Why the need for a new ILMS?
Our existing ILMS, III’s Millennium, had reached its end of life, and no new
functionality was being added
The legislated, mandated requirement to raise the visibility of the SANB
Our wish to increase the international footprint of the NLSA
The need to streamline work flows and work processes
Our desire to improve the discovery experience of our users, in line with new
technological functionality
Our need to manage our legal deposit e-resources
Our need to create a Heritage Asset register in line with GRAP 103

Why WorldShare Management Services (WMS)
It is a system we know and it provides us with international exposure
Launched in 2011 over 600 libraries worldwide have subscribed to its services
It provides a suite of applications covering all our library needs
It makes use of cloud hosting
It provides an international forum for collaboration, co-operation and sharing of
data, meaning you become part of a global library co-operative

Record Manager: what is it all about?
WorldShare Record Manager allows you to create new and enrich existing
items in WorldCat with efficient, record-at-a-time metadata management for
your physical and electronic materials

WHAT TO EXPECT!!!!!!
This presentation is just that, it is a presentation (not a workshop) it outlines the
ways you can create a bibliographic record and associated Local Bibliographic
Data (LBD) record and Local holdings Record (LHR) on WMS in Record
Manager
I will not be teaching you how to catalogue, and I assume that you are familiar
with both MARC and RDA.
This presentation is divided into two parts: a theoretical explanation with
associated screenshots as to how to create a bibliographic record, and
(hopefully) a live demonstration of this theory, concentrating on the creation of
a derived record

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking my NLSA colleagues for
assisting me with this presentation.
Particularly Mrs M. de Beer who expertly and patiently steered me around the
functionality associated with the creation of the Bibliographic records, Local
Holdings Records and Local Bibliographic Data
THANK YOU
ANY QUESTIONS?
No? Excellent!!
Let’s move on to the practical demonstration of the creation of a bibliographic
record and the associated Local Holdings Record and Local Bibliographic Data
record
