For us, wine is a connector—wine connects people to the earth, both as they work the vines and appreciate the bounty of the earth, and wine connects people to each other as they share time around the dinner table.

With the development of each of our brands, the com-mon factor is just that: connections. That is what in-spires our passion and our journey. At every turn, our path has been directed by the friendships we’ve made and the places we have learned to love. As these rela-tionships and places have taken us around the world, we’ve uncovered rare treasures that have increased both our determination and our excitement about produc-ing spectacular wines. Each new label is an expression

of those people and places we’ve embraced on this jour-ney.

This book includes most of our current offerings, with wines at a range of price points, from a host of origins, and in many different varietals and blends to suit a va-riety of audiences and situations. Because we continue to seek out the very best in the industry, this portfolio will only continue to grow. We have several in the works that we hope to share with you very soon, so be on the lookout for our next fantastic find!

Cheers,

Widely recognized as one of South Africa’s most iconic producers, the Mulderbosch estate is well known for crisp Sauvignon Blanc, complex Chenin Blanc and delicious Rosé. The winery is located due east of Cape Town in the Stellenbosch Hills. Fruit is sourced from vineyards throughout the Western cape winegrowing region.

The eastern cape has a Mediterranean climate that is largely impacted by the confluence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, delivering long, warm days during the growing season and gentle cooling breezes in the afternoons. The soils and microclimates are incredibly diverse throughout the area, ranging from sand with decomposed granite to dark alluvial soils with clay loam. The combination of this diverse terroir and old bush vine plantings results in wines of vibrancy, complexity and typicity.

Mulderbsoch has entered an exciting new era of quality and pursuit of perfection. A newly assembled team prom-ises to introduce a new generation of wine lovers to the many charms of this approachable collection of outstand-ing wines. Winemaker Adam Mason, a white wine specialist from the venerable Klein Constantia estate, will be

16

Sandhi, an ancient Sanskrit word meaning alliance or collaboration, reflects the partnership of its creators. Rajat Parr, Charles Banks and Sashi Moorman founded Sandhi to focus on producing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from unique vineyard sites throughout the Sta. Rita Hills appellation in Santa Barbara County. The wines represent a collaboration between man, earth, climate and vineyard.

The individual vineyards from which these grapes originate - some legendary and some new discoveries - have been exhaustively vetted for character, personality and balance. Sandhi is dedicated to making expressive wines of finesse, minerality, acidity, structure and balance. We believe wine achieves power and balance through the seamless integration of these qualities. This is the inspiration for Sandhi.

22

WINEMAKING We go to great lengths to protect the vibrancy, freshness and energy that makes wines from the Sta. Rita Hills so unique. All wines are wild-yeast fermented. We prefer neutral barrel and concrete vessels but do employ a small amount of new French oak. All Chardonnays go through malolactic fermentation but the lees are not stirred nor re-suspended. Most Pinot Noirs are whole-cluster fermented because we feel this approach creates wines that smell beautifully, have great cola spice, and offer more complex textures. All wines are unrefined and unfiltered with zero additions of water, sugar, acid or enzymes.

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY Chardonnay

REGION Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County

CLIMATE Maritime, with cold winds and fog and strong diurnal temperature variations.

SOIL Well drained Diatomaceous earth and clay-loam.

ASPECT Vineyards planted predominantly on north-facing hillsides which receive less sun exposure.

The fruit for this bottling comes from vineyards that have an average age of over twenty-five years and are largely from the old Wente selection. The wine is pale gold in the glass with a toasty nose and citrus hints of lime peel. The palate is vibrant with good structure showing plenty of restraint, balance and salinity. The wine’s expressive aromatics and generous texture are balanced by a lively acidity and great uplift in the finish. This is a great introduction to the nuanced style of our wines.

24

SANTA RITA HILLS Rita’s Crown Chardonnay

REGION Sta. Rita Hills, Western Santa Barbara County, South Central Coast

SOIL Planted at 500 – 1000 feet,Rita’s Crown is planted ondiatomaceous earth (fossilized plankton from the ocean floor) and clay-loam soils creating very challenging growing conditions.

This is our first bottling from this promising site that is planted at the highest elevation in the region, hence the “Crown of Santa Rita”. Planted at 500 to 1000 feet, Rita’s Crown is planted on diatomaceous soils, which are fossilized seashells and hallmarks of the appellation.

CLIMATE Largely impacted by its closeproximity to the ocean. Themountains run east-west into the Pacific allowing for very cold ocean winds blowing daily at 25 knots, foggy mornings and sunny days. This region has the longest and coldest growing season in California.

