Term 4 - Week 5 Thursday 7 November 2013

Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers Today’s newsletter contains the second and final chance for parents to share information with me that they

would like considered as part of my decisions about the class structure and make up for 2014. The final date

for you to let me know in writing is next Friday 15 November. When providing me with this information there

are several key points to remember:

1. Share information with me that tells me about the academic, social, emotional and physical topics listed

below in relation to your child.

2. I need the information now. Next year is too late!

3. The final decisions about placement are my responsibility.

4. The class structure will not be published until the first week next year because changes can and will

occur because of changing enrolments and staff changes.

2014 Class Placements and Structure

Below are the major factors we consider when grouping children into classes for the next school year. Please

address these when sharing information with me.

current academic achievements levels

special needs consideration ( Gifted and Talented, requiring Support Teacher Assistance, special needs

assistance)

We always undertake to do the very best we can by every student and we require your support to be able to do

this.

Kidsmatter Concert Information The Kidsmatter Concerts shows called ‘Off the Shelf’ will celebrate the importance of good stories and

performance. On Monday you will receive a letter telling you about the day and times that your child will be

performing and the ticketing process. All families need to understand that we will only have limited audience

room for the performances and tickets will be limited to two per family. They will need to be purchased by the

nominated day and no additional tickets will be sold at the door. We are looking forward to sharing these whole

school performances with you. The dates for the concerts are Tuesday 3 December and Thursday 5 December.

Congratulations To each of the eighteen students who presented their leadership speeches last Friday as part of the

process of electing the 2014 School Captains and Vice Captains. Our Year 3, 4 and 5 student audience

members had some great entertainment as well as receiving all the information about the reasons why

the speakers would make effective school leaders. I look forward to announcing the new leaders as part

of our Year 3-6 Presentation Day starting at 9.30 on Wednesday 11 December. The K-Year 2

Presentation Day will be held at 11.45am on Wednesday 11 December.

Important Reminders The dates for the end of year concerts are Tuesday 3 December and Thursday 5 December. You will

receive a detailed note very soon about the final arrangements for these events. The annual library stocktake will commence on Monday 25 November. All student library books need to

be returned before this date. Please assist us by reminding your child to return all books and by doing a

search of bags, shelves and bedrooms at home so all our precious books are returned for use by others.

As we approach the end of the school year, students will be participating in a range of performances,

presentations, farewells and excursions such as Picnic Days. Student participation in these events is

dependent on them meeting school expectations about good behaviour inside and outside the classroom.

I would appreciate your support for this by reminding your children about our shared expectations of

well managed, appropriate behaviour right through until the last day of school. This particularly applies

to students in senior classes who can become restless at this time of year. The final scripture lessons for the year will be held on Wednesday 27 November. This will also be the

date for a Parent/Community Helpers Thank You Morning Tea. Parents and other community members

who do so much to assist the effective functioning of our school are invited to join the staff for

morning tea to highlight the wonderful contribution that so many people make during the year. Regards

Steve Cooper

Principal

P&C News P&C Meeting

Come along to the final P&C meeting for 2013 will be held next Tuesday, 12 November at 7.30pm. Mr Cooper

will be speaking about Carlton’s 2013 NAPLAN results that have been very pleasing indeed.

P&C Office Bearer elections in 2014

Next year some of the executive members of the P&C will not be standing for re-election. So now is the time

to think about whether you might be interested in taking on a position in 2014. If you are interested or even

just thinking about it, feel free to talk to one of the P&C office bearers or Mr Cooper about what the role

involves. It is a great way to be involved in the school community and contribute to what happens at your child’s

school. All positions will become vacant at the 2014 Annual General Meeting in March. For the P&C to remain a

viable organisation in 2014 we desperately need more parents/caregivers to be involved.

Family Portraits

There were some stunning family portraits amongst the photos taken on our Family Portrait Fundraising day.

Our photographer, Gina, has a special way with children so there were lots of smiling faces. Congratulations to

the family of Anthony Y in 2P and Patrick Z in KF who were the lucky winners of the complete package of photos

worth $199.

School Banking

Important Notice

The last banking day for this term will be on Tuesday, 10 December. Please make sure if you are due for your

tenth token on this day you remember to send in your reward redemption slip along with your nine tokens. We

will then add the tenth token for your deposit on that day and deliver your reward of choice (dependent on

availability of stock). Only nine tokens can be carried over to the School Banking Rewards Program in 2014. All

other tokens will be forfeited.

Apologies

On Tuesday, 29 October, even though all the actual school banking deposits were deposited at the

Commonwealth Bank on Tuesday, our computer transmission of those deposits did not go through. This

transmission allocates the correct money deposited to each individual banker. The school banking coordinator

has contacted the Commonwealth Bank and all money has now been correctly allocated to your child’s account.

Our sincere apologies go to all children for this delay.

Competition - Only 3 more weeks to enter!

There are a couple of more weeks to enter the Term 4 competition. The last chance to enter will be on

Tuesday, 26 November. The prizes include 60 x Apple iPod Touch 16GB and 100 x Adventure DVD Pack including

Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2 & Hop.

Classroom Achievement Award

Congratulations to 4/5SP who are winners of the classroom achievement award for the third week in a row.

They seem like the class to beat for the Term 3/4 Frequent Savers award.
