra-tive areas, etc.) from the beginning.

For best results install mats to capture coarse andfine dirt.

Daily cleaning is required to prevent the risk of turn-ing these clean-walk zones into sources of soiling. This imprinting effect may also be triggered by theunprofessional use of waxy products in the dailycare of hard coverings.

DAILY MAINTENANCE CLEANING

Dust collection from textile coveringsThere is no doubt that regular dust collection is themost important component in an effective carpetcare program.Dust collecting serves to loosen pigment dirt fromsurfaces and fabric interstices through mechanicalaction (beating and brush action as well as suctionbrushes) and to vacuum loose pigments.

For best results use a brush vacuum cleaner witheffective suction and brush action (with a softbrush), however make sure to adjust the heightof the brush to the correct position and to worksystematically and thoroughly.

Regular inspection and maintenance of your brushsuction machines is a pre-requisite for their functio-nality, especially in respect of its brushes, filters(advantageous: micro-filters) and bags.

It is indispensable that you follow a consequent andobject-related interval:- Use a brush vacuum cleaner for your daily vacuu-ming in areas with heavy traffic such as foyers, reception areas, restaurants, lifts, corridors andclean-walk zones

- Medium traffic areas such as conference rooms, offices and secondary rooms shall be vacuum-cleaned as required, but at least every other day.

This is the only way to prevent premature pile defor-mation in traffic lanes and wheel chair areas.

Stain Removal (Detachur)Time is of the essence. The earlier you work on astain, the more likely you will succeed in removingit. Detachur involves local treatment of stains andcontaminations. This step forms part of the dailymaintenance cleaning pursuant to RAL 991/A3.

Immediate application of a suitable agent will inmost cases result in the successful and completeremoval of the stain. Stain substances, which havea bleaching or colouring effect, are an exception tothis rule as there is no way other than by harmingthe surface to remove them entirely.

Douse spill or stain with lukewarm water and blotwith absorbent cloth (white cotton). Leftover piecesof your carpet have an even greater ability toabsorb dirt. Always blot never rub and twist yourwrist in a clockwise direction with pressure. Micro-fibre gloves can mechanically support this process.Use spoon or other non-sharp-edged item to removeexcess of any solvent-soluble stain substance(chewing gum, paraffin, etc.) without harming thepile surface, then use appropriate stain remover toabsorb the rest.

Prior to cleaning, always test stain remover in aninvisible and/or inconspicuous spot. The manufac-turer shall assume no liability whatsoever in connec-tion with improper treatment.

Remove chemical substances from carpet floor enti-rely to prevent rapid re-soiling. Use no bleachingagents or bleach-containing products as they causecolours to fade or bleed.Always keep detergents out of reach of childrenand animals!

A detailed stain table is available online underwww.Object-Carpet.com.

INTERIM AND/OR SURFACE CLEANING

Surface cleaning encompasses the cleaning of theupper layer of the entire pile surface. However, it isno substitute for an intensive cleaning and can onlypostpone such. Always carry out test cleaningirrespective of the cleaning method to be used.

The following procedures can be used:

Cleaning with ready-made foamIn this cleaning method, roller or single diskmachines are used to work stable foam into thecarpet floor. Allow surface to dry thoroughly(approximately five hours), then vacuum-clean oncemore thoroughly.

Powder cleaningThe advantage of this cleaning method lies in itsshort drying time enabling you to walk on your car-pet soon after the cleaning. Wet cleaning powderis evenly applied by hand or by means of a rollerand worked into the carpet using a special brushroller machine. The cleaning powder will bind andabsorb loose dirt from the carpet. When thepowder has dried, vacuum-clean carpet floor usinga brush vacuum cleaner to remove soil build-up andpowder residue as far as possible.

Pad cleaningFirst of all, apply a cleaning agent to the carpetusing a pressure sprayer.Absorbed dirt is removed from the surface and cap-tured in the pad (micro-fibre pads, occasionallyused by untrained personnel, can damage the pile)by a rotating single disk machine and a subjacentyarn pad. Then vacuum-clean carpet floor withbrush vacuum cleaner.

Drying time: approximately 1 to 2 hours(depending on type of covering).

BASIC AND/OR INTENSIVE CLEANING

Under RAL 991/A3 an intensive cleaning encom-passes the cleaning of the textile covering through-out the pile. Cleaning should be object-related, butmust solely be conducted by a professional

cleaning firm at least once a year.

Always carry out test cleaning irrespective of thecleaning method to be used. The systems must becombined with each other taking into account thedegree of contamination. Floor quality, sub-floorconstruction, laying method and allocated dryingtime are important criteria for the choice of yourcleaning method.

Spray extractionVacuum loose dirt with a counter-rotating brush rol-ler machine.

Upon completion of the pre-treatment (Vor-detachur), a low-surfactant cleaning product issprinkled on the carpet floor. Loose dirt is rinsedfrom the textile covering with pressure and sufficientwater using a spray extraction machine.

Important Advice! – Do not use any cleaningproduct in spray extraction machine!

- Rinse several times with clear water

- Minimum drying time of 24 hours

- Unsuitable for water-sensitive floor constructions

- Unsuitable for loose lay carpet constructions

Combined procedureVacuum loose dirt with a counter-rotating brushroller machine.

Upon completion of the pre-treatment (Vor-detachur), a cleaning liquid is worked into thecarpet floor using a three disk, single disk or rollermachine (low-surfactant cleaning product).

After a short application time, loose dirt is washedto the surface by means of a spray extractionmachine with sufficient water output and vacuum-cleaned in the same work step.

Important Advice! – Use crystalline drying carpetshampoo and/or low-surfactant cleaning productsfor pre-shampooing.

- Do not re-fill spray extraction machine withcleaning product!

- Rinse several times with clear water

- Drying rarely takes less than 24 hours

- Unsuitable for water-sensitive floor constructions

- Unsuitable for loose lay carpet constructions

Thermoelectric cleaning process TEP-TOP-Clean® as TÜV- and TFI-certified intensivecleaning method

The TEP-TOP-Clean® system was specifically andsolely designed for the intensive cleaning of carpetfloors.Messrs Paul Geißler GmbH are offering thisprocess technology. In this procedure, a counter-rotating brush vacuumcleaner is used to remove loose or slightly stickydirt. Subsequent to the pre-treatment process(Vordetachur), an environmentally-friendly enzymesolution is evenly applied to the carpet floor. Thedirt is loosened during the actual cleaning processand captured in a special cleaning pad. It is here

where the cleaning machine’s inner constructionwith its uniquely integrated rotation speed providesfor a constant heat build-up (thermoelectric) ofapprox. 30°C.Thereafter the carpet floor is brush-vacuumed to liftthe carpet fibres and straighten the carpet strandsback to state. This patented process is the only intensive cleaningmethod to be awarded the TÜV-/TFI-certification. Itis the perfect choice for caring for your carpet fromthe beginning.

- No chemical residues- Eliminates rapid re-soiling- Can be walked on immediately- Resource-saving by reducing resource input(drinking water) by approx. 96%

- Improves general IAQ by means of an exclusivelyprotectine®-enriched FDT® enzyme cleaner
