    Host Hotel

Once again the Eastern States Exposition offers an endowment through the Northeastern poultry Congresswhich is in memory of E. Lea Marsh. Lea was a lawyer by profession who was committed to agricultureand poultry throughout his life. For the many exhibitors who were active in past decades, we are left withthe memory of Pioneer Farm White Leghorns in large fowl and bantams. Lea and Pioneer Farm partnerHenry Alf exhibited exquisite specimens of there Leghorns. Lea was also a longtime director of theEastern States Exposition. His endeavors as a director, coupled with his vision for the poultry fancy, wereinstrumental in bringing together the finest attributes of our organiza tions. As a result of his lifelongdedication, the Eastern States Exposition is proud to sponsor the many awards and specials offered at our

show. In turn, the Northeastern Poultry congress is honored to present a forum which is representative ofthe goals of E. Lea Marsh.

The American Poultry Association has prepared a manual and study guide that outlines theshowmanship procedures. You can obtain a copy from the APA. In an attempt to formalize ashowmanship program for our show the exhibitor should be prepared to follow these procedures.

    1. All exhibitors in the class will enter the ring and pose their bird on the table. The judgewill ask you to demonstrate some of the steps outlined in the study guide

    2. You will be asked to coop your bird and the judge will then ask you questions.3. After you answer your questions, you will remove your bird from the cage and return to

    the table with your bird.

Showman should be prepared to answer questions relative to production, health, nutrition, andbreeding about their birds and poultry in general. Showman should dress neatly, preferably inblack or white pants or skirt and a long sleeved white shirt. The most important thing toremember on the day of the show is to handle your bird in a natural and comfortable way forboth you and the bird, at the same time allowing the judge to see what they are looking for.

If you are in the junior showmanship program, please bring a showmanship bird for theprogram. One that will not be entered into the junior show so that it will not disrupt the judging.
