Welcome to the 19th Annual Lassle Ranch Simmentals Production Sale. We feel this is one of the strongest set of

bulls we have ever offered. Of the 112 bulls that are cataloged, 81% of them are sired by some of the most popular

and time tested A.I. bulls in the industry. 19 of them are products of our embryo transfer program. In addition, we

have once again decided to open up our heifer pen and give you the opportunity to purchase your pick of the 2011 heifer crop.

Many of these heifers are full siblings to the bulls being offered and are future bull mommas in our herd!

Two thousand eleven was an exciting year for us both professionally and personally. We are so blessed that we not only get to dowhat we love, but work with our family each day. In August, Sarah, Ryan, and Grace relocated to Billings; and in November theywelcomed a new addition to their family, Harper Elizabeth. It has been great having them so close. They are enjoying being moreinvolved in the ranch and Clay says he just might even get caught up on work with the extra help he has now. Stephanie continuesto teach in Hysham, but during the summer she becomes Clay’s “hired hand” and chief A.I. technician. Travis is teaching in Albin,WY. He still tries to get home to help out whenever possible, and will also be home to help with AIing this spring. Our family willbe growing by one more again next summer as Travis will be marrying a great girl by the name of Alix Hogan.

As always, the bulls have all been tested for BVD-PI and are certified negative. Any bull that has parentage that indicates he has achance of being a carrier for any known genetic defect at the time of sale will be tested and guaranteed genetic defect free. We will offer Free Delivery within a 300 mile radius of Glendive, MT. Other delivery arrangementswill be made as economically as possible, based upon the volume of the purchase.

$100.00 off cattle that are taken sale day. Free feed on any bull over $1,750, until the first of April. On thebulls that we winter, we will have them fertility tested and fertility certificates issued. Insurance will beavailable sale day – we encourage you to insure bulls that we winter.

Retained Semen InterestThe bull buyer will receive full possession, 100% salvage value, and 2/3 interest of any bull purchased inthis sale while Lassle Ranch will retain 1/3 semen interest in these bulls. This semen interest is a royalty in-terest that entitles LRS to 1/3 of the revenues of any semen sold. LRS retained semen interest remainseven if the bull or any interest in the bull is sold to a third party. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensurethat LRS’s interest is upheld if semen is ever sold. The buyer must also inform any third party of LRS’s in-terest if the bull is ever sold. Lassles will not be responsible for expense related to semen collection orpromotion of any bull purchased, unless a mutual agreement is reached for these expenses prior to semencollection. LRS’s retained semen interest also includes the right to collect semen on the bull at our ex-pense and the buyer’s convenience.

Terms and Conditions:1. Terms of the sale are cash or check at the time of sale unless other arrangements are made prior to thesale.2. All bulls are guaranteed breeders. Purchaser shall let seller know within 10 months of purchase date ifbull is unsatisfactory. Bulls will be returned to ranch at buyer’s expense. Seller has the right to semencheck the bull if found unsatisfactory. Seller will replace the bull with a bull of equal value agreed on byboth parties or return purchase price. In no instance shall seller be responsible for more than the pur-chase price.3. Each animal becomes the property of and therefore is also the risk of the purchaser as soon as it issold: except it shall be the obligation of the seller to see that animals are fed and cared for free of chargeto purchaser, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of twenty-four (24) hours after the sale,whichever occurs first. We guarantee the cattle to be healthy sale day.4. We will abide by the rules set forth by the American Simmental Association.5. As we have no control over the acts of God, we can not guarantee these cattle against death loss, injuryor sickness. We guarantee cattle to be healthy sale day.

Testicle measurements:The scrotal circumference of each bull was tape-measured on December 18, 2011. The scrotal measure-ments were adjusted to yearling, and sometimes will vary one way or another as actual yearlings. We guaran-tee our bulls 100% for fertility – Unless damage is induced at your ranch – and then it’s out of our control.

Suggested Guidelines for using Yearling Bulls:We are firm believers in the use of yearling bulls and feel it is one of the best years of their lives. It is atime when they are easy to manage and their only concern is breeding cows. We have found that yearlingbulls that are managed carefully during the second year of their lives, not only do well, but they will per-form better, over time. Below are some suggested guidelines for the care of yearling bulls.•Upon delivery to your ranch, keep yearling bulls separate from older bulls and feed them a maintenanceration of 5-8 lbs per head of grain and free choice hay. Reduce the amount of grain fed gradually, so thatbulls are on straight hay or grass 2-4 weeks prior to the breeding season.•Where possible, try to limit the bulls to 45-60 days of pasture service the first year. At this time or assoon as possible remove the bulls and put them in separate pastures with plenty of good quality grass. Itis best to achieve the growth and strength to compete with older bulls for feed and space.•You will see the benefit of a little added cost and care of feeding a yearling bull by probably two orthree more years of service from a well managed and healthy bull.

