From the Principals Desk Welcome Back

Welcome back everybody to another busy term. It is fantastic to see that most of our families have returned from the Winter break and it has been great to hear about the many adventures our students had during the holidays. We are very glad to see you all back safely at school and look forward to catching up with you albeit in a different and more distant format during the term. As you will no doubt be aware social distancing remains in place in NSW currently and many of the events that were scheduled to recommence have again been put on hold. Unfortunately, our Stage 3 camp to Berry has been cancelled for this year as have all inter school events including sport, public speaking and debating. However, we do plan on running some of these school events in school and will provide more details as they come to fruition. New Assistant Principals I would like to welcome Mrs Jenelle Catalogna and Mrs Leah Formosa who have stepped up and taken over Mrs Sutton’s role as Assistant Principal. Mrs Formosa will be the AP on Monday and Fridays and Mrs Catalogna on Tuesday – Thursday. I have no doubt they will continue to improve and enhance Castlereagh Public School over the next 6 months P & C A massive thank you to our P & C who worked tirelessly throughout the holidays to clean our school in preparation for upgrading the playground. Shelley, Briohny, Angelic, Ellen, Leanne and Jenelle what an amazing job your all did thanks from everyone at CPS. Our next P & C meeting will be next Tuesday at 9.00 am on Zoom. Please let Ellen know if you would like to join the meeting by sending your email details. Parent Teacher Phone Interviews By now everyone should have received a code from the school to log in online and book a phone interview with your teacher. Some parents have already had meetings with their students teacher to create Individual Learning plans and you do not need to rebook. If you have any difficulties logging in please call the office and we can arrange a time for you.

SRC Fundraiser On the last day of Term 2 the school SRC ran a popcorn and movie Pyjama day. I would like to congratulate the entire school for supporting this event and the SRC for their contribution to our school. Thank you Mrs McFadden for your organization of this event. Sports in Schools Australia Monday’s sports activities have recommenced. This semester the focus is on Major Sports (basketball, soccer etc.) and Dance. We ask that students wear appropriate running shoes on Mondays. I wish you all a very happy and safe fortnight ahead. School Lunches School lunches are available to order online. Please go to www.myschoollunchbox.com.au and follow instructions on how to order.

Crunch and Sip Castlereagh Public School is a certified ‘Crunch and Sip’ school. All classes have a ‘Crunch and Sip’ break during the day where children are encouraged to eat fruit and sip water. A tally of the fruit eaten is kept as it is one of the activities the children can complete to obtain their Healthy Lifestyle Challenge, Healthy Badge.

Waste Free Wednesdays Every Wednesday is a waste free day at CPS. This means whatever food and drink wrappings/scraps that the children have that day must be taken home with their lunches, a class tally is kept of the number of children having ‘nude foods’! These are foods that have no wrapping but come in a reusable container. Thank you for your continued support for these two programs.

Ice Blocks Ice blocks will be sold Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at lunch time. They range from 50c to $2 in price.

School Banking is starting back! School Banking is back. School Banking Day will be Tuesday, School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for students to learn about money and develop good savings habits. For each weekly deposit made at school, students will receive a silver Dollarmites token. Once they collect 10 tokens, they can redeem them for a School Banking reward. If your child has previously participated in School Banking, or has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account, they can start banking straight away by bringing their Dollarmites deposit wallet to school on School Banking day. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2020 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

Welcome back to Term 3 students, teachers and parents! Over the school holidays I would like to say a very big thank you to our 2 Vice Presidents who worked endlessly over 3 days and late into the night giving the school a deep clean with the pressure washer to tidy the outside of the school up. Ladies you did an amazing job and it has come up great looking fresh and clean! Last year we applied for a government grant for an outdoor BBQ area which was approved last term! With limited funds we would like to also utilise this area for the children as another outdoor area to enjoy or outdoor learning space. With a lot of families that attend the school being business owners we would like to initiate a NAME YOUR TRADE as a business owner or as a parent willing to help at a working bee to help out our children and the local community. PBL POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING

As a PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) school we have consistently worked towards positive outcomes for all members of the Castlereagh Public School learning community. During the year we will maintain and reinforce our PBL school rules of being SAFE, RESPECTFUL, LEARNERS. These rules are taught explicitly from kindergarten to year six.

Parenting on line payments (POP) It is now possible to make online payments to the school for the amounts owing for the students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone.
