    No Human/Demihuman Races

    The fun of the Thundercats is that there were no humans and that image of a world

    populated by anthropomorphic animals was something dierent and alien. (To my

    knowledge !umm"Ra was the only Human on Third #arth$ %se only anthro"animal

    races like &nolls 'iardmen catfolk etc.

    !edium !agic

    Remo)e classes that prepare spells in ad)ance such as wiard and cleric and allow

    only spontaneous casters like sorcerers and fa)ored souls. This is slightly lower the

    magic le)el of the world by limiting the number of spells your players will ha)e

    access to but most importantly it will better *t the theme of primal forces and

    innate power.

    Dealing with Tech

    The new series sets up technology as something that the Thundercats don+t use or

    really understand. This approach will help to highlight the nature/tech dichotomy of

    the show and make your life easier as a D!. Tech should be as obscure to your

    characters as ancient artifacts are to your players.

    ,f you get too liberal with the Tech you wont be playing a fantasy game any more. ,f

    you add too much it will cease to be powerful and mystical. -esides tech is the

    weapon of !umm"Ra and his forces if you gi)e your players too much tech it will

    blur the lines between the nature/tech struggle at the heart of the series.

    , would use the futuristic weapons listed in the D!& page 0 to out*t !umm"Ra+s

    goons. 1 Thundrillium shortage could e2plain away e)ery single soldier doesn+t

    carry a ri3e.

    and would be impossible to duplicate.

    The claw shield is a leather glo)e reinforced with steel strips. ,t acts as a buckler

    and thanks to its steel claws can act as a slashing weapon as well. -ecause of itsstrange nature the claw shield is an e2otic weapon. (D!+s could consider gi)ing

    The shield claw cannot be used to perform a shield bash and the user cannot wield

    a weapon in their claw hand as the claws are *2ed. The shield claw is considered a

    light weapon. 7law shields can be adapted to sheath small blades.

    The Thundercats were an ancient race of feline humanoid outsider nobles that 3ed

    their doomed anthropomorphic plane and e)entually found their way to the Crime

    !utants who ranged from anthropomorphic Backles and liards to apes and

    -ut that was many ages ago and the outcome of their battles is not known. Time

    came and time went and both the Thundercats and the !utants e)entually

    )anished from the face of the erth their magics faded and their weapons were lostto the ages. 1ll but one the most powerful relic of their doomed plane a sword of

    energy similar to a Ray of ?rost. This ray reJuires a Ranged Touch 1ttack to hit and

    does dFword of mens functions only as a hortsword.

    points of Holy damage e)ery round they attempt to grasp it.

    Howe)er by co)ering the catseye gemstone in the hilt either by wrapping it in

    true alignment.

    additional powers based on the sword. ,f the eye is blinded the 'ord of the

    Thundercats loses 1'' granted abilities (including the ability to 7all >word$ until the

    eyeIs sight is restored.

    The 7law >hield is the companion piece to the >word of mens. ,ts most basic

    function is that of a mall >hield but it also possesses se)eral

    lesser functions6

    >heath6 The 7law >hield functions as a sheath for the >word of mens. 5hile

    sheathed in the 7law >hield the >word of mens may not be remo)ed by anyone

    but the 'ord of the Thundercats. Howe)er while sheathed the sword cannot use

    any of itIs special abilities sa)e for the Danger 5arning ability. 5hile sheathed it is

    also incapable of dealing damage to e)il aligned characters when grasped.

    7laws6 The 7law >hield is not called a 7lawed >hield for nothing. n the end of each

    *nger is a large sharp claw. Treat these claws as shield spikes that do slashing

    damage instead of piercing.

    &rappling Rope6 The 7law >hield is capable of *ring a medium length line of

    rope/wire from one of itIs claws as a standard action. The range for this rope is 88

    ft and the adamantine claw tip allows it to lodge into e)en solid stone on a

    successful ranged touch attack. Howe)er this ability is incapable of causing

    damage to an opponent. ,f the rope is cut or broken the 7law >hield may not use

    this ability until it is repaired.

