Rally Report Rally Report -- “Commotion on the Ocean” “Commotion on the Ocean” By Dianne WolfeBy Dianne Wolfe
Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort in Newport, Oregon was the site of the most recent CAT RV Club Rally.
Co-Rally masters Tom & Victoria Schneider and George & Starr Saam put together a truly first-class event.
September 2007, ISSUE 8
Jeff Headean and Tony Kapustka, Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL flew in for the rally. Tony presented the Caterpillar Maintenance
Seminar and Brett Wolfe presented the General RV Maintenance Seminar. Representatives from Halton Caterpillar, the CAT®
RV Service Center in Portland, were on-site to provide technical assistance and parts sales. Tom Schneider brought in coaches
to showcase some of the latest Caterpillar® technology available in motorhomes including Caterpillar transmissions.
It wouldn’t be a CAT RV Club Rally without the friendly competition in the beanbag toss and beanbag baseball. The winners
of both are pictured above. Al Vormittag was very busy as he organized the games along with the SCA testing.
Fran Zaft taught us how to make lanyards from pop tops and Victoria Schneider conducted a very popular wellness seminar.
From finding fossils to polka dots to magicians to an evening at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, everyone had a wonderful time.

The FMCA Governing Board Meeting in Redmond, OR was an all-day affair with some unusual items of business. A new slate of officers was elected and the 2008 budget was approved. The following were elected to the FMCA Executive Board: President—Connie Pool Sr. Vice President—Nelson K. Stubbs Secretary—Joanne Durbin Treasurer—Doug Key
Long discussions ensued on whether or not to have commemorative pins for Convention attendees in 2008, and whether or not to have a volunteer meal. Both items were reinstated for 2008. We will have pins presented to attendees at next year’s con-vention and convention volunteers will have a meal served by the national officers as in the past.
It was announced that current active FMCA membership is approximately 118,000.
Future convention dates and tentative locations were announced.

Several winners also gave some of their
winnings back to Ms Wisner.

has been charitable in the past and our
charitable giving continued during the
“Commotion at the Ocean” rally in
Newport, OR. A 50-50 ticket sales and
drawing brought in $1210. Fifty per-
cent of the money collected by ticket
sales ($605) was returned to four win-
ners and the club matched the balance
($605) with a like amount to make a
total donation of $1210 to “My Sisters’

“My Sisters’ Place” is a domestic vio-

hand to accept the club’s donation. Dur-

CAT RV Club President, Brett Wolfe, was
a good sport at the entertainment on Thurs-
day, August 16, when FMCA featured per-
former, Tony Orlando asked him to come
on stage and join him in song and dance.
As National Senior Vice President, Nelson
Stubbs, pointed out later, “...probably half
of the people in the room know Brett.”
As for Brett’s reaction? After returning to
his seat, he turned to wife, Dianne, and
said, “...that’s the last time you’ll get me to
sit on the front row!”
I’m sure it was a lot more fun for observers
than it was for Brett, but I for one must
admit I truly enjoyed the show!

nineteen door prizes. She also announced her commitment to the RV lifestyle by pur-chasing a motor home. Suzie then presented CAT wristwatches to Newport Rally masters George and Starr Saam and Tom and Victo-ria Schneider. At 6:00 p.m. Brett called for a motion to adjourn so we could attack the pizza and beverages provided by Caterpillar and the Club. David Twilley so moved and the “ayes” were unanimous.
President Brett Wolfe called the meeting to order at 5:10 p.m. Margie Davis led us in prayer. Don Tallman led the club in the “Pledge of Allegiance.” Brett introduced the officers on the stage with special men-tion that former VP David Twilley had re-signed to take on National Directorship of another club. Other officers present were Kathe Letulle, Treasurer; Vickie Shamory, Membership Chairman; Don Tallman, Na-tional Director; Al Vormittag, Alternate National Director; Joe Hipp, Acting Secre-tary and co-editor of the CAT RV Club newsletter; Starr Saam, Parliamentarian; and the nominating committee chaired by Rich Shamory with members Lamar Keck and George Saam. Also recognized was Dianne Wolfe, President’s wife, rally coordinator, and co-editor of the newsletter.
Several FMCA National officers were pre-sent and recognized, Don Moore, FMCA President; Jay Blumenthal, International Area Vice-President; Ken Hawk, Freight-liner Club President; and later Nelson Stubbs, newly-elected Senior Vice-President of FMCA.
Caterpillar employees were introduced: Suzie Adcock, Tony Kaputska, and Jeff Headean.
Brett called for a show of hands from those present at the Newport Rally and again rec-ognized those from Caterpillar who assisted during the rally.
From there he moved on to reports and asked if there were any additions or correc-tions to the minutes of the Perry business meeting which had been posted in the meet-ing room and published in the Spring news-letter. There being none, Bill Mitts moved that the minutes be approved and his motion was seconded. The minutes were approved unanimously.
Treasurer Kathe Letulle presented the Treas-urers Report audited by three independent auditors as of and including 8/13/2007, and no discrepancies were found. The Newport Rally had a $41.66 loss. The treasurers re-port was posted in the meeting room and Brett called for a motion to accept. Bill Mitts, again, moved for approval and his
motion was seconded. The report was ap-proved unanimously. Old Business: There was none. ew Business: Brett reported that the next Rally at Hemet, CA, February 11-15, 2008, will cost $275 and there will be a limit of 80 coaches. He added that those wishing to register now can do so, a departure from previous registration procedures. Rally Masters are Jim and Marcy Mannan, and David and Marianne Conner. The following rally will be June 28-July 2 at Henry, IL, prior to the FMCA convention in St. Paul, MN.
Brett announced that 103 Caterpillar® deal-ers have made the commitment to become CAT® RV Centers. Level three dealers have made commitments to have hookups and dump station, as well as servicing en-gine, generator and house systems. He urged our support of the dealers who are supporting us to the tune of over $17,000 this year.
The election of officers was conducted by nominating committee members: Rich Shamory, George Saam, and Lamar Keck. Nominees were presented and nominations from the floor were called for. There being none, each candidate was voted on and unanimously approved by the membership.
President – Brett Wolfe Vice President – Danny Quarisa Secretary – Joe Hipp Treasurer – Kathy Letulle Membership Chairman – Vicky Shamory National Director – Don Tallman Alt. National Director – Al Vormittag Jr. Nominating Committee – Chair Rich Shamory, members George Saam and Lamar Keck.
Don Tallman then reported on the FMCA Governing Board meeting. The all day meeting resulted in a new slate of national officers and reduced budget for 2008. FMCA active membership is about 118,000. He announced the future conventions, all of which will appear in your FMCA magazine.

1. Be on reasonably level ground. Block wheels so the coach can not move even with the parking brake off.
2. Start engine and run until full air pressure is reached. Lis-ten for the dryer to purge (about 120 PSI).
3. Shut off the engine.
4. Release the parking brake by pushing in the yellow button (make sure you don't roll and do NOT apply the brake pedal).
5. After the initial pressure drop, the system should not loose more than 2 PSI per minute.
6. Apply the brake pedal firmly (still with the parking brake OFF).
7. After the initial pressure drop, the system should not loose any more than 3 PSI per minute.
8. With the engine off and parking brake off, rapidly pump the brake pedal to bleed down the air supply. During this stage you should watch for the warning light and buzzer at about 60 PSI and then the yellow button (parking brake) should pop out at about 30 PSI.
9. Restart the engine and build up air pressure again. While building up pressure, check how long it takes for pressure to go from 85 to 100 PSI at “cruising RPM”. It should be less than 45 seconds.
