7 ANS DEJA ! Année après année, depuis déjà 7 ans, Slick évolue et renouvelle ses contenus comme ses formes. Ainsi, cette année, nouvelle direction, nou-veaux mouvements : Slick emménage au Garage, au coeur du quartier du Marais qui compte tant de musées et de galeries actives dans la promotion de l’art contemporain. L’édition 2012 accueille de nouvel-les galeries et retrouvent des enseignes qui lui font confiance depuis plusieurs éditions.
Comment offrir aux collectionneurs comme aux institutionnels une foire qui répond à leurs at-tentent ? Slick opte résolument aujourd’hui pour un format de foire à taille humaine et restreint volontai-rement la sélection de ses participants, de manière à offrir sur les deux niveaux de cet ancien garage moderniste un panel haut de gamme, ouvert et géné-reux, d’une quarantaine de galeries internationales, des solo shows aux stands généralistes, des éditeurs aux Slick Projets, ces oeuvres conçues spécialement pour la foire.
SLICK affirme ses choix. Et déploie avec énergie les qualités si importantes de découvertes, de différence et de passion. La foire 2012 entend être le lieu actif de la promotion de toutes jeunes galeries, d’artistes de demain, sans pour autant négliger les enseignes et les figures de l’art plus établies qui nous ont rejoints depuis 2011. Toute foire est à la fois un espace de monstration, de démonstration et d’esprit de «famille». Nous souhaitons que ces valeurs d’en-traides et de riches découvertes soient remarquées et remarquables.
A vous, maintenant de vous emparer avec tous les bonheurs possibles de cette nouvelle édition de Slick !
7 YEARS ALREADY ! Each year and for the past 7 years, Slick has been evolving and renewing both its style and content. This year is no different, promising new hori-zons and directions: Slick will be taking over the Ga-rage, a space at the heart of Paris’ art scene in the Marais neighbourhood, known for its many museums and galleries active in contemporary art promotion. The 2012 edition will welcome new galleries as well as returning galleries that have remained loyal to the fair over the years.
Our main ambition is to offer art collectors and institutions an experience that meets their expec-tations. Slick has therefore opted for a fair that takes place on a more human scale, restricting the number of participating galleries in order to offer – over the two floors of this modernist garage space – a high-end fair, open and generous in its layout, with the presence of publishing houses and approximately 40 international galleries, showcasing both solo and group shows, as well as Slick projects – works that have been concei-ved especially for the fair.
Slick stands by its choices. We put all of our energies behind what we see as Slick’s most im-portant qualities: to be a different fair based on a pas-sion for new discoveries. In 2012, we seek to be an active space for promoting brand new galleries and the artists of tomorrow, without neglecting our loyal and returning galleries as well as more established artists that were first introduced at the fair in 2011. Each fair is at the same time a showcase and a springboard, without forgetting our “family” spirit. We trust that these values based on collaboration and rich discoveries will be both acknowledged and apprecia-ted by our partners and visitors.

MADE IN TROYESDE STéPHANE REMAELPRéSENTé PAR PETIT BATEAU Petit Bateau est né à Troyes, dans l’Aube, il y a bientôt 120 ans. Son usine, « Murard » comme on l’appelle chez Petit Bateau est son coeur historique. Son bâtiment central « Saint Joseph » laisse encore deviner ce qu’il était en 1893. C’est là que Pierre Valton invente en 1918 la petite culotte en coupant les jambes d’un caleçon. Berceau de la bonneterie, Troyes a vu l’indus-trie textile s’étioler au fil du temps. Petit Bateau reste une des rares maisons qui conserve son industrie en France avec un bassin d’emploi de plus de 1000 personnes à Troyes. Cette année encore, Petit Bateau a embauché dans ses ateliers, que ce soit à la confection, à la teinture ou au tricotage.
A la veille de son 120ème anniversaire, Petit Bateau a souhaité mettre en lumière la fierté de ses ouvriers. C’est accompagné de Stéphane Remael, pho-tographe de reportage et de document, ancien membre du collectif de l’oeil public que Petit Bateau a embarqué ses salariés dans un projet original qui donne lieu à une exposition au SLICK Art Fair mais aussi à une exposition intramuros dans les différents sites de la marque. En complicité avec le photographe, chacun a eu la liberté de proposer son propre regard sur son mé-tier, en inventant une mise en scène, jouant des outils, des machines et des matières. Stéphane Remael a ainsi saisi des situations souvent inattendues et parfois drôles ou poétiques. En faisant appel à la créativité des ouvriers, le photographe révèle une autre part d’eux-mêmes, à la croisée étonnan-te d’une spontanéité enfantine et du monde du travail.Marque « made in enfance » depuis 120 ans, Petit Bateau souhaite, avec ce projet, rendre hommage aux femmes et aux hommes qui, à Troyes, fabriquent jour après jour son succès.
STEPHANE REMAEL Stéphane Remael étudie le photojournalisme à l’école Le 75 de Bruxelles. Il co-fonde en 1996 l’agence Oeil Public, qui le représente jusqu’en 2008. Il intègre MYOP et La COMPANY en 2009.Stéphane porte un regard tendre et caustique sur notre condition humaine. Il aime prendre l’actualité à rebours en s’intéressant aux exclus des Jeux Olympiques en Chine, aux réfugiés du Darfour, aux conflits du Caucase ou à la crise alimentaire au Népal.Issu de la photographie documentaire, il s’oriente depuis quelques années vers une écriture plus narrative. Il construit des histoires en privilégiant les compositions humaines, les lumières denses et cinématographiques.stephaneremael.com
