PRIMERS

Synthetic primers include a wide range of coats used mainly for corrosion protection for steel and structures that use different binders and additives. Depending on their composition, primers can be used for steel, zinc coated surfaces, light and colored metals, wood and others. They are typically used in combination with synthetic topcoats and individually as a coating prior to material transport.

SYNTHETIC PRIMERS

Rokoprim Container RK 103

Rokoprim Container RK 103 is our leading synthetic primer. Its fi rst-class quality, excellent application properties and competitive price combine to make it the most popular synthetic primer. This anticor-rosive quick-drying primer is based on modifi ed alkyd resin with a zinc phosphate pigment and additives. Because of its high thixotropy, it is suitable for thick-layer paint spraying and for products and structures with uneven surfaces. When using an Airless system, a wet fi lm as thick as 400 μm can be sprayed at one time; the sprayed surface is perfectly smooth and does not need to be sealed.

It is most often used as a paint system in combination with the Rokoemail S 2029 synthetic glossy topcoat for containers, steel structures, machinery and equipment and others. Its high quality allows applying the paint under two-component polyurethane topcoats, such as Rokopur email RK 400.

Rokoprim KG RK 116 is a quick-drying anticorrosive thixotropic primer suitable for manufacturers of steel pallets, containers, structures and machinery who need a primer with good application proper-ties and a low price.

Rokoprim S 2000

Rokoprim S 2000 is a well-known synthetic primer. It is used as an anticorrosive coating that adheres well to both steel structures and products and unevenly prepared surfaces. Its price and alkyd resin base with additives make it popular for a wide range of industrial applications and among workers.

It is suitable for alkyd and oil-based enamel paints. Recommended in combination with the Rokoemail S 2029 gloss topcoat or Rokoemail S 2013.

Rokoprim akryl Haftgrund RK 102 is a high-quality primer for demanding applications. It is a quick-drying, single component anticorrosive primer based on acrylic resin. It contains a zinc phosphate pigment and additives. The primer is very universal, adheres well and dries and cures very quickly. It is suitable for almost any surface, including light metals such as aluminum and zinc coated surfaces.

This primer can be used under any topcoat (Alkyd, PUR, EP, etc.). It is most often combined with the Rokopur email RK 400 gloss polyurethane topcoat.

Thanks to its high quality and a wide range of applications, it is typically used in the engineering industry in the production of machinery and equipment with diffi cult surfaces or for outdoor applications on zinc coated surfaces such as roofs, zinc coated sheets and many others.

Epoxy and epoxy ester primers provide excellent adhesion to the most common types of surfaces, including light metals and zinc coated surfaces. They are used mainly as primers under epoxy, polyurethane and acrylic urethane topcoats in diffi cult corrosion conditions and for applications that require long-term material protection.

EPOXY AND EPOXY ESTER PRIMERS

Rokoprim EP S 2300 primer is the main surface fi nishing product for materials that require high anti-corrosion performance. It is a basic two-component anticorrosive epoxy primer with additives and a zinc phosphate anticorrosive pigment. It provides excellent adhesion to the most common types of surfaces, including light metals and zinc coated surfaces. It is mostly used as a primer for epoxy resin, polyurethane and acrylic urethane topcoats in diffi cult corrosion conditions.

It is most often combined with the Rokopur email RK 400 gloss polyurethane topcoat or Rokopur email RK 401 semi-gloss. Different shades are also used in multicoat paint systems.

The main applications of the epoxy resin primer include steel structures, machinery and equipment, construction machinery, portal cranes, vehicle superstructures, bridges, etc.

Rokozink EP S 2399 provides the best corrosion protection in highly corrosive environments, such as C4, C5-I and C5-M, in multicoat paint systems. It is a two-component anticorrosive epoxy resin primer with additives and zinc dust. Its high zinc content provides cathodic protection on steel surfaces (referred to as cold zinc-plating). It is used mostly as a primer for epoxy and polyurethane topcoats.

Rokozink EP S 2399 primer is most often combined with an intermediate coat such as Rokoprim EP S 2312 and Rokopox Mastic MIO RK 301 – M and the Rokopur email RK 400 gloss polyurethane topcoat, or semi-gloss Rokopur email RK 401.

The main areas of application include steel bridges, steel products and structures designated for highly corrosive environments and equipment for more diffi cult climates, such as marine and tropical regions.

