Located in Renton, Washington, the Virginia Mason Seahawks Practice Center has success-fully replaced its previous metal halide high bay system for a NANA 600W LED solution. The previous system consisted of 203 fixtures of 875W Metal Halide lamps and have been replaced with 150 fixtures of 600W LED high bays. Through the reduction in wattage per fixture as well as number of fixtures needed, the energy usage has been reduced by 53% while the overall illumination levels have been improved by 122%. Smart control func-tions such as on/off switching and dimming have been included in the solution as well through the wirelessly communicating GeSS IPC system.

Needs of the athletes were the top concern, which were to eliminate the glare present from the old high bays as well as improving overall illumination level and uniformity. After successful installation of the NANA 600W LED lights, all of the concerns were addressed to create a more comfortable and optimal environment for better concentration during training. In particular, the considerable improvement in color rendering and doubling of brightness combine for a significant improvement to daylighting for the facility. The customers have commented on the widened sense of space inside the practice center and that the overall improvements have made for a more enjoyable experience to train in, especially in months such as November when the team has to train inside the facility about 80% of the time.

VMAC Virginia Mason Athletic Center

The Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC) is a privately funded sporting facility situated on 19 acres (77,000 m2) of industrial property along the shores of Lake Washington in Renton, Washington. It is the headquarters and practice faciliety for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. The team holds mini-camps and training camps here, and starting with the 2009 season has opened the training camp to the public.
