Self-Assessment
First, I understand that I have a difficult time establishing and maintaining mutually
satisfying relationships. This specific task is primarily a hardship due to my inability
to trust others easily. My past friendships have taught me that people tend to hurt
those closest to them. Therefore, I have decreased the risk of emotional injury by
minimizing the number of close friendships I develop. In addition, while I care
greatly for others, I do believe I put my own wants/needs before others at times.
A second behavior that I can improve upon is adaptability. While I do believe I
adapt well in most situations, I also know that this is an area in which I can improve.
I specifically struggle with identifying and defining problems and then
implementing a solution. In my current career, I sometimes require assist to solve
certain problems. I am currently a PTA and am aspiring to become a PT. The
increase in knowledge that I will obtain from a Doctorate’s degree will further assist
in improving by problem-solving skills.
Developmental strategies that I can use to improve certain behaviors are as follow:
Professional development includes performing research to become more
knowledgeable in areas of weakness. Attaining knowledge will assist with
problem solving and critical thinking.
Building powerful listening skills in order to fully understand others. These
skills will assist me in establishing strong, trusting relationships with others.
In addition, I will me more in tune with others’ feelings.
Taking a course in self-confidence can improve how I view myself.
Furthermore, other individuals will appreciate the strength and power that I
resonant and will trust in my guidance.
I can take action to eliminate office gossip and negativity that occurs. Instead
of complaining about what is wrong, I can take measures to try to make
changes for improvement.
