Our interdisciplinary approach, research centers and focus on both rural and urban health will enrich your educational experience and position you for beginning your career or continuing your public health education. As a student, you will take an ecological approach to disease prevention, including examining environmental issues, access to healthcare services, health policies, and social and contextual factors as determinants of health.

We offer one of the few undergraduate

public health programs in the country and are

gaining momentum and enthusiasm

as the first college of public

health in Oregon.

If you choose to work in public health, you may implement educational programs, develop policies, administer services, regulate health systems and conduct research.Prevention is at the heart of public health, as compared with clinical health professionals, who primarily focus on treating individuals after they become sick or injured. By working in public health, you will address health disparities and improve healthcare equity, quality and accessibility. You also will have the opportunity to work nationally and internationally on critical health issues, promoting health and preventing disease, disability and death. As a graduate, you may choose to work in the public or private sector, in government, public health departments, community health agencies or health-related organizations. Other opportunities also are arising in this rapidly expanding field.

If you have an interest in research, you’re in luck. URAP is designed for students across the college’s many disciplines and will expose you both to bench research and the applied social sciences. In addition, the college’s nationally recognized Center for Healthy Aging Research offers opportunities as a LIFE Scholar, in which you work collaboratively with center faculty mentors and graduate students, participate in hands-on, engaging inquiry and create and share new knowledge related to the field of aging.Engaging in these programs will allow you to apply coursework and build your resume to become more competitive in both the job market and for graduate school admissions.
