Catalogic ECX 2.0
Version 2.0 of Catalogic ECX brings to market a robust intelligent copy data platform. With ECX 2.0, IT organizations can now manage the full lifecycle of their copy data, from creating the customized policies that create the copies, to the orchestrated workflows that enable their use across the business operations.
The release of ECX 2.0 builds upon the foundation of the central catalog and analytics engine of the previous version with improvements to these functions, while adding revolutionary new functionality that delivers the orchestration of the creation and use of snapshots, vaults, and mirrors, enabling the IT organization to dramatically improve its ability to support use cases such as automated DR, DR Testing, Dev and Test, and Analytics
Explore the chart below for more details on this new 2.0 release. For details on the previous release of ECX 1.2.1, please visit the Catalogic MySupport Portal at :

Feature Description BenefitNetApp Copy and Use Data PoliciesIntelligent Copy Data Management
Copy NetApp® data with snapshots using a NetApp Copy Data policy. A NetApp Copy Data policy consists of snapshot, mirror, and vault sub-policies, each with their own set of options to give you more control of your NetApp protection and/or copy creation needs. After an initial primary snapshot is added to the workflow, additional vaults and mirrors ensure your data is replicated to multiple locations.
Enables insightful management of your NetApp protection and/or copy creation needs. Intelligently replicates and reuses snapshots, vaults, and mirrors. Simple process to consistently configure and deploy snapshots, SnapMirrors and SnapVaults across your environment or cloud. Easy to trouble shoot environment with detailed logging and exception-based reporting.
Flexible Retention Policies
Leverage flexible retention policies to retain copies and meet your required SLA. Instance-based and days-based retention is supported.
Meet your SLAs for Recovery Point Objectives (RPO’s).
Automated Storage Volume Provisioning
NetApp copy data policy automatically provisions volumes of appropriate sizes required for vaults and mirrors.
Increased efficiency in storage management.
Copy Workflow Process Visualization
A graphical workflow displays each step of your copy data management policies.
Facilitates policy creation and visualization.
Multiple Use Case Support for Copy Data
ECX Copy Data Management technology allows you to leverage NetApp data copies through NetApp Use Data policies. These policy types include:
Instant Access Provides instant writable access to a volume or LUN. An ECX snapshot is mapped to a target server where it can be accessed, copied, or put immediately into production use, as needed.
Restore Volume(s) Recover a volume from a primary snapshot, vault, or mirror copy created through an ECX NetApp Copy Data policy. Volumes can be restored to their original location or a new volume in the same or different NetApp cluster or server.
Restore File(s) Recover files from a primary snapshot copy created through an ECX NetApp Copy Data policy. Files are restored to their original location.
Facilitates intelligent and efficient reuse of data copies. Allows for greater business agility.
Site-based recovery and reuse
ECX selects the best site for data recovery or reuse based on your available copies.
Quickly identify and interact with the data created through Copy Data Management policies, and ensure that you leverage the appropriate data copies.

Feature Description BenefitVMware Copy and Use Data PoliciesIntelligentCopy Data Management
Copy VMware® data, including virtual machines, datastores, folders, vApps, and datacenters, with snapshots using a VMware Copy Data policy. A VMware Copy Data policy consists of snapshot, mirror, and vault sub-policies, each with their own set of options to give you more control of your VMware protection and/or copy creation needs. After an initial primary snapshot is added to the workflow, additional vaults and mirrors ensure your data is replicated to multiple locations.
Enables insightful management of your VMware protection and/or copy creation needs. Intelligently replicates and reuses snapshots, vaults, and mirrors.
Application consistency and Pre and Post Snapshot Scripts
In cases where application consistent backups on the virtual machine are required, users can create custom scripts that will run before a virtual machine is snapshotted or after the virtual machine snapshot is completed through a VMware Copy Data policy. In a Windows environment, if your application supports VSS, the Copy Data policy triggers the VSS application quiesce logic when creating the VMware Copy Data policy. However, for applications that don’t support VSS, or on Linux virtual machines, pre and post snapshot scripts can be used to quiesce your application for the snapshot backup.
Data integrity is maintained for application copies, enabling consistent recovery and use.
Flexible Retention Policies
Leverage flexible retention policies to retain copies to meet your required SLA. Instance-based and days-based retention is supported.
Meet your SLAs for Recovery Point Objectives (RPO’s) and data access.
Automatic Volume Provisioning
VMware copy data policy will automatically provision required volumes of appropriate sizes required for vaults and mirrors.
Increased efficiency in storage management.
Copy Workflow Process Visualization
A graphical workflow displays each step of your copy data management policies.
Facilitates policy creation and visualization.
Multiple Use Case Support for Copy Data
ECX Copy Data Management technology allows you to leverage VMware data copies for testing and cloning use cases, instant recovery, and full disaster recovery. VMware Copy Data policies support Instant Virtualization and Instant Access scenarios.
Instant Virtualization - policies are run in the following modes:
Test ModeCreates temporary virtual machines for development/testing, snapshot verification, and disaster recovery verification on a scheduled, repeatable basis without affecting production environments. Test machines are kept running as long as needed to complete testing and verification and are then cleaned up after testing and verification completes. Through fenced networking, you can establish a safe environment to test your policies without interfering with virtual machines used for production. Virtual machines created through Test mode are also given unique names and identifiers to avoid conflicts within your production environment.
Facilitates intelligent and efficient reuse of data copies. Allows for greater business agility.

Feature Description BenefitVMware Copy and Use Data Policies (continued)Multiple Use Case Support for Copy Data (continued)
Instant Virtualization - policies are run in the following modes:
Clone ModeCreates copies of virtual machines for use cases requiring permanent or long-running copies for data mining or duplication of a test environment in a fenced network. Virtual machines created through Clone mode are also given unique names and identifiers to avoid conflicts within your production environment. With clone mode you must be sensitive to resource consumption, since clone mode creates permanent or long-term virtual machines.
Production ModeEnables disaster recovery at the local site from primary storage or a remote disaster recovery site, replacing original machine images with recover images. All configurations are carried over as part of the recovery, including names and identifiers, and all copy data policies associated with the virtual machine continue to run.
Instant Access - Provides instant writable access to data and application recovery points. An ECX snapshot is mapped to a target server where it can be accessed, copied, or put immediately into production use as needed
Facilitates intelligent and efficient reuse of data copies. Allows for greater business agility.
Site-based recovery and reuse
ECX selects the best site for data recovery or reuse based on your available copies.
Quickly identify and interact with the data created through ECX policies, and ensure that you leverage the appropriate data copies.
ReportingNew DPX Reports
DPX reports present important data pertaining to DPX nodes, storage, and status. Tailor DPX reports to meet your specific reporting requirements, schedule them, and have them emailed to your inbox.
