 This Springy little sundress is worked completely in the round.  There is no sewing anywhere.  Just knit circles for a few hours and let the wonders of the variegated yarn form swirls of color that change every few inches as the A‐shape of the skirt changes the stitch count.  The ruffled lacy border is simple but very girly.  Materials:  3(4,5) skeins of Cascade Luna Paint yarn.  Pictured sundress is color 9834.  Size 8 needles, 16 inch and 24 inch circular OR SIZE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.  Markers, 8 in one color and 1 in a contrasting color.  Gauge:  4 sts/inch in stockinette st.   Size:  The directions are for size 4(6, 8).  Where only 1 number is given it applies to all sizes.   Chest measurements are about 24(26, 28) inches.  Length from shoulder to bound off edge at hem is about 23(26,29) inches.  Feel free to customize length depending on your little girl’s height.  Glossary: PM:  Place marker using the 8 same‐color markers. SM:  Slip marker. RM:  Remove marker. YO:  Yarn over. M1:  Lift the horizontal bar between sts and knit into the back of this strand. TBL:  Through the back loop (to twist the st).  

Directions:  

Make Yoke:  Using 16 inch needles, cast on 60 sts.  Place single colored marker and join in the round being careful not to twist sts.  This marker indicates the center back of the dress. Set up round:  K7, PM, K1, PM, K14, PM, K1, PM, K14, PM, K1, PM, K14, PM, K1, PM, K7.  You should be back at the first marker.  Now make a square yoke as follows.  Round 1:  P to 1st marker, *YO, SM, P1, SM, YO, P to next marker, repeat from * until you have made YOs on either side of the 4 sts (raglans) between the markers, ending with P to end of round. Round 2:  K entire round BUT when you come to the YOs. Knit them TBL. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until there are 42(46,50) sts in each section.  End with a round 2.  Change to 24” needle when there are too many sts to be comfortable on the 16”.  

Complete yoke as follows:  K21(23,25), removing the 8 same colored markers, bind off from the 1st raglan st to the next raglan st, K42(46,50) and then bind off the next section from rag‐lan st to raglan st, K21(23,25).  The single color marker should still be in the middle of one edge.  Each edge has 42(46,50) sts.    Form body:  K21(23,25), PM, CO 5(6,7) sts using either the backward loop or cable cast on method, PM, K42(26,50), PM, cast on another 5(6,7) sts, PM and K21(23,25) sts to complete round.  You are now back in the round with a single marker in the middle of the back and 2 markers on either side of the underarm.  K7 rounds, on 8th round M1 before the 1st and 3rd markers and after the 2nd and 4th creating the A‐line shape. Repeat these 8 rows 10(11,12) times. The 5(6,7) sts between the 2 sets of markers remains constant.  After completing the indicated increases, stop and count the sts.  There must be a multiple of 8 for the bottom border.  If there isn’t a multiple of 8, knit 3 rounds and then insert the necessary number of additional increases in the usual spots to get the number that works.  Now measure garment from shoulder to sts on needle, the goal is 19(21, 23) inches.  If you are there or a little bit over, start border now.  If you are short, add up to 6 more rows and then if you are still short just make the border a little longer.    Border:  Round 1:  P2, *K4, P4, rep from * ending with P2. Round 2:  P2, *K2TBL, YO, K2TBL, P4, rep from * ending with P2. Round 3:  P2, *K5TBL, P4, rep from * ending with P2.  Repeat Round 3 until border is 4(5,6) inches or until dress is desired length.  Special Bind Off:  Working in pattern but knitting the knits the usual way not TBL, BO 3 sts, (the st on the right needle is the 2nd of the 5 knit sts) *pull the st on the needle out to about a 6 inch loop and pass ball of yarn through the loop, tighten st to tension of other sts, K1 (center st of the 5 knits), leave this st on the needle, now proceed to bind off in pattern the next 7 sts, rep from * to end of round ending with BO 3.  There will be 1 st on the needle in the middle of each 5‐stitch knit rib.  Now remove the needle and unravel the sts back to the YO on Round 2 of the border.  The unraveling will stop here because there are no more sts under the YOs to continue unraveling.    Weave in ends.