ASPECTSouth-facing. The highest elevation vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills (hence the Crown of Sta. Rita) leaving it very exposed to both wind and sun.

25

SANTA MARIA VALLEY Bien Nacido Chardonnay

REGION Santa María Valley, Northern Santa Barbara County, South Central Coast

CLIMATE Foggy mornings, sunnydays with ocean breezes and cool nights. The valley’smountains run east-west, allowing for the oceaninfluence to mitigate andcontrol the temperature.

SOIL Alluvial soils of sand and clay-loam

ASPECT Block W, which is the original 1973 planting. On a gentle southwest facing slope.

We feel privileged to have access to this excellent and historic site in the Santa Maria Valley. Our section, Block W, was planted in 1971 to the Wente selection on alluvial soil, loam and river silt and is one of the oldest vineyards in Santa Barbara County. The vineyard is owned and farmed by the Miller Family. Bien Nacido, which means “good birth” in Spanish, provides very circular wines with pretty citrus and herbal notes.

26

27

SANTA MARIA VALLEY Bien Nacido Pinot Noir

REGION Santa María Valley, Northern Santa Barbara County, South Central Coast

CLIMATE Foggy mornings, sunnydays with ocean breezes and cool nights. The valley’smountains run east-west, allowing for the oceaninfluence to mitigate andcontrol the temperature.

SOIL Alluvial soils of sand and clay-loam

ASPECT The Pinot Noir is from Block 1 which was planted in the early 1990’s.

Easily one of the most famous vineyards in Santa Barbara County, Bien Nacido has long supplied fruit to some of the best producers in the state. Our section is from Block 1 and was planted in early 1990’s to Mount Eden selection and Pommard on alluvial soil, loam and river silt. For us this site produces very rounded, complex wines with broad cola and tobacco aromas. The wines are always complex, rustic and flavorful reminding us of dark cherries and briar.

28

SANTA RITA HILLS Pinot Noir

REGION Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara County

CLIMATE Maritime, with cold winds and fog and strong diurnal temperature variations.

SOIL Well drained Diatomaceous earth and clay-loam.

ASPECT Vineyards planted predominantly on north- facing hillsides which receive less sun exposure.

This wine showcases all the exuberance of Sta. Rita Hills and is a blend of our vineyard holdings in the area. Half of the fruit comes from the 40 year-old vines at the Sanford & Benedict vineyard with the rest from our sections and younger vines at Rita’s Crown and Bent Rock. It has bright, shiny, crunchy black raspberry fruit with great aromatic lift of fruit, flowers and cola spice. The wine is delicious now and will age gracefully for another 5-7 years.

Storytelling has long been a part of life and the culture of South Africa. Fable aspires to tell its own story through the three wines produced at this magical farm.

Located on the awe-inspiring, rugged slopes of the Witzenberg Mountains in the Western Cape of South Africa, Fable focuses on producing pure expressions of old bush vine Chenin Blanc and red Rhone varieties. The 15 hectares of estate vineyards are planted in soils of ancient rock, shale and schist at an elevation ranging from 500 to 600 meters. The vineyards are tucked at the base of the soaring Witzenberg Mountain range, providing a unique and challenging growing environment. On the fringes of the frontier and facing challenging weather conditions, extreme wildlife and natural dangers, the vineyard is peacefully and biodynamically farmed. Fable strives to be one with the environment, thriving off of a diversified agricultural system that includes livestock.

Winemaker Rebecca Tanner and partner and viticulturalist Paul Nicholls live on the farm with their children and dogs. They are relentless in their pursuit of perfection from this untamed vineyard site, braving leopards, baboons, poisonous snakes, fires and isolation to bring you these wines.

FABLE Background

WINEMAKING The production philosophy is one of restraint in the cellar so as to showcase the uniqueness of the terroir. All wines are fermented with natural, wild yeasts in French oak casks, concrete eggs or stainless steel tanks. The red wines are fermented as whole clusters lending more aromatics and texture to the wines.

33

REGION From the Western Capeof South Africa two hoursnorthwest of Stellenbosch inthe Witzenberg Mountains on the rugged fringes of South African wine country.

CLIMATE Dynamic weatherconditions. Warm days, coolnights with high winds dueto the mountain elevation.

Founded by Annie Favia and Andy Erickson in 2004, Leviathan’s goal is to produce the best California red wine in a given vintage drawing on vineyard sources across the state, forming a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot.

Tapping into their collective 35 years of industry experience in both the field and cellar, and with stints at some of Napa Valley’s most heralded properties, this couple crafts Leviathan from the best of what California has to offer every year.

