Chapter1-YouMustBeAnointedIhadnoformaltrainingintheministry;noBibleschoolandverylittlecontactwithanygreatmanofGod.WhenI startedout inministry, someof themenofGodIcame intocontactwithendedupdoubtingandfightingthecallofGodonmylife.IhadnooptionbuttotapintotheanointingthatwasonothermoredistantmenofGodthroughtheirtapesandbooks.

IbelievethatIamanointedwiththeHolyGhosttostandinmyofficeofministry.Ihavetoo much evidence around me to doubt the reality of the anointing on my life. I alsobelievethattheelectronicandtechnologicaldevelopmentintheworldisforthebenefitofthe kingdom ofGod and theministry. Technology hasmade it possible to get close topeoplewhoareanointed.

ItIstheAnointingThatYouNeedWhenGodsendsyouamanofGod,youaregivenachancetoreceivehimandcatchtheanointingthatisonhislife.TheanointingistheprincipalthingthatyouandIneedtodoGod’swork.TheprophetZechariahknewthatthemostimportantthingwastheanointing.Itwashewhosaid,“Notbymight,notbypower,butbymySpirit”(Zechariah4:6).

Elisha also realized that the thing which made Elijah’s ministry successful was theanointing.When he had the opportunity, he asked for the anointing. Some peoplemayhaveaskedfor themoney, theeducationor thequalificationsthatElijahhad.ButElishajustwantedtheanointing!

…ElijahsaiduntoElisha,AskwhatIshalldoforthee,beforeIbetakenawayfromthee.AndElishasaid,Ipraythee,letadoubleportionofthyspiritbeuponme.

Inthisbook,Iwanttoshareaboutachannelofanointingthatisnotusuallyspokenof.Itmaysoundnewtoyou,butitisveryreal.Ifthereisanywaybywhichyoucancatchtheanointing,pleasetakeit!IamnotpresentingthisastheonlywaythatGodcananointyou;Iamonlysharingwithyouwhat Ihave received from theLord. I amsharingwithyouwhatisbiblicallyandscripturallysound.

Manypeoplehavereceivedtheanointingthroughlisteningtotapesandreadingbooks,buttheydonotunderstandwhathashappened to them.Manyof thosewhohavereceivedthe anointing through this channel cannot teach it because they do not fullyunderstandit.Ibelievethatitismydutytoteachthissimpleandrealmethodofcatchingthemostessentialingredientofministry-theanointing.

Chapter2AssociatingwithGreatMenofGodInanotherbook1,IhavesharedabouttheimportanceofassociatingcloselywiththemanofGod inorder to receive theanointingonhis life.Whydoyouhave toassociatewithanointedmenofGod?Whatexactlydoyouacquirethroughassociation?Asyoucloselyassociate with a man of God, you will hear him speaking over and over again. Thesewordscontaintheanointing.WhenElishaassociatedhimselfcloselywithElijahheheardhimspeakingoverandoveragain.

WordsArePowerful!Jesustoldhisdisciplesthathiswordscontainedtwoimportantthings.TheycontainedlifeandtheSpirit!WhatisthisSpirit?TheSpiritistheanointing!TheScripturesaysthatGodanointedJesusofNazarethwiththeHolyGhostandwithpower(Acts10:38).JesuswasanointedwiththeHolyGhost,andthereforetheHolyGhost(thesubstancewithwhichhewasanointed)istheanointing.

Formanypeople, thecloseassociationwithmenofGodwespeakabout isnotpossibleexceptthroughthemediumofbooksandtapes.BooksandtapesmaycontainthewordsofanointedmenofGod.ThewordsofanointedmenofGodcontaintheSpiritandlife.

YoucanbewithJesustodaybyreadinghiswordsintheBible.IamconstantlyamazedatthenumberofministerswhodonotreadtheBible.TheyjustusetheBibleasatoolforpreaching.TheWordofGodis,firstofall,foryourbenefit.

You will not be a minister of substance if you do not have your own personalfellowshipwiththeLord.Idonotmeanalast-minutecheckofcertainScripturesbeforeyoupreach.AquickcheckofaScriptureisdifferentfromfellowshippingwithsomebodythroughthewrittenWord.

FellowshipwithJesuseveryday.Godwantstointeractwithyou.Hewantstofellowshipwithyou.God’sdesiresincethedaysofAdamhasbeentofellowshipwithman.

WhenMosescamedownfromthemountainafterfellowshippingwiththeLord,thegloryoftheLordwasuponhim.ThegloryoftheLordwillbeuponyouwhenyoufellowshipwithGod.

WhenIwokeupinthisworld,IfoundmyselfinGhana,WestAfrica.IrealizedthatIwasveryfarfromthegreatmenofGodinAmerica.Idesperatelywantedtofellowshipwiththembuttherewasnowaypossible.IdidnotevenhaveavisatoAmerica,norhadIanymoneytobuyaplaneticket.EvenifIhadbeenabletogetthere,manywouldhaveseenmeasacrazyblackmanwhowastryingtoget tooclose!Theywouldhavecalledtheirsecurityguardstoprotectthemfromme.SoGodshowedmeawaythatIcouldfellowshipwithsomeofthemostanointedpeopleofthisgeneration;theirbooksandtapes!

I have fellowshippedwithmanypeople through their books. I got to know theirmindsthroughtheirbooks.Inthesameway,IhaveinteractedwiththeLordJesusbyreadingtheBibleandstudyinghiswordsandactions.

OneofmyfavouriteportionsoftheBibleistheGospels.IntheGospels(Matthew,Mark,LukeandJohn),IcanseewhatJesussaidandIcanhearhimspeakingtomepersonally.