Bull Buyer’s Guide to American Simmental Association’s EPDs and $ IndexesEPDs are based upon a deviation from the breed average (above or below) for the base year for the particular trait. You cannotcompare EPDs from one breed to another. EPDs may change from the time this catalog is printed until registration papers aretransferred.

Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’swhere $ indexes come in – blending EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on our bottom line.All-Purpose Index API: Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of theirdaughters required to maintain herd size retained & the remaining heifers & steers put on feed & sold grade and yield.Terminal Index IT: Evaluates sires for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring on feed and sold grade & yield.Using API and TI: First determine which index to use, if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit differ-ence between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed). The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worthcompared to another. Or put another way how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose type sire, youcan quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6000 over a 50+ bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 difference x 30Head x 4 year=$6000).

Once again we are excited to offer “Lot 1” – the pick of the entire 2011 heifer crop at Lassle Ranch Simmentals. We wish PerryMcKinley and Shane Temple (T Heart Ranch) the best of luck with their pick from last year.

In the heifer pen this year there are 75 Simmental and SimAngus heifers that you will be able to choose from. We are proud ofthe fact that 71 of them are AI sired by some of the best bulls in the industry and 21 of them are a direct result of our embryotransfer program. These heifers represent the future of the Lassle Ranch herd and the heifer mates to what we consider ourbest and most consistent group of bulls we have every brought to town. We are extremely proud of the genetics we have intro-

duced to the breed over the last 19 years and our genetics are in almost every AI stud in North America, however we take much greater satisfactionin the fact that cows carrying the LRS prefix continue to produce bulls that work for the commercial cattleman year after year which has madethe LRS prefix one of the most respected in the breed.

The females at the Lassle Ranch must earn their keep. A Lassle Ranch female must breed back early every year and stay on schedule, have a fa-vorable disposition, and bring in a heavy calf or they go to town. We do not have a female production sale and rarely let a female leave the re-placement pen. These females are the backbone and future stars of our program – every female we have ever flushed has carried the LRS prefixfor many generations on the maternal side.

We have pictured a sampling of the females for this catalog and for our website, but the future will be yours on February 9th and the gates willbe open for you to make your pick with nothing held back. We have never offered one of our proven donors for sale before. We believe LRS Miss Keepsake 447P has earned that right. Her sons have been well received in pastsales, and we have 23 daughters in our herd as well as many granddaughters. There are 9 sons and 4 grandsons selling in our sale offering that are sired by LRS TimeZone, RC Club King and SAV Bismarck. Keepsake flushes really well and is easy to get along with. We have flushed her 5 times and have gotten 68 good eggs with anaverage of 12 eggs per flush. About ½ of these eggs were put in fresh and the rest were frozen, resulting in 46 live calves for a pregnancy rate of 67%. LRS Keepsake is amoderate framed, easy keeping daughter of ES Kilowatt and out of a solid black TNT Tremor daughter. Her grand dam was one of our very best Black Mick daughters. Sheis a complete outcross to Nichols Legacy and all his sons and grandsons. LRS Ms Keepsake is homozygous polled and heterozygous black with a very nice udder. She isvery sound on her feet and legs, she sells open and ready to flush. Sons of LRS Ms Keepsake selling are lots 3,4,5,10,11, 55, 56, 57, 58: Grandsons lots 24,59, 60 & 62.

We are starting our bull offering this year with 3 full brothers sired by LRS TimeZone andout of our Keepsake donor. They are all thick made and wide based with a big wide top andlevel hip all in a moderate attractive package. I’m not sure which one is the best, lot 3 isthe most powerful at this time but they are all sound, easy moving bulls that should workon a lot of different cows. All three are homozygous polled and black and very easy to bearound. This is one of the most consistent flushes that we have had out of a great cow.

With the demand for SimAngus heifers we are going to try something new at our sale. The Griffin Ranch has agreed to offer a select offering oftheir outstanding heifer calves. There will be a group of about 100 heifers selected from over 400 head. These are truly ranch raised heifers.They are high volume moderate framed females that will weigh approximately 720lbs by sale day. 245 head of steers that are the mates to theseheifers were shipped on December 28th with a pay weight of 866 lbs after being fed in their lot for approximately 65 days.

The Griffin family pride themselves on cattle that will thrive on range conditions, but they will also respond to feed and perform in the feedlot.There will be some select heifers that will sell in small groups and also about 15 solid red heifers.