WINEMAKING Blending is one of the most enjoyable and most creative parts of the winemaking process,” says Andy. “Every year we are offered fruit from amazing vineyard sites, each one delivering interesting blending com-ponents from different varieties.

Fitting these together like a puzzle creates Leviathan. It allows us to push the envelope, try new things, and have an outlet to give people something unique and, frankly, pretty damn delicious. What I love about Leviathan is that, if you look closely, you can pull out the nuances of the individual varieties. But the wine also has a character all its own.”

LEVIATHAN Background

40

LEVIATHAN Background

With all of the other projects I work on, the focus is always on producing single vineyard, site-specific wines. With Leviathan I have complete latitude to create something unique from many different parts. It is like a brain teaser, and is very fun and exciting. California is rich and diverse in terms of grape-growing regions, and I love working to create something that reflects the best that California has to offer.”

Leviathan is a rich, full wine with vibrant texture. Its complex flavors are derived from a unique blend and is care-fully fine-tuned to create a bold, complex, enticing wine. Though this blended wine is worthy of cellaring, it can be consumed in its youth, showcasing its bright, fruit-driven character and is an incredible value relative to its peers.

41

TASTING NOTE Ever the brave oceanic beast, our 2009 Leviathan has been lurking in the tumultuous waters of Sirenum scopuli. Aromas of parchment coffee berries, cracked peppercorn and shiso leaves exude from the glass. Succulent red currants, cassis and dark cherries lure one in, and deliver a smooth, decadent finish with hints of raw cacao, cigar box, pavement and bramble crostata. This new creation has found true varietal balance, encompassing all of our favorite oenological aspects: ruby-cyan hues, mouthwatering acidity, ample but rounded tannins, and a truly insatiable nature. Blend: 28% Syrah, 26% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc.

In the 80’s, The J. Peterman catalog was much more than a catalog. It was a source of inspiration. It allowed one to armchair travel, just by reading the stories of each of the products and where they came from. The catalog was such a cultural fixture that the brand even made guest appearances on the Seinfeld as Elaine’s place of work. It was this globe-trotting, treasure-hunting model that was one of the inspirations for Cultivate. We deploy our winemaking team across the globe in search of great juice to blend and bring back home to share with you, each time with a unique story and personality. As lovers of all styles and types of wines, this model gives us flexibility to create a broad assortment of wines all under the Cultivate label.

But bringing wines from around the world was only one of the inspirations for Cultivate. As you can see from this catalog, we were already involved in many interesting adventures in the wine world.

CULTIVATE WINES Story

There was something else that pushed us to start Cultivate-- we had been bitten by the “connected capitalism” bug, and we wanted to find a way to use our specialty - wine - to make a difference in the world.

President Bill Clinton, Nobel peace prize winner Muhammed Yunus, former CEO of Coca Cola, Neville Isdell, and many other thought leaders are outspoken in their belief that for-profit companies with a socially responsible mission have incredible potential to change the world, and we aim to prove them right.

We created an innovative program, The GIVE, as a fundamental tenet of our business. The GIVE is our model of donating the first ten cents of every dollar that we make to non-profits supporting education and basic human needs. The revolutionary twist is that we do not direct the funds -- instead, non-profits submit their cause and we allow

46

CULTIVATE WINES Story

customers to vote on our website. Our goal is to allow customers to express their values through their purchases, which means they need a voice in determining where the money goes.

President Ronald Reagan, the great communicator, once said, “All great change in America starts at the dinner table.” We agree. The wines in the Cultivate portfolio are meant to be opened and enjoyed around the table with friends and family on days both ordinary and extraordinary.

As you can imagine, our J. Peterman approach, combined with The GIVE, is a constant generator of amazing stories about people, wine, cultures, food, design, purpose, philanthropy, and change. All those stories need to be shared. That is what inspired us to make a website that would encourage sharing and collaborative content. We invite you

to visit the site and see for yourself how wine truly is a link to enhancing and cultivating life. The stories of our wines are there but that is just the beginning. The content is ever-changing. Open a bottle, visit the site, and start dreaming.

DOUBLE BLIND Pinot Grigio

REGION Veneto (VEN-uh-toe) in thenortheast of Italy. Borderedby the Alps to the north andthe Adriatic Sea to the east. The capital of this regionis the canal-crossed city ofVenice. It is Italy’s largestwine producing region.

CLIMATE A large area with variableclimate depending onproximity to the mountains or the coast.

SOIL Almost exclusively volcanic.

NOTES Double Blind began as a quest to make more than just a Pinot Grigio. We looked into indigenous grapes like Garganega from the region of Soave. We considered a white blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Friulano and others. But when it came down to it, the Pinot Grigio we tasted was, on its own, expressive, balanced and totally food-friendly. It was structured and driven by a bright acidity and crisp texture. Sometimes less is more!