Theanointingmakespeopletakenoticeofyou.

Acts4:13

TwoTypesofReceiversTherearetwotypesofpeoplewhomayreceivetheanointing–thosewhoarephysicallynearandthosewhoarephysicallyafaroff.Yousee,somepeoplehavetheopportunitytobe physically near to the anointed vessel. The Apostles, Peter, James and John werephysicallyclosetotheLord.Theytouchedhim,theyheldhimandtheyevenhaddinnerwithhim.Thisistheirtestimony:

Thatwhichwasfromthebeginning,whichwehaveheard,whichwehaveseenwithoureyes,whichwehavelookedupon,andourhandshavehandled…

Unfortunately,ApostlePauldidnothavethechancetophysicallyinteractwithChristastheother apostlesdid.Paulwas just likeme,hehad todependonbooks!He lovedhisbooks.That iswhyhesenturgentlyforhisbooksandparchments(booklets).Hehadtostudyand fellowshipwith theLord andothergreatmenofGod like Isaiah through thewrittenWord.

If Paul had lived in our generation hewould have used all the technology available toreceiveevenmoreoftheWordandtheanointing.Paulwouldhavelistenedtotapesandwatchedvideos.BookscontainthewrittenWord,buttapescontainthespokenWord.YoucancatchtheanointingfromthespokenWord.

Chapter3-TheArtofSoakinginTapesSoaking in themessages from tapes is a scriptural practice. “Soaking” in tapes simplymeanstolistentothewordsoverandoveragainuntilitbecomesapartofyouanduntiltheanointingpassesontoyou!Whenatapeisfully“soaked”,boththeWordcontentandtheSpiritcontentareimbibedintoyourspirit.Theanointingisnotsomethingyoulearn,itissomethingyoucatch.

Do not assume that the “soaking” in of the tape is just an educational exercise. It is aspiritualevent.Twoimportantthingshappenwhenyousoakinatape.First,faithcomesbyhearing,andhearingbytheWord(Romans10:17).Secondly,theanointingoftheSpiritthroughthewordscomesintoyou.

The Spirit enters a person as he receives theWord of God. That is whymany peopleexperiencearadicaltransformationbyjustlisteningtoapowerfulmessagefromtheWordofGod.ThatishowcomepeoplearesavedwhentheyhearthepreachingoftheWordofGod.TheHolySpiritentersintothemasthepreachinggoesforthandtheyarebornagain.

TheBiblesaysthatwearebornoftheSpirit.

Thatwhichisbornofthefleshisflesh;andthatwhichisbornoftheSpiritisspirit.

John3:6

Beingbornagainisnotaneducationalexperience.Beingbornagaindoesnotmeanthatyou have learnt something new. Itmeans that a spiritual change has taken place.Yourspirit has been recreated by the Holy Spirit. This experience of being born again,completely and forever changes a person’s life. It happens when people listen to thepreachingoftheWordofGod.Thatiswhyweinvitepeopletochurch.Wewantthemtobeexposedtothepreaching.

Inthesamewaythatwhenyouarebornagain,youexperienceaspiritualtransformation,you can also experience a further spiritual transformation that will convert you into aminister. This spiritual transformation that makes you a minister is what some call

“receivingananointing”or“beinganointed”.Therearetoomanypeoplewhoarecalledministers,yettheyhaveneitherreceivedacalltoministrynortheanointingtominister.

Whenyouhavenotbeenanointed,youaredryandlifeless.IusedtogotochurcheverySunday and I hated it! Itwas a lifeless andboring experience. I onlywentbecausemyparents had asked me to go. Unfortunately, not only are some so-called ministers notanointed but they are not even born again. This is even worse! You do not become aminister by obtaining a certificate.You become a minister when God calls you andanointsyou!

Churches do not grow because there is no anointing for church growth. Pastorseverywheremustdesiretheanointing.Itistheanointingthatmakesthedifference!Onceyou know the anointing, youwill not want anything else. Youwill not succeed in theministrybybeingclever.Intelligenceandeducationarenotsubstitutesfortheanointing!Desiretheanointing!Goforit!Itisthemainthing!Andthemainthingisstillthemainthing!

Jesus’FirstSermonThefirstsermonthatJesuspreachedwasabouttheanointing.Thefirstthingthathesaidwhenhebeganhisministrywasthathewasanointed.

TheSpiritoftheLordisuponme,becausehehathanointedmetopreachthegospeltothepoor…

Luke4:18

Infact,Jesusdidnotattemptanyformofministryuntilhewasanointed.Jesusknewthatthe

Ministrydependedontheanointing.

ChurchEldersIrecentlyvisitedalargebeautifulchurch.Thepastorhimselfwasnotaroundsothejanitortookusaroundthebuilding.Themainhallhadhundredsofbeautifulmahoganypews.Itwasabeautifulbuildingwithtwohugepipeorgansandsurroundingbalconies.

Iaskedthejanitor,“Howmanypeopledoesthisbuildingseat?”

Heanswered,“Thisbuildingseatsatleasteighthundredandeightypeople.”

“Wow,”Iremarked,“That’salotofpeople!”

Hecontinued,“But,wedon’thavemanypeoplecomingtochurchanymore.”

“Isee.Howmanypeoplecometochurchnowadays?”Iaskedinquisitively.

“About twenty,with amaximum of thirty people.”He added, “Only old people attendchurchnow.Theyoungpeopledon’tcometochurchanymore.”

Ithought,“Howsad.Suchalargechurchhasbeenreducedtoafellowshipoftwentyoldanddyingpeople.”

