“ Perrelet, inventor of the automatic watch,

perpetuates its know-how through time ”

Page 3: Catalogue

Abraham-Louis Perrelet and his son Louis-Frédéric left their mark on watchmaking

with their respective inventions: the automatic winding movement and the split-

seconds chronograph. The Perrelet company today carries on this unique know-

how and places the movement at the centre of its priorities.

Worthy heir of an invention that today resonates in every automatic watch, it’s

from this legitimate heritage that Perrelet derives its dynamism and creativity. The

Brand proposes timekeepers steeped in modernity, originality and exclusivity.

All Perrelet creations are, without exception, fi tted with automatic movements.

Perrelet has elected to favour the development of modules on recognised and

reliable bases and is concentrating on the decoration of its oscillating weights and

movements. Thanks to its ‘manufacture’ competency, the company is able to meet

the expectations of the most sophisticated connoisseurs.

In the following pages, our “Retrograde Regulator”, “Large Central Moon Phase”

and “Double Rotor” bear the symbol of a , the specifi c sign of our exclusive

models.

True to its aesthetic codes, Perrelet maintains its quality of legibility. These various

interpretations housed in cases with distinctive fl uting, characteristic of the Brand,

are perfect and unique.

The “Double Rotor” is the real incarnation of the singularity that characterises

Perrelet. With its unique conception and Perrelet patent, the Double Rotor is the

Brand’s icon. The complexity of its mechanism makes it possible to observe and

visualise the automatic winding function on the dial. The synchronisation of the

two rotors, lower and upper, provides the opportunity to observe the good func-

tioning of the movement and gives it a more effi cient winding facility than that of

classic models.

Perrelet, a veritable actor in the fi eld of luxury watchmaking, enriches this universe

with elegance and refi nement. The art of harnessing its watchmaking expertise,

emanating from a long tradition and state of the art production, enables Perrelet

to offer reliable timekeepers with an international 3-year guarantee.

History

1780

That year, he fi nalised the fi rst Pedometer and so

became the fi rst person to make watches with cylinder,

duplex, escapements, date watches and equation

watches. He fi ne-tuned the gear train even further,

improving the pinions, wheels, escapement and wind-

ing mechanism.

1777

From the 1770s, he concentrated on devising a system,

which after an initial impulse, would continue to func-

tion indefi nitely. In 1777, he completed his revolution-

ary invention : the automatic self-winding movement.

To this day, no one has found a better way of animat-

ing mechanical calibres.

1781

Louis-Frédéric Perrelet was born in 1781, inheriting his

grandfather’s watchmaking genius. As he displayed a

liking for mechanics and mathematics, he was edu-

cated by his grandfather, before setting up in Paris to

study in the Breguet workshops. Thanks to his talents,

he quickly showed himself to be an independent

watchmaker.

1729

Birth of Abraham-Louis Perrelet in the Neuchâtel moun-

tains of Switzerland. This man was a master of his art

and his talents and genius have become a reference

through the ages. Interested in the watchmaking trades,

he devoted himself from his adolescence to the con-

struction of a certain number of precision instruments.

1823

His growing interest in astronomy, physics and math-

ematics encouraged him to create the so-called “ intel-

ligent ” watches. An astronomical clock designed in

1815 and presented at the Universal Exhibition in Paris

in 1823, earned him the royal appointment as watch-

maker-engineer to three kings of France.

1834

In honorary recognition of his Europe-wide reputation,

Louis-Frédéric Perrelet, highly regarded for his talent

and perseverance, was elevated to the level of Knight

of the Legion of Honour in 1834, in addition to the

many gold medals he had received.

1827

For the occasion of the Exhibition of French Industrial

Products, he presented an exceptional fl y-back counter

for physics and astronomy. This instrument, for which

a patent was offi cially granted to him in March 1828,

won him the Academy of Sciences medal in 1830.

The Double Rotor model is fi tted with the famous, exclusive

Perrelet P-181 movement, an invention patented by the Brand in

1995. This calibre reveals a rotor on the dial side, fi rmly anchored

and perfectly synchronised with the second one situated under

the mechanism. The two rotors perform the winding of the

automatic movement. The elegance of the displays ( hour, minute,

central seconds and date ) shows off all the qualities and features

of this model, unique in its kind, a veritable Brand symbol…

Unique and atypical…

Deriving their aesthetical inspiration from the fi eld of aeronautics,

our engineers and watch designers have created a new adaptation

of the Perrelet patent, the “Double Rotor”.

The double rotor, transformed for the occasion into a turbine fi tted

with 12 blades made of titanium, covers the whole of the dial and

slips beneath an interior black bezel. On the under dial, markers

accentuate the optical effect and make the impact of this model

all the more sensational. An effect which, on this model only, has

been reinforced by the exceptional separation of the two rotors.

The turbine is housed in a concave-shaped case. The crown,

specially worked and integrated in the case, respects these perfect

lines.

The black, silver or anthracite dials, sober and refi ned, are housed

in a distinctively fl uted case, one of the Brand’s hallmarks, and

special care is devoted to the stamping of the Brand’s rotor outline

on the unique closed case back of the collection.

True to its code of aesthetics, Perrelet maintains its quality of

legibility and endows this collection with a contemporary and yet

timeless value.

Place of honour for traditional values…

Eternally fashionable and a symbolic reference in the area of the

“small” complication, the chronograph watch can turn into an

instrument at any moment, where watchmaker precision is

required to measure sporting performances. Thanks to their

sapphire case backs, enthusiasts will discover the rich and unique

Very popular with collectors who are lovers of beautiful

watchmaking, the Perrelet Skeleton movement demonstrates the

company’s technical expertise. The success encountered by this

stainless steel model led Perrelet to introduce it in an 18 carat gold

case. Consisting of several hundred parts, which have been

embellished individually by hand, this skeleton chronograph

boasts an openwork dial, which allows the eye to explore the

complexities of the mechanism at leisure. A magnifi cent and

intriguing voyage of exploration, marked by the eminently legible

indications on the four functional discs.

Split-Seconds Chrono

In homage to Louis-Frédéric Perrelet for his exceptional split-

seconds counter, which he patented in 1828, this split-seconds

chronograph (“rattrapante”) collection represents the innovation

and openness of the Brand. Apart from the extraordinary

complexity and decoration of the movement, watchmaking

enthusiasts will appreciate the elegance of the fi nish on the glass

discs, which have taken the place of traditional hands. The result

of a perfect harmony between tradition and modernity.

The watch is an object of art

that evolves with time.

A watch on which the hours and minutes are indicated separately

is called a Regulator. A function, where the hand at the end of its

cycle jumps back to its initial position, is called Retrograde.

For the fi rst time, Perrelet combines these two functions in an

exclusive and magnifi cent wrist watch, available in 18 ct pink gold

since the earliest nights, the lunar star, serves as the rhythm of

our lives and is a source of infi nite inspiration and extreme

This new model embodies Perrelet’s contemporary vision of top

of the range mechanical watchmaking, offering an original

timepiece. This watch, manufactured in the “Vallée de Joux”, has

the P-191 “jumping hour” automatic calibre, and provides its

wearer with a very easy to read display. A large window at

12 o’clock displays the hour, which “jumps” the moment the

minute hand reaches sixty. The hand indicating the minutes is

off-centre. As a result, the seconds are indicated much more

conspicuously.

Inspired by Perrelet’s traditional collections, the case design

instantly recognizable, hardy character. However, despite their

anthracite, on some models enhanced with a teinted crystal ; an
