Madi a Thavha Madi a Thavha mountain farm is offering services and products in the fields of tourism, farming, home decoration, and community projects, in such a way that they contribute to the improvement of daily life of the people in the local communities. We are developing a business that offers quality products and services and in the mean time we support people of the local communities by creating jobs, offering training and mentoring opportunities, and stimulating entrepreneurship. We would like to share the rich Venda and Shangaan culture with anyone who enjoys the natural and cultural environment of the Soutpansberg. Madi a Thavha design In June 2005 we have started ‘Madi a Thavha design’, a project to create employment for women living in the rural areas around Madi a Thavha mountain farm. We have developed a wide range of home decoration products for example table clothes, place-mats, cushions and aprons. We are using the Venda stripe fabrics that the Venda women use to make their traditional dress. From the traditional way of decorating the attire, we have developed a very special decoration style making use of biases, black or shells buttons and small beads. By using Venda stripe fabrics and textile decoration techniques the traditional Venda culture and crafts will revive. The Venda stripes are locally designed and printed from high quality cotton by ‘DaGama’ Textiles in Durban, South Africa. At the moment three different collections of home decoration products are available for which the following fabrics are used.

Yellow Mustard Green Brown Orange Red

Classic collection For this collection we combine the Venda stripes with bright colours plain material which we decorate with bright colored biases, shelf buttons and beads. Items in our classic collection are for example placemats, table clothes, table runners, serviettes, and cushions.

Outdoor collection For this collection we use mainly the Venda stripe material combined with Shangaan dotted biases that we decorate with black buttons and beads in bright colours, and plain and dotted piping in the colors of the Venda stripe material. Items in our outdoor collection are for example placemats, table clothes, table runners, serviettes, and cushions.

Kitchen collection Also the kitchen collection is made from Venda stripe materials, decorated with the Shangaan dotted material, black buttons, and beads. Items in our kitchen collection are aprons, tea pot covers, potholders, and oven gloves. Cards We are also making passé-partout cards in the same style as the home decoration products, using bright colors. The cards are made from locally produced recycled paper. The cards are available with envelopes and each of them is packed in a cellophane bag. The benefits of the cards are contributing community projects

Tailor made Different sizes, colours and items are available on special request. We support you also with making a plan for your tableware, bed linen, home decoration, clothing, and staff uniforms.