Obviouslytherewasnolife.Butthatwasnotall.Thejanitorcontinued,“Fromthismonthonwards,theservicesarebeingheldeverytwoweeksinsteadofeveryweek.”

Ithoughttomyself,“Weholdchurchservicesonalmosteverydayoftheweek.Thereissomuch life inour church. It is full ofmainlyyoungpeoplewhowant to serve theLord.Whatacontrast!”

Thedifferencebetweenagrowingandadeadchurchistheanointing.TheanointingisthelifeofGodintheministry.Oh,howweneedtheanointing!WecannotdowithouttheHolySpirit.

SohowdowecomebythisHolySpirit?Thatiswhatthisbookisabout.Godistryingtoshowyouthatyouneedtheanointing.YoumaybeministeringtheWord.Youmayevenbeordained.However, it isonlywhenyouareanointed thatyourministrywillbegin tomakeadifferencetothelostmassesofhumanity.Iseetheanointingonyourightnowasyoureadthisbook!

The prophet Ezekiel experienced the anointing entering his life one day. He describedexactlyhowandwhentheanointingcameuponhim.Ezekielsensed that thepowerandtheanointingoftheSpirithadenteredintohimwhilsthewaslisteningtotheWord.

Ezekielsaidveryclearly in thisScripture that theHolySpiritentered intohimwhenhewasbeingspokento.

Peter, theapostle,alsonoticed thisphenomenon.Henoticed that thepowerof theHolySpiritfellonpeopleashepreached.DoyourememberwhenPeterwaspreachingtotheGentiles? TheBible says that as heministered theWord, the Spirit ofGod fell on thepeople.

WhilePeteryetspakethesewords,theHolyGhostfellonallthemwhichheardtheword.

Acts10:44

IfthegiftoftheHolySpiritcouldfallonpeoplewhilstPeterwaspreaching,thensurelythe gift of the Holy Spirit can fall on you when any other anointed man of God ispreaching.Thisissimplelogic.

HowitAllBegan…Atfiveo’clockinthemorningonJanuary1st1987,IdecidedtoobeythecallofGodonmylife.ItwasintheearlyhoursofthefirstdayofthatNewYearwhenIdecidedtotakeupthemantleandbecomeapastor.IknewthatIhadbeencalled,soIhaddecidedtoobeyandbecomeapastor.

At the time, Iwas in the fourth year ofmedical school. I began the churchwith a fewnursingandlaboratorystudentsintheKorle-BuTeachingHospital,whereIwasstudyingmedicine.IhadnoonetodirectorguidemesoIstruggledquiteabitduringthatfirstyear.

By the end of 1987, many friends had expressed their lack of confidence in me anddeserted me. I was criticized until I felt like killing myself, just to make my enemieshappy.Irememberlookingattheceilingfanasittwirledabovemybed.Ioftenthoughtofhanging myself on it. I wanted to vanish out of the view of all those who hated andcriticizedme.Ihadverylittleguidance,butIwassincereandhadalotoffaith,andmanyenemies.ItisamazinghowpeoplehateyouwhenyoudecidetofollowthecallofGod.

Thiswastheprecariousanddoubtfulbeginningofmyministry.IstartedoutbyfaithandbeganteachingandpreachingwhatIknew.Afewnursingstudentsresponded.

In thebeginning, thechurchmet ina littleclassroomat theSchoolofHygiene.Afterawhile, many people left and some stayed. The little church stabilized with about fortymembers. But something happened to me in 1988 that made a big difference to myministry. It transformedtheministryfroma littleclassroomfullofnursingstudents toaministrythatimpactsthousandsofpeoplearoundtheworldtoday.

Chapter4-MyTestimonySometimeduringthemiddleoftheyear1988,Ihadtofulfilwhatiscalleda“CommunityHealthRotation”.Everyclassinmedicalschoolisdividedintogroups.Eachgrouprotatesthroughdifferentfieldsofmedicinethroughouttheyear.Thatiswhyitiscalledarotation.I had to complete four rotations in my final year: surgery, medicine, specials andcommunityhealth.

During the Community Health Rotation, I had to travel outside the city of Accra to asmallertowncalledSuhum,inanotherregionofthecountry.WhileIwasthere,IlivedintheSuhumGovernmentHospitalforonemonth.Iwastheretogainpracticalexperienceinrunningahospital andworkingouton the fieldwhereconditionsaredifferent from thebiggercities.

AlthoughIwasfulfillingmymedicalrequirements,asusualmymindwasontheministry.Bythesecondweek,Itookadvantageofamorerelaxedtimetableanddecidedtofastandpray.OnmywayoutofAccratoSuhum,IhadpassedthroughaChristianbookshopandboughtsomeofKennethHagin’stapes.IfeltthatIjustneededsomethingtosoakinwhilstIwas inSuhum. I had been a great follower and admirer ofKennethHagin’sministry.Actually, I had already listened to those particular tapes many times before, but I justwanted tohavesomething to listen to.Noonehadever toldmeto listen to tapes. I justenjoyeddoingit.IlovedtheWordandIlovedtheministeroftheWord.Noonehadevertold me to listen to tapes over and over. I was not trying to memorize the messagealthoughIendeduprememberingalmosteverysentence.Listeningtotapesneverreplacedmy Bible study and personal quiet times. I was not losing my personality! I wasn’tbecomingaclone.Iwasbeingblessedtremendously!

