Pathway Overview

“It has been a great experience. I want to be an Aerospace

Engineer and my pathway experience has provided me a

hands-on experience, giving me the tools I need to get me further

in my career.”

Deborah Jackson, Engineering, Class of 2016

McMinnville High School is committed to providing opportunities for students to become career and college ready, thus allowing students to earn a living family wage once they have completed their post-secondary experience. McMinnville High School has seventeen career pathways that provide students authentic, hands-on experiences. Students are introduced to the entire career pathway program during freshman year in their Freshman Seminar class. Students must earn three credits in pathway coursework as a graduation requirement, and they have the opportunity to earn a pathway endorsement by completing 2.5 credits within one pathway. Students who earn a pathway endorsement are also eligible for a $500 scholarship their senior year. McMinnville High School’s Career Pathway Program provides students a “road map,” with information on what courses to take and when to take them, directly linking career pathway coursework to postsecondary options. The goal is to give students a seamless connection to a post-secondary experience, whether it is career/technical certification, a two year degree, or a transfer program to a four year school. The courses are also designed to mirror community college curriculum with dual high school/college credit as an option throughout.

EASA ENGINEERING AND AEROSPACE SCIENCES ACADEMY

Overview

McMinnville School District has partnered with education, business, and industry from around the northwest to develop this career and college driven program. EASA is a hands-on, intensive program that will put students a step ahead in readiness for higher education and careers in engineering, technology, and science. The curriculum offers an integrated set of core academics with engineering and technical skills and hands-on applications to provide students with broadly transferable skills and knowledge in the areas of creative and practical problem solving. As part of the program, industry mentors are invited into the classroom as guest speakers and to work directly with students on projects like the International Space Station Nanolab and the FIRST Robotics Competition team. Additionally, EASA has partnered with Portland Community College to provide students with an option of a concurrent enrollment model which offers high school and college credit as well as transfer options to four-year programs.
