11 middotThe Durham Trail Co-ordinating Committee (DTC~) Terms of Reference (ToR) requires the submission of an annual report to Planning amp Economic Development Committee summarizing the activities of the previous year DTCC is also required to prepare a Workplan for the coming year for consideration and approval of Planning amp Economic Development Committee and Council

21 The DTCC is comprised of sixteen members including one Council representative and one citizen volunteer from each area municipality Membership at the end of 2012 was as follows

Major Activities

23 The primary role of the DTCC is to monitor and implement the Regional Trail Network (RTN) In 2012 the DTCC convened 4 meetings and fulfilled this role by

i) Expanding its knowledge by receiving presentations and engaging in discussions onmiddot

bull Trail developments in the City of Oshawa including plans for expansion of its current network of trails

bull Opportunities to promote Durhams trails

bull The Toronto and Region Conservation Area Greenwood Conservation Lands Master Plan including the trail planning process for this area

bull The Beaver River Trail and trail management in the Durham Regional Forest by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation

Authority and

bull Opportunities to partner with Durham Tourism on various trail

related activities including the promotion of an enhanced trail website (wwwdurhamtrailsca)

ii) Updating the Regional Trail Network (RTN) map in consultation with the area municipalities

iii) Partnering with Durham Tourism to develop a plan to promote middot

Durhams trails with actions including a Durham Trails media event and the production of a short video

ii) Outreach Education and Advocacy- Activities that promote the awareness and use of the RTN as a tourism benefit and to appreciate the natural features of Durhams trails

iii) Monitoring Trail Implementation -Activities include updating the Regional Trail Network (RTN) based on the most recent trails data

iv) Marketing and Communication - Implementation of the Trail Promotion Plan in partnership with Durham Tourism

41 The DTCC accomplished much in 2012 Committee members should be commended for the time and energy they have invested in Committee activi~ies In 2012 Sandra McEieney acted as the Planning and Economic Development Department staff liaison and will continue this role in the coming year

bull Co-ordinate and facilitate inter-municipal trail development and planning that implement the Regional Trail Network (RTN)

o Receive presentations from other trail groups and a variety of other external stakeholders with the objective of advocating-implementation of

o Assist in the co-ordination of inter-municipal efforts resolving trail development obstacles and identifying priority linkages