One night I was praying, fasting and listening to one of the tapes that I had bought. Iremember that day as if it was yesterday. I was using a small red auto-reverse taperecorder. Themessage thatwas being playedwas about dealingwith demons. Itwas amessageIhadenjoyedlisteningtomanytimes.Thetapeplayednon-stopthroughoutthenight.

SomethingHappened!Atabout3a.m.,Iwaskneelingbythebedpraying.Icouldseethetaperecordersituatedat theotherendof the room.Thensuddenly, something literally jumpedoutof the tapewhichwasplayingandmovedintomybelly.Icouldfeel itenteringme.ThenIheardavoicesaying,“Fromnowyoucanteach.”IdidnotknowwhatthatwasbutI thoughttomyself,“Thatisgood,becauseIwanttoteach.”IdidnotknowatthattimethatIhadreceivedamajorimpartationofanointingthroughthechannelofsoakingintapes.

Atthattime,mychurchcomprisedaboutfortystudents.TheBibleteachesthatweshouldproveall things,soIdecidedto tryout thisnewgifting.Iwasinvitedto teachataFullGospelBusinessmen’sbreakfastmeeting inSuhum.Thiswas the firstministrationaftermy impartation experience. I tell you, I noticed a difference. After the ministration,someone asked me where my church was. He was surprised that I was an unknownminister.InsidemeIknewthatsomethinghadhappenedthatwasmakingadifference.

When I got back to the church, after a month’s absence, I noticed a difference in myability to teachandpreach.TheanointinghadarrivedandIbegantobuildup.Thefirstseries Ipreachedwasabout theprodigal son. Ipreached this seriesduringourweekdayservices. I soonnoticed that theattendanceand interest in the servicebegan to increasesteadily.Itellyou,InoticedtherewassomelifeandSpiritintheministry.

Itisdifficulttodescribeitbutwhenitisthereyouknowitisthere!Theanointingisabitlikebeauty–whenyousee it,youknowit!Youcannoteasilyexplainhoworwhyyourecognizebeauty.Butwhenyouseebeauty,youknowthatitisthere,andsoitiswiththeanointing!

IhavenoreasontogiveforwhatIamsharingexcepttohelpyou.MyministryhasgrowninleapsandboundsbecauseoftheanointingIcaughtfromsoakingintheWordonatape.Today, you are reading one of the several books that I have written under that sameteachinganointing.

Atthattime,IdidnothaveanybiblicalbasisforwhatIhadexperienced,soIdidnottalkaboutit.Later,asIstudiedtheWordofGod,IrealizedthatthemysteryofimpartationofanointingthroughthesoakingoftheWordisareality.Itisbiblical!Itisdoctrinallysoundanditisexperimentallyreal!

Anyonewhoexposeshimself to“soaking in” theWord throughbooksand tapes isexposing himself tomore of the anointing!When you do that, only good thingswillhappentoyou.

OndifferentoccasionsIhaveheardpeopledescribehowtheyhavereceivedtheanointingas they sat in the congregation and received the ministry of the Word. One pastordescribedhowhefeltwarmdropsofanointingfallingonhisheadasIspoketheWordataCampMeeting.IbelievetheLordwasanointingthisman.

T. L.Osborne, the great evangelist, described howGod changed hisministry as he satunder theministry ofWilliamBranham. It all happened in amoment, and thenhewasanointed to go out and be a great witness to the world. It is interesting that outsiders

sometimesarebetterreceiversthaninsiders.Doyourememberthestoryofthecenturionwhoseservantwassick?HesentforJesusbecauseheknewthatJesushadtheanointingandpowertoheal.

Anda certain centurion’s servant,whowasdearuntohim,was sick, andready todie.AndwhenheheardofJesus,hesentuntohimtheeldersoftheJews,beseechinghimthathewouldcomeandhealhisservant.

And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he wasworthyforwhomheshoulddothis:

Forhelovethournation,andhehathbuiltusasynagogue.

Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, thecenturionsentfriendstohim,sayinguntohim,Lord,troublenotthyself:forIamnotworthythatthoushouldestenterundermyroof:

WhereforeneitherthoughtImyselfworthytocomeuntothee:butsayinaword,andmyservantshallbehealed.

Luke7:2-7

This man realized that there was anointing in the words of Jesus. So he sent anothermessagetoJesus.

Hesaid,“Don’tbothertocomeallthewayhere.Juststandthereandsaysomething.”

Inotherwords,“Thereisnoneedforyoutoevenlayhandsorpouroilonmyservant,justspeaksomewordsandthehealinganointingwillflow.”

Hesenthisword,andhealedthem,anddeliveredthemfromtheirdestructions.

Psalm107:20

TheAngelAppearsOne night, whilst ministering at a Miracle Wave Convention, something astonishinghappened.Therewerethousandsofpeoplepresent thatnightandthepowerofGodwas“flowing”.ThatnightIrememberthatwhenIfinishedpreachingtheWord,IfeltthatGodhadalreadymoved. Itwasnot evennecessary todoanything further.Therewasa ladysittingupinthebalconywithherbabyandhusband.

This ladysuddenlyexperiencedanopenvision.Hereyesopenedsupernaturallyandshecouldseemeandeverybodyelseonthestage.Butshealsosawahugeangelstandingonmylefthandsidesuspendedinmidair.

She said that some people had outstretched hands andwere very receptive. The angelswouldgo straight to themwith theblessings.Whilstotherswere receiving,otherswere

dozingoffandmissingoutonthespiritualimpartationthatwastakingplace.

