Fourth Sunday of Lent

John 3, 14-21

If we could set aside the requirement to love and attend to the

simpler command to respect, we might begin to see the other

whose lives we share. We might begin by giving respect, and to

learn the meaning of an excellent way, the way of love. We are

too often, a people who live by limits we impose upon ourselves.

Our narrow way of love, by which we love that is loveable, look

only at the beautiful, turn aside from the ugly is too narrow. If we

insist on sticking to that way, the gift of Jesus Christ is not neces-

sary. We might just as well say to God: “Please don’t go to all

that trouble.” It is love that we celebrate today. That love we ac-

knowledge. It is from that love that we begin to recognize the

sacredness of this world and how holy it is because God so loves

it. Finding our place in the world allows us then to know our way

of life as a people who acknowledge and recognize the holy all

around us. Our respect for that sacredness our respect for what is

holy moves us to accept the love God has for us a love that trans-

forms us and makes us holy. Part of our repentance this season

may somehow involve an end of our refusal to be loved, and con-

sequently to be respectful and be holy ourselves. Our response to

that love and mercy of God begins to come from the hearts that

are healed, restored, and forgiven. It shows itself in respect for the

world, the earth, for what grows, for what we breathe and drink,

and for life itself in every form it presents itself. Those who make

a trash heap of the earth who abuse life, who insist that their

choices include the destruction of life are a people who have not

yet opened themselves to receive the love of God and have not yet

found their place in the network of sacred relationships in the

world that God so loves.

CARTA del PASTOR

Queridos Amigos en Cristo,

Si llamó desde el Sábado 24 de Febrero, Martes por la tarde, 27

de Febrero, y no se comunicó con nadie por teléfono, esto se

debe a que nuestro sistema telefónico no funcionaba durante ese

tiempo. Nuestra conexión a Internet y nuestro servidor parro-

quial tampoco funcionaban durante ese tiempo y todavía no

funcionaban hasta al menos el pasado Miércoles. Lo que este

"inconveniente" me hizo saber es cuánto trabajo, incluso el tra-

bajo de la iglesia, se hace por medio de correo electrónico y

computadora.

Este Jueves por la noche de 7:30 a 8:30 p.m. en la iglesia habrá

un taller para ujieres. Necesitamos más ujieres capacitados para

que los mismos ujieres no tengan que hacer este ministerio tan a

menudo. Necesitamos especialmente más ujieres en nuestras

Misas más concurridas --- la Misa de 10:30 a.m. en inglés y las

12:30 p.m. Misa en español Aquellos jóvenes como los estu-

diantes de preparatoria pueden ayudar con este ministerio, que

básicamente implica los siguientes deberes. Antes de la Misa,

los acomodadores dan la bienvenida a la gente al área de reu-

nión y al área de la iglesia y los sientan cuando sea necesario.

Ellos toman la colección y luego dan los regalos del pan, el vino

y las donaciones monetarias a varias personas que han pedido

antes de la misa para llevar estos regalos al altar. Los acomoda-

dores coordinan la "colección de niños" después de la Comu-

nión. También ponen las colecciones en bolsas bancarias. Más

que nada, este ministerio es un ministerio de hospitalidad, de

hacer que aquellos que vienen a Misa se sientan bienvenidos

como si fueran Cristo.

Este próximo Sábado de 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. es nuestro segundo día

de trabajo parroquial anual. Este día de trabajo surgió de la ne-

cesidad de que nuestros jóvenes, especialmente los que se pre-

paran para la Confirmación, cumplan con el requisito de algu-

nas horas de servicio, pero también para que puedan retribuir a

la parroquia. Cualquiera puede venir y ayudar, y la limpieza se

realizará tanto en interiores como en exteriores. Annamarie Du-

ty, nuestra DRE y Coordinadora del Ministerio de la Juventud,

está organizando este día de trabajo.

El próximo Domingo, 11 de Marzo, el diseño revisado de nues-

tro nuevo edificio de la iglesia se presentará en español después

de la misa en español alrededor de la 1:45 p.m. La presentación

en inglés tendrá lugar ese mismo domingo por la tarde a las 7

p.m. en la iglesia. J.C. Witcher, arquitecto principal de Archi-

tectural Design Group (ADG), supervisará esta presentación

con la ayuda de algunos de los miembros de su equipo. Inclu-

yendo tiempo para preguntas y comentarios, esta presentación

durará alrededor de una hora a 1 hora y 15 minutos. Ven y

aprende sobre el diseño revisado.

Nuestras Misiones Parroquiales de Cuaresma están a la vuelta

de la esquina, con la Misión de Cuaresma en español, dirigida

por el Padre. Hilario Rivera, que tendrá lugar del 12 al 15 de

Marzo. Padre Rivera celebró todas las Misas del fin de semana

el verano pasado cuando vino a compartir con nuestra parroquia

sobre el buen trabajo de Cross International. La Misión Cuares-

mal en inglés será dirigida por el Padre. Albert Haase, OFM, y

tendrá lugar en las noches del 18 al 20 de Marzo. Padre Albert

también predicará en todos las Misas Febrero 17-18.

SCHOLARSHIPS ARE NOW AVAILABLE:

The 2018-2019 Holy Spirit Catholic Church Schol-

arship Applications are now available. Our Holy

Spirit Parish offers a $250 scholarship to any four

High School students registered as a Holy Spirit

parishioner who is actively involved and in good

standing with the church. The parishioner can be

presently attending and/or accepted as an under-

graduate student to a 2-4 year college/ university in

the upcoming fall. Each scholarship recipient may

reapply for a maximum of four years. Please see

your DRE for more information and application.

Catholic foundation scholarships available

The 2018-2019 Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma scholarship applications is now available. The Catholic Foundation offers a $6,000 scholarship to students at-tending a non -Catholic college or university and a $12,000 scholarship to students attend a Catholic col-lege or university. Additional scholarships may be available to a University of Oklahoma medical student, and a nursing student at the school of their choice. The rosary will be prayed after the 8:30 a.m. Mass every Thursday of the month for the construction of the new church building ex-cept for the 4th Thursday, when the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for the monthly day of prayer.

JOY (Just Older Youth)

JOY is a ministry to, by, with, and for our senior parishioners. Any member of the parish (single, married, or widowed) who is 55 years of age or older is encouraged to participate in this fun and informative group. If one is in a mixed mar-riage, the non-Catholic spouse is always wel-come.

Once a month on the second Thursday, the JOY group meets in the Parish Hall either to share a meal, join in a pleasurable activity, or both. Other activities are planned and engaged in when the opportunity presents itself.

Shepherd Field Group

A Christian Group from Bethlehem in the Holy Land is visiting our church March the 10 & 11.

They come to us to sell the olive wood carvings and crafts that are hand made by the Christians in the Holy Land. This is their main source of income.

We need to support these people by buying their beautiful olive wood carvings and crafts so we can help Christian families stay in the Holy Land.

Pray for the Christians in the Holy Land and support them so we all can do our part to keep our Chris-tian bells ringing in the Holy Land. Thanks and God bless.
