WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER by Emma Dempsey In this unprecedented time of isolation and fear, as the global fight to contain the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we, the CMM Family would like to let you know that “WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER, THAT YOU ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.” This year, CMM provided free medical services to two venues; Oriental Mindoro and Palawan. The COVID- 19 pandemic had already started infecting a number of folks in China at the time of our mission, but it was not quite in the news yet. The front page news in the Philippines at that time was the eruption of Taal Volcano. In fact, some of our volunteers opted not to join us fearing that the eruption would compromise the mission. Fortunately, Oriental Mindoro was safe and was not affected. The mission to Mindoro was a great success. The Mindoro mission was twofold; the Bongabong Mission was sponsored by Rosemary & Art de Leon, MD & friends and coordinated by Msgr. Nestor Adalia. Msgr. Adalia served with the Diocese of Raleigh, NC for a number of years in the past and has maintained contact with many of our CMM families; the Ng and de Leon family, to name a few. Msgr. Nestor Adalia organized this mission from securing a mission venue; setting-up (catechists and some high school students at St. Joseph’s School helped) to feeding the volunteers and patients (lunch & dinner) for 2 days, with the help of his parishioners and Bongabong Mayor Elgin Malaluan. I thank you and your associates for the commitment to the care of the marginalized people of Bongabong. The Pinamalayan mission was sponsored and coordinated by the Ng family. Our very own Eloisa Ng-Mambil, MD served as the coordinator and our long time dedicated surgical coordinator, Fred Ng, MD sponsored and led the surgical mission. Due to very limited accommodation, we could only invite half of our regular volunteers. In retrospect, I can honestly say the Pinamalayan mission is one of the best, most organized and well-planned missions I’ve ever experienced so far. I thank Pinamalayan Mayor Aristeo Baldos, Jr., Dennis & Eloisa Mambil, for their wonderful leadership . Also, I want to thank Tony Ng, MD , Marivi Ng, MD; Mignonne Ng, MD , Benjie Dilo-Dilo, MD , Joyce Ng, DMD and Nerelyn Marciano, DMD for their dedication and compassion toward the Mangyan and locals in need of medical, surgical, and dental care. The Culion, Palawan mission was sponsored and led by another old- timer, Lani So-Wiltz, MD. Her friend L. Losanes of Hikari SSP Corp. hosted this mission. His sister, Luna Losanes-Sombrano took charge of coordinating the detailed pick-up of volunteers from Coron airport to transport by boat to Culion; provided free lunch and dinner for four days; arranged R&R and our return to Coron. Zantua (OIC) for his assistance before and during the 2-day mission. The CMM Culion 2020 was a huge success, touching over 2,000 patients. The Culion mission was like “coming home” for some of us volunteers. In 2001, CMM was in Coron, Palawan for our joint-medical mission. At that time, Culion Hospital had a patient with a life- threatening chest injury that doctor’s couldn’t operate on. The hospital invited the CMM surgeons to help with the operation. All the Coron CMM volunteers came along and were able to visit Culion. For a few of us, coming back to Culion was a nostalgic experience. Of course, Culion has changed in 20 years. The building where cured Lepers were housed is now a museum. For one thing, it’s not as pristine anymore and there’s a lot more traffic. Some people call it progress but I’m not sure I agree. CANCELLATION OF CMM 2021 IN LAPU-LAPU CITY Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and with the absence of available vaccine, it has been decided that it is prudent NOT to have the planned medical mission in Lapu-Lapu City, province of Cebu in 2021. For the safety of all volunteers, patients and everyone involved in the mission, we will reschedule the said mission to January 2022. Further information will be provided once the dust settles with the COVID-19 pandemic, when a vaccine is available, and when we have more information pertaining to the new date of the mission in 2022. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy and let's keep praying for all the frontliners and everyone in the world for protection and healing. God bless us all! WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER by Emma Dempsey

In this unprecedented time of isolation and fear, as the global fight to contain the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we, the CMM Family would like to let you know that “WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER, THAT YOU ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.” This year, CMM provided free medical services to two venues; Oriental Mindoro and Palawan.

Msgr. Adalia served with the Diocese of Raleigh, NC for a number of years in the past and has maintained

contact with many of our CMM families; the Ng and de Leon family, to name a few. Msgr. Nestor Adalia organized this mission from securing a mission venue; setting-up (catechists and some high school students at St. Joseph’s School helped) to feeding the volunteers and patients

(lunch & dinner) for 2 days, with the help of his parishioners and Bongabong Mayor Elgin Malaluan.

The Culion, Palawan mission was sponsored and led by another old-timer, Lani So-Wiltz, MD.