Ibelievethat thisangelgoesaroundwithmewheneverIminister.Iknowthat that“bigguy”hasbeenassignedtome.Heismyministeringangel.Spiritualthingsareasrealasphysical things.TheBible teachesus thatangelsareministeringspirits thatminister forus.Theyworkforusandhelpus.ThatiswhytheangelwasdistributingspiritualparcelstothosewhowerereceivingtheWord.

Chapter5CatchanAnointingAnyonewholistenstotapesandreadsbookswillreceivetoagreaterorlesserextentsomeanointing. Some people are not impressed or moved by the message. Some are evenoffendedbyit.AsJesussaid,“Blessedishethatisnotoffendedinme.”Somepeopleareexcited by themessage. Some cannot remember anything; they just know that itwas agoodmessage.

As you listen to a tape, you learn the message. You learn theWord. You acquire theknowledge content. Some people stop at this point. But others go even further. I wentfurther without even knowing what I was doing. Somehow it was not the knowledgecontentthatIwasafter.Ifitwasknowledge,Ihadvirtuallyassimilatedallthefactsthatwerebeingsharedafterafewtimesoflisteningtothetape.MylovefortheWordmademeexposemyselftotheanointingwithoutevenknowingit.

IrememberbeingblessedbythemessagesofapastorofahugechurchinLosAngeles,California.IhadafewvideosofhisthatIthoroughlyenjoyed.Iwouldwatchthesevideosoverandoveragain.AsIwatchedthispastorpreachinginhischurch,Idesiredtohaveachurchlikethatandtopreachaswellashedid.Oneday,Iwaspreachinginmychurch,walkingupanddowntheaislewhentheSpiritofGodtoldme,“Thisisit!”

ItsuddenlydawnedonmethatIwaswalkinginthestepsofthepastorthatIhadwatchedand listened to for years. I was teaching and preaching like he did. I was pastoring achurchwhichwasaslargeasIhadseenonthevideotape.Yousee,whentheanointingisonyou,youwilldocertainspecificthingsinyourministry.

Doyouwanttohaveabigchurch?Catchtheanointingthatisonsomeonewhohasabigchurch.Do youwant to be an evangelist?Look around and seewhoGod is using andfollowthatperson.Listentohistapesandreadhisbooks.Theanointingwillfallonyouoneday.

TheSpecificityoftheAnointingTheanointingislikeyourgun.Itdoescertainspecificthings.Youjusthavetouseitanddirect itwhereyouwant to.Everyanointinghasawayofworking itselfout toachievespecificresults.TheanointingthatwasonElijahmadehimdocertainthings.

Do you want to be a teacher of theWord? Then follow someone who has a teachinganointing. The anointing is very specific. The healing anointing is different from theteachinganointingwhichisalsodifferentfromthepastoralanointing.

Elijahmiraculously caused three years of drought.Hemultiplied themeal and oil of awidow, caused the resurrectionof ayoungboy and called fire fromHeaven.Elishadidsimilar things. He also caused years of drought, performed healings, and multiplied awidow’s oil. It is interesting to note that Elisha did exactly twice asmanymiracles asElijah did. Elijah did sixteenmiracles and Elisha did thirty-twomiracles! Elisha had adoubleportionofElijah’sanointing.

Theanointingisaveryspecificsubstancethatmakesyouachievecertainthings.Youcandesire a specific minister’s anointing.God may have put it in your heart to achievecertainthingsintheministry.ElishawentforElijah’sanointingwithoutanyapologiestoanyone.

Ifyoucatchtheanointingwhichisoncertainperson,youwilldosimilarthingsbecauseitisthesameanointing.

JohntheBaptistalsocarriedElijah’sanointing.ThereweremanysimilaritiesbetweentheministryofJohn theBaptistandElijah’sministry.Bothof themhaddramaticministriesand both of them confronted kings. Both of these men were familiar with deserts andsolitude.Theyworethesametypeofgarmentsandlivedsimply.Bothofthemhadtheirministriesterminatedbyqueens.

BenefitfromtheTapesInordertogainthemaximumbenefitfromatape,youmust listentoitwithavisionofeventuallyreceivinganimpartationoftheanointing.Listentothesametapeseveraltimes.In my experience, this is different from listening to many different tapes of the sameminister.WhenyouwanttogettoLevelF,asdescribedinthenextchapter,staywiththetapes you enjoy. Listen to tapes unconsciously and listen to them whilst praying andfasting.AllowyourselftoreceivethegiftofGodthatisministeringtoyou.Youmustbeopen to themanofGodwho isministering.Youmust receivehimwithadmirationandwithlove;otherwise,youwillgetnothingfromhimorthroughhim.

Chapter6-TheArtofPreachingandtheAnointingYou can learn how to preach and teach by listening to tapes. I have not been toBibleschoolanddidnothavetheprivilegeofbeingtaughthowtodeliverasermon.Buttherearemanywaysoflearningthesamething.

WhenIwaspractisingmedicine,Ilearntalittlephrasefromthesurgicaldepartment.Thephraseis,“Watchone,assistoneanddoone.”Whatdoesthismean?Itmeansthatifyouwanttolearnhowtoperformsurgery,youwatchoneoperation,assistone,andthenyouactuallyattemptoneyourself.

Everyonecanlearnhowtopreachbylisteningtopreaching.Infact,thebestthingyoucandoistolistentootherministersallthetime.TheprophetDanielstudiedwhattheprophetJeremiahhadtaught.TheprophetJeremiahministeredfrom685-616B.C.andtheprophetDanieltookoverfrom616-536B.C.DanielsaidveryclearlythatheknewwhatheknewbystudyingthebookswrittenbyJeremiah.Whyareyouafraidtolearnfromsomebody?EvenagreatmanlikeDanielwasblessedbyanotherprophet–Jeremiah.