    >mokescreen6 The 7law >hield has a hidden slot inside of it that can hold one

    smokestick. 1s a full round action the claw shield may ignite the smokestick and

    proBect out a cloud of obscuring smoke in front of the wearer )ia concealed tubes

    under the knuckle studs. Treat smoke normally.

    5hile the dierence between 1dam and He"!an is physical it is not psychological.

    1dam can be well intentioned and bra)e when he wants to be but as a warrior he

    is clearly an amateur. >adly because he must keep his alter"ego a secret from

    almost e)erybody and must freJuently 3ee from danger to make the change manyof his friends " and e)en his parents " tend to belie)e he is a coward.

    Cossessions6 The >word of &reyskull 'arge teel >hield (only occasionally

    carried$. He"!an seldom carries any weapons armamens or magic items other

    than these.

    The >word of &reyskull6 This ornate bastard sword created by 7astle &reyskull

    itself is a potent artifact and the key to He"!anIs power. ,ts primary purpose is toser)e as a link between He"!an and &reyskullO in fact it may be that the >word

    itself has no true powers of its own and &reyskull is the only true artifact (&reyskull

    ,> an artifact of immesurable power perhaps the most powerful in e2istence so the

    Juestion remains unknown$. 1t any rate this link cannot be se)ered " e)en if He"

    !an is on another plane the >word can still draw power from its creator.

    1s a weapon the >word of &reyskull is a Holy >hocking -urst !ighty 7lea)ing word. (,t is not an intelligent weapon probably because it is an e2tension

    of &reyskull which ,> sentient and intelligent$. Howe)er the >word has many other

    powers.

    L Crimarily the >word can transform 1dam to He"!an and back (see 1lter"#go

    abo)e$. #ach transformation takes a full round action (but since it is always done

    out of site away from combat this is rarely a problem$. He may transform from

    1dam to He"!an and back again as many times as necessary.

    5hen in 1damIs form the >word also changes becoming a rather plain bastard

    sword. ,n this dormant state the sword has no powers other than the ability to

    transform 1dam to He"!an.

    L Ten times per day as a full round action He"!an can use the >word to draw power

    from &reyskull increasing his >trength De2terity or 7onstitution by *)e points for

    one hour. Note that while limited to ten times per day He can use this ability round

    after round if he so desires gi)ing himself godlike strength in mere minutes.

    -eing a paladin He"!anIs primary concerns in a crisis are to protect innocents aid

    his allies and apprehend criminals " in that order. ,f #)il"lyn is pelting a )illage with?ireballs his *rst Bob is to get the )illagers to safety calling the !asters for backup

    in the process. ,f doing so means letting #)il"lyn get away to do it so be it.

    5hen *ghting >keletorIs hordes He"!an wonIt necessarily *ght for keeps. He ,> a

    paladin and he knows the meaning of mercy. ,f a foe is near defeat heIll always

    gi)e them a chance to surrender. nly when all else has failed will he consider

    killing an enemy. His restraint and self"control is admired by many heroes.

    History6 To fully understand the history of He"!an one must understand the history

    of his power source 7astle &reyskull.

    'ong years ago a cabal of ancient wiards and sorcerers of goodness e2isted who

    held the secrets of #terniaIs magical power power so great that it could undo reality

    and shape it in any way its possessor desiredO power so great it could make gods

    tremble. Naturally these #lders as they called themsel)es protected these secrets

    with their li)es " if e)il claimed them the uni)erse would be doomed.

    -ut an powerful e)il warlord named Kel)or learned of these #lders and gathered a

    horde of e)il warriors. They attacked them but they were no match for the #lders.

    They cursed the egotistical Keldor and banished him and his henchmen to the Dark

    Hemisphere a place on #ternia of great e)il where no sane creature dares go.

    >e)eral decades passed. The #lders predicted that e)il would returnO their mortal

    bodies were now too frail and decrepit to combat it. >o they de)ised a plan.

    They gathered in an ancient ruin that #ternians were fond of calling 7astle

    &reyskull due its skull"shaped front. 5hate)er purpose this castle was origially

    built for had been forgotten for centuries but it would now ha)e a new one. The

    #lders chanted and conBured for weeks speaking the words of one ultra"powerful

    spell. 5hen it was done all of #ternia shook and e)ery creature on the planet felt a

    breif twinge of pain.

