Back office transactions are a global process for any large investment bank. Over time individual locations created localized processes and software tools. The result was wide variability in how work was being performed and what systems were employed in the execution of this work.

We deployed a team of researchers globally to see exactly how work was being done. Even though the back office processes were reported to be the same 17 steps worldwide, Electronic Ink researchers found that 11 unauthorized software versions and processes were operating globally.

Electronic Ink uncovered a hidden risk. Data was floating around outside of the system in Excel and on desktops, rogue applications were being used, and employees were making decisions on data that they couldn’t confirm as accurate or current.

Electronic Ink designed a single application solution, eliminating 11 duplicative applications. It allowed locations to customize the user interface to accommodate their specific needs, while keeping everyone working in the same secure application with the most accurate information. The new design automatically and intelligently delivers the necessary information in the right format to the right person at the right time. It eliminated rogue application data, maintenance, and training; reduced databases and server storage; and ended the reliance on Excel. Electronic Ink’s design allowed the Investment Bank to serve more clients and increase their productivity with the same amount of staff while reducing expenditures on redundancies.