Inthefirstyearofhisreign,IDanielunderstoodbybooksthenumberoftheyears,whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he wouldaccomplishseventyyearsinthedesolationsofJerusalem.

Open up your heart and become a learner and receiver. After all, we all learn fromsomewhere.It is the insecure peoplewho are afraid to show that they learntwhattheyknowfromsomewhere!BecomesoreceptivethatyoureceivetheknowledgeoftheWord!Openyourspiritsothatyoulearnhowtopreachyourself!Openyourheartsothatyoureceivetheanointing!

LevelsofReceptivityIwantyoutonoticetheselevelsofreceptivitythatIhavelistedbelowandaskyourselfwhereyoufit!

LevelA:TheWordhasnoimpact.Youdonotunderstandthemessage.Youprobablydidnotevenlikethemessage.

LevelB:TheWord has an impact on you.You are excited and think that it is a goodmessage.However, youonly retain about elevenpercent ofwhatwaspreached.This isusuallywhathappenswhenapersonlistenstoatapeonlyonce.

LevelC:YouabsorbtheWordevenfurtherbutcannotreproducethemessage.

LevelD:YouabsorbtheWordsomuchthatyoucanreproducethemessage.

LevelE:Youbegintolearnhowtopreachandteachinthesameanointedmanner.

LevelF:You absorb theWord and at the same timebegin to absorb the anointing andSpiritofthemessage.

Level G: At this level, the transfer of an entire ministry gift takes place. Often ananointingwhichisonthespeakeristransferredtoyou.LikeJohntheBaptistandElijah,similarities emerge between your ministries because the same anointing has beentransferred.

NoticeTheseSignsThesearesignsthatyouareontheroadtocatchingtheanointing.

1. You are able to follow the trend of the message; even when it is confusing anddisorderly.

2.Youreceiveadditionallessonsthatarenotthemainmessage.

Thisisanimportantsignifyouarecatchingtheanointingontheminister.Youbegintounderstand the mind and the heart of the person you are listening to. Most of theseadditional lessons you receive may be unrelated to the topic that is being taught. Youbegin to learn so many little things which may include a principled character, how tospeak,howtoanalyzeScriptureandhowtoovercomeproblems.

3.Youunconsciouslybegintousecertainphrasesandpointsinthesemessages.

Unknowntoyou,youbegintowalkandthinklikethepersonyouarelisteningto.

4.Youareabletoministerthemessagewiththesameresults.

Forinstancechurchgrowth,miracles,peoplecommentingthattheywereblessed,peoplebuyingyour tapesandpeoplewanting tohearpart twoandpart threeofyourmessage.Thisisdifferentfromdryimitation,whenyoubecomeanexactreplicateofwhatyouhear,butdonotgetthesameresults.

AvoidTheseMistakesIamnotteachingyounottostudytheBibleforyourself.IamnotteachingyoutoneglectpersonalBiblestudy.Thatisagreatmistake!IamanavidlisteneroftapesbutIstudytheWordofGodeveryday.Ihaveapersonalquiettimeeveryday.Manyofmymess

AvoidthemistakeofnotreadingtheBibleanddoingBiblestudyforyourself.

Avoidthemistakeofthinkingthatit isamanthatisgoingtoanointyou.It isGodwhoanointsyouthroughaman.

Avoidthemistakeofonlylisteningtotapeswhenyouaregoingtopreach.Listentotapesallofthetimewhetheryouaregoingtopreachornot.Ilistentotapesallthetime.

Avoidthemistakeofnotdoingfurtherstudyonsubjectsortapesyoulistento.

Avoid themistake of preaching about things you do not practise.Do not preach aboutthingsthatyoudonotunderstandorbelievein(Ezra7:10).

Avoid themistake of simply imitating and copying someonewithout understanding thewholemysteryofcatchingtheanointingthroughsoakingintheWord.

Avoidthemistakeofleavingoutthevideodimension.Thevideodimensionhelpsyoutocatchthingsthatyoucannotcatchonanaudiotape:posture,attireandgestures.Soakinginvideotapes,helpsyoutolearnhowtoministertheSpiritandtoministerwithsignsandwonders.

IgnoretheIgnoramusesListening to tapes over and over does not mean that you are engaging in mindlessmemorization.Somepeoplecallthis,“chewandpour.”IjustlaughtomyselfwhenIhearsuchcomments.

Themostdifficulttimeformeinthemedicalschoolwasduringthesecondyear.Duringthesecondyearwehadtostudyphysiology,anatomyandbiochemistry.

OfthesethreesubjectsIfoundbiochemistrythemostdifficultbecauseitinvolvedalotoftediousmemorization.

Iamnotteachingyoutobecomeacopycat.Iamteachingyouhowtocatchtheanointing.Iamteachingyoutowalkinthestepsofanointedpeople.Whenayounggirlislearninghowtocook,sheistaughttofollowasimpleroutine.Asshedoesthisoverandover,sheis able to cook the food as well as her mother. With time she will develop her ownvariationsandstyle.Wouldyoucallthatdaughteramindlesscopycat?Wouldyousaythatsheisengaginginsenselessmemorization?Certainlynot!Sheisahumblelearner.

WhatIsaClone?Dearfriend,thedevilwantstokeepyoufromtheanointing.Ihaveheardpeoplespeakingsarcasticallyabout thismethodofcatching theanointing.Someoneoncesaid that Iwasproducingclones.Whatisaclone?WhydosomepeopletrytoconfuseGod’ssheepwithcleversoundingphrases?Quitefrankly,Iwouldratherhearmydogsbarkinthemorningthantolistentosuchstories!

