DESCRIPTION

On September 13, 2014, it appeared as if Hurricane Odile would miss Los Cabos and the popular resort town will experience only some wind and rain overnight. However, at the last minute the storm veered to the East and the night of September 14, Hurricane Odile strongly hit a largely unprepared Cabo San Lucas directly as a powerful Category 3 Hurricane, the strongest hurricane ever to make landfall in the Baja Peninsula of Mexico. Hurricane Odile struck with sustained winds of up to 125 mph, causing major damage to the city, the resorts, and the infrastructure of the entire state of Baja California Sur. This project aims to provide a sustainable alternative for the reconstruction of the social fabric and people's homes.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Hurricane Odile

!!!On September 13, 2014, it appeared as if Hurricane Odile would miss Los Cabos and the popular resort town will experience only some wind and rain overnight. However, at the last minute the storm veered to the East and the night of September 14, Hurricane Odile strongly hit a largely unprepared Cabo San Lucas directly as a powerful Category 3 Hurricane, the strongest hurricane ever to make landfall in the Baja Peninsula of Mexico.!Hurricane Odile struck with sustained winds of up to 125 mph, causing major damage to the city, the resorts, and the infrastructure of the entire state of Baja California Sur. An estimated 92% of the State's population was left without power or water, the biggest electrical disaster in the history of Mexico, according to the Mexican Electric Company (CFE). 30,000 tourists were in the Baja during the storm, but all returned home safely except those who (bless their hearts) opted to stay behind to help. Hurricane Odile was estimated to deliver nearly $1 Billion dollars (12 Billion Pesos) in economic losses.!CAPA Lab joins the efforts of Cabo Hurricane Fund to bring a new and sustainable start to those hard working families who are integral part of the social fabric of Los Cabos and that lost their homes (and almost everything) during Hurricane Odile. The prototype home that we envision is the amalgamation of our thinking and knowledge about sustainable development and living, it seeks to convey a sense of future growth, hope and social integration, which through this unfortunate event could emerge as a new forces among the people of Los Cabos.