Double Blind Pinot Grigio carries the classic aromas of white flowers, marzipan and meyerlemon. The zip and zing on the palate provide a lively and refreshing pairing with all mannerof seafood. The finish is a touch honeyed and followed with a bright and crisp note of acidity.

48

THE GAMBLER Malbec

REGION Mendoza, Argentina (Spe-cifically Lujan de Cuyo, aspecial sub-region just southof the town of Mendoza)Incredible altitude. The entire growing region is up-wards of 800 meters above sea-level.

CLIMATE Arid, temperate and breezy.

SOIL Very gravelly with mixturesof alluvial and sand.

NOTES Malbec is the ‘main event’ in Argentina. Elsewhere in theworld (namely Bordeaux) it only plays a supporting role asa blending grape, but in Argentina’s high-altitude, arid andgravelly Mendoza region, Malbec seems to shine brightest. In Mendoza, the grape generally produces a dark red winethat is full-bodied and full-flavoured, though often lackingin texture. This is where the little-known grape Bonardacomes in, which has texture in spades. We gave The Gambler just enough Bonarda (about 13%) to help give it that long dusty finish.

The Gambler is a broad, brawny, and powerful red wine with flavor and texture for days. Ripe Malbec is counterbalanced with a touch of Bonarda to create a forceful and full mouthfeel of blue and black fruits, leather and spice.

49

DREAM WALKING Chardonnay

REGION California: Mendocino, Santa Rita Hills.

CLIMATE Sourced from the generally cooler growing areas of Cali-fornia in an effort to preserve freshness and create a wine of balance and finesse.

SOILA blend of decomposed ma-rine layer, loam, and clay

NOTESBlending Dream Walking was a process that spanned many months and included tasting thousands of samples to find the right components to make a wine showcasing finesse, balance and food-friendliness. Our aim is for Dream Walk-ing to exhibit the best of what California Chardonnay can be.

Dream Walking carries classic California Chardonnay aromas of toasted almonds, melon, pineapple, green apple and jasmine blossom. A gentle but bright mouthfeel rounds out towards the finish with a nice lift and notes of candied lemon peel.

50

THE FEAST Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon

REGION California: Napa, Carneros, Alexander Valley, North Coast.

CLIMATE Variable from warm to breezy.

SOIL Carneros: Clay; Alexander Valley: Loam; Napa: Tufa

NOTES Top-notch Carneros Merlot and old-vine Alexander ValleyCabernet Sauvignon anchor this blend from both a flavorand texture standpoint and yield a classic right-bank blend.

The Merlot gives The Feast a soft, velvety textured base with aromas of incense, cinnamon and blue fruits, while the Cabernet offers structure, length and focus to the wine.

51

THE WONDERLUST Chardonnay

Wonderlust Chardonnay offers a bright, tasty everyday-drinking white wine. Notes of pineapple, melon, meyer lemon and banana create a balanced and pleasing wine from thecool, coastal regions of Chile.

REGION Colchagua Valley in Chile’s Central Valley (with a smidge from Limari in thenorth).

CLIMATE Colchagua runs East-West towards the Pacific, giving the valley a cooling influ-ence with an abundance of good airflow off the ocean,

moderating the temperature swing from day to night.

SOIL Limestone and volcanic. Tremendous altitude swings with grapes planted as high as 300 meters above sea-level.

NOTES In Chile, Colchagua is the go-to region for good Chardon-nay, and here we were able to achieve the best balance by us-ing wines that were aged only in steel tanks (no oak barrels). In 2010, we added a dash of Semillon to flesh out the texture of the wine and to reinforce that sense of bright crisp fruit. In 2011, we replaced that dash with a grape called Moscatel to maintain that sense of freshness and brightness and also add depth of flavor and texture.

52

COPA CABANA Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere

Copa Cabana is a smooth, easy-drinking red wine. Full of juicy red fruits and with a peppery spice on the finish, Copa’s balance and finesse make for great sipping or pairing with meals

REGION Curico Valley in Chile’s Central Valley.

CLIMATE Curico is situated wellinland in the warmest pocket of the Central Valley. Cool air descends nightly from the Andes Mountains to moderate the sometimes incredibly hot days.

SOIL The soil in Curico is gener-ally more uniform in profile and depth. Some loam, but clay predominates.

NOTES We spent a tremendous amount of time circling back through Curico and its prime subregion of Lontue, seeking out the producers with the best combination of land and at-tention to detail in the cellar, finally settling on one singular producer.
