Most children are diagnosed after age four, though autism can be reliably diagnosed as early as age
two. Early intervention can improve learning, communication, and social skills, as well as underlying
brain development.
With a highly successful advertising campaign for early ASD
detection already in place, Ad Council and Autism Speaks
stakeholders sought ways to encourage parent engagement –
fostering a community of knowledge around detection,
diagnosis, and support.
Exploring a new digital resource for parents of children
affected by autism, the Ad Council engaged Motivate to
help facilitate a series of Design Sprint workshops driving
towards an MVP solution for development.
Over the past few decades, efforts to build
greater awareness of autism have successfully
generated millions of dollars in funding. Through
working with the Ad Council, Autism Speaks saw
a new opportunity to encourage parents to seek
ASD testing earlier for their children.

EXPERIENCE STRATEGY
We conducted a week-long Reframe Design
Sprint Workshop with Ad Council and Autism
Speaks participants to discover, design, implement,
and reflect on a potential MVP solution with parents.
Functional Prototype Designs were tested
with parents to validate early concepts.
A full Reframe Workshop Solution Pitch
Deck was presented to the combined stakeholder
panel for next step development.
SOLUTION DESIGN
Post-workshop, we refined prototype designs and
prepared final files for handoff to development.
INSIGHTS GATHERING
We worked with internal Ad Council
stakeholders to understand, educate,
and advise on a go-forward best
practice approach for Design Thinking
and Hackathon programs.
We conducted pre-workshop
stakeholder interviews with internal
Autism Speaks team advocates and
parents of autistic children to understand
their journeys from diagnosis to treatment
and ongoing care.

Through ongoing partnerships, our
Reframe Workshops aided the Ad Council
in adopting Design Thinking and Design Sprint
methodologies for use in current and future
campaign work.
For Autism Speaks partners, we were
instrumental in creating an early go-to-
market solution aligning with
existing campaign goals to reinforce the
message of early diagnosis, greater access to
knowledge, and a caring community of support.