Whenadoctor is learning tobeasurgeon,hehas tocloselyobservewhathisprofessordoes.Thenheassistshisprofessor several times.Soonhegetsanopportunity todo theprocedurehimself.Hegingerlyfollowstheprocedurethathehasseenhisprofessordo.Hemaymakeafewmistakes,butsoonhecanperformtheoperationperfectly.Ifyouwatchthisnewsurgeonclosely,youwillrealizethatheisdoingexactlywhathisprofessordoes.Withtime,hedevelopshisownadditionsorimprovementstowhathehaslearnt.Hastheprofessorproducedaclone?Certainlynot!Hehastrainedanothercompetentsurgeon.

When Paul was training Timothy for theministry, hewrote to him and said, “My sonpreachthesamethings thatIhavepreachedtoyou.Spendtimesharingthesamethingswiththefaithfulbrethrenthatyouhave.”

Thoutherefore,myson,bestronginthegracethatisinChristJesus.Andthethingsthatthouhastheardofmeamongmanywitnesses,thesamecommitthoutofaithfulmen,whoshallbeabletoteachothersalso.

Paul toldTimothytopreachthesamethingthathehadpreached.WasPaulproducingamindlessclone?Watchoutforpeoplewhotrytoredescribegodlythingsandmakethemappearstupid.

Whenyou“soakin”tapesmanygoodthingshappentoyou.Youlearnhowtopreachandyoucatchtheanointing.Itisfunnyhowsomepeopleseethings.Someoneoncesaidthathedidnotwant to listen to tapesbecausehedidnotwant to“losehispersonality”.How would you lose your personality by exposing yourself to the anointing and theinfluencethatcomesfromspecialmenofGod?

When thechoir inmychurchsingsasongbyAndraeCrouchor someoneelse,areyoutellingme that they have lost their personality?Do you know that theywould have torehearsethesongforseveralhoursinordertogetitjustright?Astheysoakinthismusicoverandoverandastheytrytodoexactlywhattheyarehearing,areyoutellingmethat

theyarelosingtheirpersonalities?AsIsaidearlier,Ipreferlisteningtomydogsbarkinthemorning to listening tosuchcomments!RememberwhatPaulsaid to theCorinthianChristians;hetoldthemtofollowhim!

Chapter7“Aman”and“Tsalach”Andtheyroseearlyinthemorning,andwentforthintothewildernessofTekoa:andas they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and yeinhabitantsofJerusalem;Believe in theLordyourGod,soshallyebeestablished;believehisprophets,soshallyeprosper.

InthisfamousScripture,youfindJehoshaphat,achurchmember,exhortingtherestofthecongregationtobelieveinGodaswellasinthemanofGod.Thisfamousspeechteachesus a very great lesson for the ministry. In the first part of the Scripture, there is aprediction that believing in God will lead to establishment. In the second part of theScripture,thepromiseisthatbelievingintheprophetwillleadtoprosperity.

Yousee,Jehoshaphatwasfacedwithaverydifficultsituation.Severalkingswereabouttoattackhimandhisnationwasincrisis.Hehadcalledforaprayermeeting;muchprayerhad been offered to the Lord. At the end of the prayer meeting, one of the pastors(ReverendJahaziel)gaveaprophecy.Heprophesiedthattheyweregoingtowinthewar.Hepredicted thatGodwasgoing to fight for themand that everythingwasgoing tobeokay.Becauseofthis,Jehosophatmadethechoirmarchinfrontofthearmy.Thatwasaverydangerousmove!ButhebelievedinbothGodandtheprophet–anditpaidoff!Attheendofitall,Jehoshaphatandhisfollowershadmoreblessingsthantheycouldcarryaway.Godblessedthemwithmorethantheycouldcarry!

Andwhen Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, theyfound among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and preciousjewels,whichtheystrippedoffforthemselves,morethantheycouldcarryaway:andtheywerethreedaysingatheringofthespoil,itwassomuch.

TheHebrewwordtranslated“established”in2Chronicles20:20istheword“Aman”.Itmeans“tonurture”,“tofosterasaparent”,“tobuildup”and“tonurse”.ThisteachesusthatasyoubelieveinGod,youwillbenurturedandnursedbyGod.Hewillbuildyouupinthefaithandyouwillreceiveastrongfoundationthatonlyaparentcangive.ButthisScripturegoesonandsaystobelieveintheprophetsandyouwill“prosper”.TheHebrewwordtranslated“prosper”istheword“Tsalach”.Itmeans“topushforward”,“togoover”,

“to come mightily” and “to break out!” “Aman” and “Tsalach” are two very differentexperiencesintheministry.

GodwillnurtureyouandbuildyouupforHiswork.Hewillnurseyoulikeababyinacradle.Hewillfosteryoulikeaparentandencourageyouuntilyouarewelldeveloped.BUTTHEN,YOUNEEDAPUSHFORWARDINTHEMINISTRY.

Youneed tocomemightily inministry.Youneed tobreakout into the fullnessofyourcalling.Godwantsyoutogoovereverywallandobstacleinyourlifeandministry.Thequestionis,“Howwillyoureceivethispushforwardintoministry?”AfteryouhavebeennurturedandfosteredbyAlmightyGod,whatisthekeytocomingmightilytothefrontoftheministrylines?ThekeyistobelieveinthemanofGod.

