PINK BOOTS RECRUITMENT CAMPAIGN Melbourne Freight Terminal, Pacific National OVERVIEW: Throughout FY15, Asicano tasked its senior leadership team to increase female participation women across the operational workforce. Gender diversity targets had been confirmed and were measured on a monthly basis. In September 2015, Pacific National’s Melbourne Freight Terminal presented a requirement to Asciano Careers to hire 14 entry-level Terminal Operators. The Careers team embraced the opportunity to manage this recruitment campaign in an unconventional way by using a tailored sourcing plan to attract women into this male dominated industry. APPROACH: Asciano Careers’ Talent Acquisition team developed a tailored marketing campaign that included a strong reach using social media channels such as Facebook, Linkedin, and Twitter as well as local community outreach by hosting town hall events advertising in the local media. A custom built informational landing page was built to support the introduction of the “Pink Boots” campaign. A strong focus was placed on upskilling local hiring managers to consider candidates on agreed competencies, behaviors and values while continuing to acknowledge their unconscious biases throughout the assessment and selection processes. OUTCOME: Eighty candidates attended Assessment Centres Fourteen high potential team members were hired into both full and part time positions including eight women. The success of the Pink Boots marketing and recruitment campaign provided thought leadership within the Asciano Group. The success also helped address areas where Asciano could further support women employees by providing facilities in site based locations, such as restrooms as well as part time and flexible work opportunities.
