data base, the largest in the cattle industry. Our bulls are evaluated from birth for every important economic trait identifiable.

You will notice that our EPD accuracies are much higher than most yearling bulls being offered for sale. This is a reflection of our DNA analysis on each bull we sell. If you would like to review the Igenity profile on any of our bulls, we are happy to supply that information for you.We believe in the Angus mother cow and her ability to efficiently raise a calf in a no-nonsense manner. We do

not creep-feed our calves. Until weaning, they are raised on their mother’s milk and native Sandhills grass.Our bulls are developed in very large grass paddocks, with soundness, fertility and longevity being our primary

goals. Our nutrition program, which is covered in an article on page 2, is designed to help us meet those objec-tives and to best utilize the feed reserves we produce here at home. This enables our bulls to reach their full genetic potential.We believe in the value of evaluating our cattle phenotypically. You will find our cattle are sound, deep-ribbed,

high volume and show tremendous expression of muscle. Our cow herd is moderate in height, massive in volume, angular and feminine. We emphasize udder quality and

milk in our selection process. Disposition is a major factor in determining who stays and who goes.We believe our cattle must work for you, our customers, and we greatly appreciate your years of support. Your

Developing Bulls with a Purina® Accuration® Program Makes Sense for Carter Family Angus

Sam Carter, owner of Carter Family Angus has developed their 2012 bulls on a Purina® Accuration® Program. This change in their nutritional program aided in producing bulls with a uniformed look. The switch from a conventional corn silage and hay ration to a Purina® Accuration® and corn ration, along with high-quality prairie hay, has helped deliver these results.

“The Purina® Accuration® Program will allow us to easily transition our bulls from a growing diet in a dry lot to a breeding diet on forage or pasture, providing functioning bulls in May for our buyers”, says Sam. The bulls were weaned Mid-August and transitioned to a growing diet to optimize development. After the start of the new

year, Carter Family Angus will transition the ration to focus on “hardening up” and having the bulls ready for May breeding season.

“Our bulls have maintained condition since weaning, are structurally sound, and have healthy looking hooves”, states Sam. In addition to feeding Purina® Accuration®, Carter Family Angus also strongly believes in a consistent mineral program for their

bulls, cows and heifers. Their cattle are fed the Purina® Wind and Rain® Minerals with Zinpro Availa® 4 Organic Trace Minerals year-round. Moreover,

Purina® Stress Tubs, containing Zinpro Availa® 4 Organic Trace Minerals and Diamond V® Original XPC™ are available to their developing bulls to support rumen performance. In addition to supporting rumen performance, Sam believes a consistent mineral program that includes chelated minerals aids conception rates, even in a dry year.

“Producers will find the Purina® Accuration® Program easily replicated at their own ranch,” says Sam. Because the Purina® Accuration® Program uses homegrown forage sources and encourages forage utilization, producers can rely less on corn and more on their available forage. This is our third Pioneer crop. His sons are extremely well received, but perhaps his greatest contributions to our program are his daughters that we have retained in our herd.
