Carroll County News and Notes
Hello! As we wrap up the official 4-H year on August 31st and gear up for the new year, I wanted to touch base with everyone. First, I want to say Thank You for a great year! We had an AMAZING camp, an EXCELLENT fair and an OUTSTANDING representation at the Ohio State Fair. I am extremely proud of our Carroll County youth and what they have accomplished. The Camp Counselors were creative, caring, and worked hard to create great memories for the campers. The Teen Leaders worked behind the scenes to make sure that the many events over the year went off without a hitch. The youth completed more projects through the 4-H Program than they have in the past 5 years and they worked hard on their books and at fair. Members displayed their livestock well, kept their pens clean and congratulated one another during the competitions. Advisors spent countless hours offering guidance, steering youth in the right direction and making sure deadlines were met. There was however, one particular time that meant more than I can say. It was such a simple thing…but it speaks volumes. I was standing outside the 4-H tent where many kids of all ages were walking, playing cards, tossing a ball or pushing a wheelbarrow when our National Anthem came over the loudspeaker. Every single one of the kids stopped what they were doing, removed hats if they were wearing them and turned toward the flag. They remained that way until the Anthem was finished. Talk about getting chills! You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. What great kids!! THAT is the youth of Carroll County. The next generation on their way to greatness. Thank you for making us proud! Have a great start to your school year and I encourage all the graduates headed off to college to remember where home is! Michelle

The Teen Leaders Organizational meeting for the 2017-2018 4-H Year will be held on Monday, October 2nd from 4:00 to 5:30pm. This is the meeting where we will outline and begin to define what activities, programs and events you
would like to be a part of over the next year. We are looking to expand what the Teen Leaders do. If you have ideas, know of activities/programs that we can take part in or are aware of community service needs in the county, please come and join us!! Teen Leaders is a 4-H Club for teens ages 13-18 as of January 1st. It is a group that focuses on leadership training, team building, community service and event planning. Teen Leaders provide the help and support for the many county-wide activities that are held throughout the year. If you are someone who likes to help younger children, prepare for events, work on community service projects or provide support from “behind the scenes”, this is the club for you! Carroll County Teen Leaders meet on the 1st Monday of the month at 4:30pm at the Extension
office. Depending on what activities, programs and events are happening there may be additional
meetings throughout the month.
Teen Leaders Organizational Meeting
Honor Member Applications Due Honor Forms are due at the Extension Office by the end of the Day on Monday, August 28th. What is an Honor Member? The status of Honor Member is awarded to those 4-H members who meet certain criteria every year. It is a cumulative process which means that each year you have to add additional points in order to meet the goal set for each year. You will be surprised at how many points you have obtained just by being an active 4-H member. Points are earned by doing things like: completing your projects, going to your 4-H meetings, participating in Community Service and going to 4-H Camp! Why should you become an Honor Member? Becoming an Honor Member will help you as you move forward in your 4-H Career. Having the status of Honor member for a minimum of 5 years is required to be on Outstanding Court. It is taken into account when you apply for scholarships, fair royalty and can even be put on a resume’. Applications are available from: The Extension office Your Advisor Online at http://go.osu.edu/CC4HForms If you are applying for your 5th year or greater – you will need to fill out a 4-H County Award form in addition to the Honor Application. (If you have filled out the County Award form already this year for Outstanding Court, Scholarships Leadership Camp you do not need to fill one out again. Just let us know at the office.)