Polyurethane primers are high quality paints designed as anticorrosive coatings on metal, zinc coated, wooden, and concrete other surfaces. They provide excellent adhesion and chemical resistance. Combined with polyurethane topcoats, they are used for surface fi nishing of high performance products.

Asphalt-bitumen primers provide very effi cient surface fi nishing for steel and wooden products in extreme water and humidity exposure conditions. They are used mostly to protect rail vehicle and truck undercarriages, containers, habitable containers and others.

Rokosil KH RK 303 is the most common synthetic self-priming paint (popularly referred to as a single-shift paint). Its main benefi ts are its competitive price and good application properties.

It is a quick-drying thixotropic anticorrosive alkyd resin paint with pigments and additives in a semi-matte fi nish.

It is used mostly for the coating of steel products – pallets, containers, steel structures, etc. It is recommended for applications that do not have demanding performance specifi cations for the paint system. It is often used a semi-matte topcoat together with a synthetic primer in a two-coat system.

Self-priming paints are very common and popular for steel and zinc coated surface protection today. Their main advantage is that they combine a primer and topcoat in one paint thus helping to substantially save time during application. Depending on the binder, they are most often used for containers, steel pallets, steel structures, etc.

Rokopur Industry RK 406 is the most widely used self-priming paint. It is popular because of its excel-lent application properties, fast curing and high adhesion to zinc coated surfaces.

This quick-drying, thixotropic anticorrosive two-component self-priming paint is based on acrylic ure-thane, contains additives and has a semi-matte fi nish. It allows a long working time of its hardened mixture.

It is most often used to paint habitable and material containers and steel structures. To enhance its corrosion protection properties, it is used on the Rokoprim EP S 2300 epoxy resin or Rokoprim Container RK 103 primers. A slower evaporation thinner is recommended at higher temperatures.

Synthetic topcoats are a very common group of paints for fi nal surface fi nishing of materials. Their main function is to provide weather-proofi ng barriers. They are most often applied together with synthetic primers on steel structures, machinery, containers and many other products and equipment.

SYNTHETIC TOPCOATS

Rokoemail S 2029 is a highly valuable quick-drying topcoat with increased thixotropy and a high level of gloss. The combination of these factors makes it the best and most popular option for two-coat synthetic paint systems.

It dries very quickly and its high thixotropy makes it suitable even for very uneven surfaces. A wet fi lm as thick as 175 μm can be applied in one spraying. It is a special alkyd resin paint with both inorganic and organic pigments. It is most often combined with the Rokoprim Container RK 103 alkyd quick-drying primer.

The paint is used for surface fi nishing of machinery and related equipment, steel structures, containers, construction machinery, superstructures, transportation equipment, etc.

Rokoemail S 2013 is a gloss topcoat available in 24 basic tinted colors ready for immediate use. The paint is supplied either in hobby-sized packaging or in larger industrial packaging and it is one of the most popular topcoats for households and workers.

It is a synthetic alkyd resin topcoat containing both inorganic and organic pigments. Rokoemail S 2013 is recommended in combination with Rokoprim RK 101 and Rokoprim S 2000 synthetic primers.

The combination of their properties such as high UV resistance, mechanical and chemical resistance make them popular for fi rst-rate surface fi nishing of machinery, equipment and materials that require long-term protection in highly corrosive environments.

Rokopur email RK 400 is a high quality topcoat for high performance applications. It is a very valuable two-component polyurethane high gloss topcoat. The combination of its properties such as high resistance to UV, weather conditions, abrasion, yellowing and chalking and chemical resistance make it the best surface treatment for products that require long-term protection.

Recommended in combination with the two-component Rokoprim EP S 2300 epoxy primer or the single component Rokoprim Container RK 103 alkyd primer.

Water-based primers provide an environmentally friendly and low emission solution for surface fi nishing. Depending on the type of binder, they can be applied to all common materials to provide the required amount of corrosion protection. A disadvantage is their higher sensitivity to ambient temperature and humidity changes during application. Therefore, they are most often applied in situations with constant conditions.

Water-based self-priming paints, also referred to as “single-shift” paints, combine the properties of a primer and a topcoat in one product. They are used for universal surface protection of materials. Their advantage is low emissions, while providing the required amount of surface protection.