    The #lders were no more. They had used the spell to meld bodies souls and

    spirits with the walls of &reyskull. They had lost their identities and indi)iduallity

    but now their )ital secrets were safe in a powerful monolith of stone. Their ne2t act

    was to *nd a caretaker for the 7astleO they found one in a mysterious woman who

    is now known only as The >orceress. The only thing left was to *nd a guardian " but

    that could wait.

    #)entually after a few decades more e)il did return. Keldor now calling himself

    >keletor escaped from the Dark Hemisphere along with his e)il minions. He

    launched an attack on the #ternian Royal Calace belie)ing that King Randor knew

    the location of the #lders.

    ,n the early stages of the battle a strange feeling started to come o)er RandorIssi2teen"year"old son 1dam #terniaIs 7rown Crince and heir to the throne as well as

    the kings general Duncan aka !an"at"1rms a man who unbeknownst to anyone

    knew more about &reyskull and the #lders than Bust about anyone. &uessing what

    the feeling probably was Duncan led th reluctant 1dam to the 7astle where the

    drawbridge swung open to great them.

    ,nside the two were confronted by the beautiful >orceress. >he told 1dam in no

    uncertain terms that the 7astle had chosen him as its protectorO he would become

    its guardian in order to protect the secrets that the #lders had worked so hard to

    keep.

    %nfortunately the teenager nai)e and skeptical as he was was unwilling to belie)e

    such a farfetched story. 5hy would the great and powerful #lders chose a clumsy

    si2teen"year"old kid to protect such )ital power. He scoed and left the building

    much to the >orceress and !an"at"1rmIs disappointment.

    Howe)er in the ensuing hours the battle between >keletorIs forces and RandorIs

    elite warriors (later called the !asters$ intensi*ed. 1dam soon saw that his friends

    were being trounced. ?inally when >keletor himself kidnapped his father 1dam saw

    that he had no choice and he ran back to &reyskull. %nseen by him his pet cat

    Kringer and RandorIs court magician rko saw him 3ee and out of curiosity

    followed him.

    5hen 1dam again met the >orceress little needed to be said. >he led him to the

    7astleIs inner sanctium and handed him the >word of &reyskull which then and

    there transformed him into He"!an for the *rst time. The >orceress then said he

    would need a companionO he then saw that Kringer and rko were watching. >o he

    turned the >wordIs power on his belo)ed pet transforming him into the powerful

    -attle 7at.

    ?inally the >orceress warned him that his dual identity must fore)er be a secret for

    if the forces of e)il should e)er learn it e)en accidentally the conseJuences would

    be dire.

    5ith He"!an Boining the battle the tide Juickly turned. Randor was rescued and

    >keletorIs forces were defeated.

    >ince then 1dam has adBusted to his role as Defender of &reyskull Juite nicely. To

    the other !asters (aside from !an"at"1rms and rko$ he is somewhat of a mystery

    but they are always glad for his help (that is a great irony6 he is the most powerful

    !aster but as he is not technically an employee or ally of Randor he is really Bust

    an unocial member of the group$. He really does not know why the 7astle chose

    himO not e)en !an"at"1rms who has studied the #lders and &reyskull e2stensi)ely

    and is the closest thing the >orceress has to a con*dant has any idea why. The

    >orceress may know why but she isnIt telling. ,t doesnIt matter. He"!an has pro)ed

    an eecti)e &uardian and likely will continue to be so for the immediate future.

    no problem talking eating breathing hearing seeing or smelling. His dress is

    Tactics6 >keletor always choses spells carefully. He usually has plenty of oensi)e

    spells but is also fond of illusions and spells that summon elementals demons and

    other monsters. He usually keeps a Teleport spell memoried for a Juick escape.

    1lthough he is ci)ilied enough not to resort to *ghting with his claws and teeth

    (most of the time >keletor has little sense of honor and he *ghts dirty. He does not

    had now lost their identities and indi)iduallity but their secrets and power were now

    enemies in an instant. ne of the 3aws in the shell+s design is lack of proper legs

    but many small wheels to cart them around. 1s such it is hard for them to tra)el up

    surfaces naturally. ?ortunately for them newer models of their armor ha)e the
