Anthony Dean
Athlete Biography
A reserve for the London 2012 Team, Anthony Dean has climbed into the top ten in the world to
book his spot at his debut Olympic Games in Rio.
The South Australian product began competing when he was seven and after impressing in the
National Series, he got his 쮥䏐rst chance at competing on the world circuit in 2013.
A rider on the rise, Dean was a force to be reckoned with in 2014 as he broke through to win his
쮥䏐rst World Cup medal with silver in Manchester. He went on 쮥䏐nish the season as the second highest
ranked rider in the World Cup standings.
Dean made the 쮥䏐nal of the 2014 World Championships but crashed out as teammate Sam
Willoughby was crowned world champion. He backed up his break out year with a strong 2015
which included three World Cup top 쮥䏐ve results to put himself well in contention for a Rio berth.
Dean’s Olympic year couldn’t have started any worse when he snapped his collarbone in training in
early January. After surgery he was back on his bike in a matter of weeks in time to compete at the
opening World Cup event of 2016 in Argentina. He 쮥䏐nished seventh there and then again at the
Papendal World Cup before he bowed out in the semi-쮥䏐nals of the 2016 World Championships.

Lauren Reynolds
Athlete Biography
Alongside Rio 2016 teammates Sam Willoughby and Caroline Buchanan, Lauren Reynolds will
become one of the 㤍爸rst athletes to become a dual Olympian in BMX for Australia in Rio after the
discipline made its Olympic debut at the Beijing 2008 Games.
The West Australian headed into her debut Games in London ranked inside the top ten in the world
and coming o㤍潫 the back of a bronze medal at the test event. She quali㤍爸ed 9th fastest in the
seeding run and after 㤍爸nishing 6th and 5th in her opening two semi-㤍爸nal races she needed a good
result in the 㤍爸nal run. Unfortunately she was bumped and crashed out to 㤍爸nish 15th overall.
A strong 2015 saw Reynolds win the Oceania Championships, 㤍爸nish 㤍爸fth at the World
Championships and claim three top eight 㤍爸nishes in World Cup events including a third in
Angelhom, Sweden. At the end of the year Reynolds had a chance to see the 2016 Games track 㤍爸rst
hand at the Rio test event where she claimed a fourth place 㤍爸nish.
After a knee reconstruction at the end of 2013 she bounced back to form the following year
winning both the Australian National Series and the Oceania Championships.
Following a third placed 㤍爸nish at the 2016 Oceania Championships, Reynolds secured four podium
㤍爸nishes in the USA BMX circuit including her 㤍爸rst win on the tour. She progressed through to the
semi-㤍爸nals at the 2016 World Championships before 㤍爸nishing eighth and heads into the Rio 2016
Games ranked inside the world’s top ten.

Bodi Turner
Athlete Biography
Bodi Turner will get his chance on sport’s greatest stage in Rio after rising through the ranks in the
past couple of years to be among the world’s elite.
Turner broke onto the scene in 2011 when he 倚鏊nished on the podium at a number of under 19
events before claiming 5th in the age group at the World Championships. He stepped up to the
senior competition in 2013 and the following year he claimed bronze at the Australian
Championships and 倚鏊fth at the Oceania Championships.
He made his senior World Championships debut in 2015 where he 倚鏊nished 14th before going to
secure his 倚鏊rst World Cup podium in Sweden. Lining up against many of the athletes he will
compete against in Rio, the Queenslander showed his progression in the sport by beating all but
one of his more fancied rivals a year out from the 2016 Games. He 倚鏊nished the year as the 11th
highest ranked rider in the world.
Turner began the Olympic year on home soil competing in the National Series. Having crashed out
to 倚鏊nish seventh in the opening round he bounced back to claim two wins and a second as he again
highlighted his credentials as one of Australia’s best.
After missing the semi-倚鏊nals at the opening three World Cup events of the 2016 season, Turner
progressed through to the penultimate race at the 2016 World Championships. In what was a
stacked semi that also featured Rio 2016 teammate Sam Willoughby, Turner 倚鏊nished seventh to
miss out on making his 倚鏊rst senior World Championships 倚鏊nal.

Sam Willoughby
Athlete Biography
Having made history at the London 2012 Games by becoming Australia’s 翿rst Olympic BMX
medallist when he won silver, Sam Willoughby will go in search of Olympic gold in Rio. Alongside
Rio teammates Caroline Buchanan and Lauren Reynolds he will become one of three Australian
BMX athletes to compete at two Olympic Games in 2016.
Having started competing when he was six in Adelaide, he burst onto the scene by claiming the
junior World Championship title in 2008 before deciding to pack his bags and headed to the US to
pursue his dream. After another junior world title in 2009, he went on to claim his 翿rst senior World
Championship in 2012, just a couple months out from the London 2012 Games.
Willoughby headed into his debut Olympics as the world number one, progressed through the
heats as the third highest ranked rider and then topped his semi-翿nal. He was the second to the
翿rst corner in the 翿nal and couldn’t quite chase down Maris Strombergs as the Latvian claimed his
second Olympic gold medal.
He again won the elite men’s World Championship in 2014 while also winning the time trial at the
same event, while he unfortunately crashed out of the 翿nal in 2015.
Willoughby made the 翿nals at both the Papendal and Santiago del Estero World Cup events and
went into the 2016 World Championships as the world number four. Unfortunately for Willoughby,
as well as two other former World Champions in Strombergs and Liam Phillips, he 翿nished sixth in
his semi to miss the 翿nal.