Rokoemail Aqua Hobby RK 622 is a water-based gloss topcoat designated for wood and steel parts. It is easy to work with, does not smell of solvents and has a zero VOC content. The paint is certi-fi ed by the National Institute of Public Health pursuant to the requirements of Decree of the Czech Ministry of Health No. 84/2001 Sb., on hygienic requirements for toys and products for children up to 3 years of age.

It is an environmentally and health friendly alternative to the Rokoemail S 2013 solvent-based top-coat. Recommended in combination with the Rokoprim Aqua RK 608 water-based primer. The paint is available in 18 basic tinted shades.

Rokopur email mat RK 430 is a two-component special resin polyurethane matte topcoat with additives. Thanks to its specifi c composition and processing, the main advantage of the paint is the low degree of gloss without any added mattifying agents that are sometimes added to decrease the gloss and often result in a lower quality polyurethane topcoat. The paint is highly resistant to UV, weather, abrasion, yellowing, chalking and chemicals.

Rokopur email mat RK 430 is mostly used a topcoat for steel parts in the engineering industry. Because of its matte appearance, it is suitable for both outdoor and indoor top-class decorative surface fi nishing.

Rokopur email ABS RK 431

Rokopur email ABS RK 431 is a high quality, high gloss two-component topcoat designated mostly for the topcoating of plastic. It is a special resin polyurethane paint with additives. Its highly glossy appearance and mechanical resistance make is especially suitable for applications with demanding requirements in terms of the fi nal fi nish. It is highly adhesive and is therefore suitable for the topcoating of plastic, such as ABS and hard PVC.

Transparent varnishes and glaze paints are designated for both surface treating and for prolonging the durability of wooden materials. Depending on the type and technique of application, highly effi cient varnishes protect wood from mechanical and chemical damage, from weather conditions, or from biological pests, while still improving its esthetic qualities.

TRANSPARENT VARNISHES AND GLAZE PAINTS

Rokolazur Natur Thix is an aroma-free thin-layer varnish based on modifi ed alkyd resin and special oils, containing inorganic and organic micro fi ne pigments. It comes in the popular no-spill thixotropic (gel) texture so that it does not drip from the brush and the applied coat does not run. It provides effi cient wood protection against weather conditions and UV radiation while maintaining wood’s natural appearance, prevents graying and adds a new colorful look. The varnish does not need thinning.

In order to increase the protection of wood, namely any areas exposed to water, use Rokobiostop fungicide aroma-free treatment before applying a varnish. It will protect wood from wood-decaying and wood-staining fungi. To provide long-term protection, apply two to three coats of the treatment. The varnish is most often used for wooden houses, garden furniture, fences, doors, wooden ceilings, shingles, etc. The varnish is certifi ed by the National Institute of Public Health pursuant to Decree of the Czech Ministry of Health No. 84/2001 Sb., on hygiene requirements for toys and products for children up to 3 years of age.

A) CLASSIFICATION OF ENVIRONMENTS

When choosing a paint system, it is important to determine the conditions that the structure or equipment will be exposed to. The main criteria that defi ne cor-rosivity categories are temperature, humidity, UV radiation and possible chemical and mechanical damage.

ISO 12944-2 classifi es the following environments based on corrosivity categories

C1 very low C4 high C2 low C5-I very high (industrial)C3 medium C5-M very high (marine)

B) SURFACE TYPE

When choosing a paint system, it is important to know what type of surface the paint will be applied to, such as steel, heat zinc-coated steel, galvanized zinc-coated steel, aluminum and other light metals, plastic, wood, concrete and others. It is also important to distinguish whether the paint will be applied to a new structure or as part of ongoing maintenance.

C) SURFACE PREPARATION BEFORE APPLICATION

It is important to realize that neglecting proper surface preparation may shorten the paint system’s durability by more than one half of the planned period. The basic rule is to remove any impurities and grease. Today, surfaces are typically pretreated by abrasive blasting. Paint systems specifi ed below refer to the Sa 2½ degree of surface preparation.

D) COATING DURABILITY

ISO 12944 distinguishes three durability ranges.Low – L 2 to 5 yearsMedium – M 5 to 15 yearsHigh – H more than 15 years

The durability range is not a “guarantee time”. Durability is a technical consideration that can help the owner set up a maintenance program. A guarantee time is a legal term and is the subject of clauses in the contract. The guarantee time is usually shorter than the durability range.