SomepeoplehavedifficultyinbelievinginthemanofGod.Theysay,“IcanbelieveinGod,butIcan’t trust thesemen.”Theysay,“Icannotputmytrust in thearmofflesh.”Whatyoumustrealizeisthatyouarenotputtingyourtrustinahumanbeing,perse.Thesafetycatch in thisScripture is thatyouaresupposed tobelieveboth inGodand in themanofGod.Onewithouttheotherwillnotgetyouwhereyouneedtogo.

BelievinginGodwithoutbelievinginhisprophetswillhelpyoutobenicelybuiltupinChrist.Butyouwillnothavethepushforwardthatyouneed.BelievinginthemanofGodwithoutbelieving inGod is alsoverydangerous!Youcould easilymake amistake andfollowtheerrorsofahumanbeing.Thatiswhythetwogotogether!

Asyoureadthisbook,myprayeristhatyouwouldopenyourselfuptotheblessingsof“Tsalach”.Thisistheblessingofbeingpushedforwardmightilyintheministry.

Astheyearswentby,IencounteredmenofGodwhohadanimpactonmylife.WithoutrealizingwhatIwasdoing,IbegantofollowministerslikeKennethHagin,FredPriceandDavidYonggiCho.IhavecloselyfollowedandbelievedintheministriesandinstructionsofsuchmenofGodandithaspushedmeforwardinministry.Thatisthereasonwhyyouarereadingthisbooknow!

Theministriesofmanypeopleendupnowherebecause they refuse togetconnected toGod throughamanofGod. InGhana,wehave theAkosomboDam,builton theVolta

lake(theworld’slargestman-madelake),asourmajorsourceofelectricity.

Icanassureyouthatitgeneratesalotofpower.IfIwanttogetconnectedtothatpower,IdonothavetotraveltoAkosombo.AllIhavetodoistoplugintoanearbysocket.

Thesocketnearby,isthemanofGodonthisearthwhoyoucanrelatewith.ByconnectingtohimyouwillbeconnectingtoGodwhois‘faraway’inHeaven.Plugintothesocketandyouwillbeconnectedtoamazingpower!PlugintothemanofGodandyouwillbestartled to find that you are actually connected to incredible power itself. Lookaroundandseeallthose“unimpressive”socketsaroundyou.Lookaroundyouandsee all the “unimpressive”men ofGod.Make a connection toGod through his chosenvessels.Youcandothatbylisteningtotheirtapes,watchingtheirvideotapesandreadingtheir books. Do not make the mistake of rejecting this great opportunity to be pushedforwardintheministry.

Jesus was rejected by the people of his hometown. They could not believe that thisunimpressivecarpenterwasthemanofGodfortheirlives.WhenJesustoldthemthathewasanointedtohealandpreach,theywereoffendedandangry.Theythrusthimoutofthecity.

TheSpiritoftheLordisuponme,becausehehathanointedmetopreachthegospeltothepoor;hehathsentmetohealthebrokenhearted,topreachdeliverancetothecaptives,andrecoveringofsighttotheblind,tosetatlibertythemthatarebruised,Andalltheyinthesynagogue,whentheyheardthesethings,werefilledwithwrath,Androseup,and thrusthimoutof thecity,and ledhimunto thebrowof thehillwhereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. OtherswhobelievedinJesusreceivedhimandweregreatlyblessedbyhisministry.Theyreceivedmightybreakthroughsfortheirlivesandministries.

WhenPeter,JamesandJohnbeganministeringintheBookofActs,manypeoplenoticedthat theywere heavily anointed. They began to ask themselves, “Who are these youngmenwhohavecomemightilyinministry?”,“Whoaretheseguyswhohavepushedtotheforefrontofministry in Jerusalem?”,“Wheredid theygetananointing topreachand tohealthesick?”

Nowwhen they saw theboldness ofPeter andJohn, andperceived that theywereunlearnedandignorantmen,theymarvelled;andtheytookknowledgeofthem,thattheyhadbeenwithJesus.

Iseeyoubeingpushedforwardinministry!Iseeyoucomingmightilyintotheforefrontof ministry in your city! I see you going over every obstacle and difficulty in yourministry!Tap intoyourmanofGod!“Soak in” the tapesand“soak in” thebooks!Theanointingisyoursforthetaking!YouarebreakingoutintofruitfulnessandsuccessintheministryoftheLordJesusChrist!

HeavenlyFather,IprayforeveryyoungmanandwomanwhodesirestheanointingoftheHolySpirit.Iprayforeverypastorintheministry.Ipraythatyouwouldopentheireyesof understanding that theymay see the truth that is inYourHolyWord. Pour out yourpower and yourSpirit on theministers of this end-timeharvest.OLord,we need youranointingmore thaneverbefore.Asyourpeople tap into themenofGodthatyouhavegiven tous,mayaspiritofhumilityandreceptivityengulf them.Maypreciousmantlesfall on those servants who desire to walk in a greater level of anointing. Afteranhourortwoheneededexercise,sohealightedatthenextstopandstrolleddownthe road,with little ideawherehewas except that hewas stillwithin thebus routesofLondon.Asheenjoyedthewalk,asigninformedhimthatthisareawascalledClapham.Thenamemeantnothingtohimandhewalkedonuntilhefoundhimselfoutsideahousewith a wooden fence around it and on it a board bearing the name, Principal GeorgeJeffreys.

Hestoppedinhistracksandlookedatthenameagain.Itwasthereclearenough,butno;hedismissedit,itcouldnotbe.

Onlyafewweeksearlier,hehadbeenbrowsingthroughthebooksinthecollegelibrarywhen he chanced upon ‘Healing Rays’ by George Jeffreys. His interest was quicklyarousedashescannedthroughthecontents.

Itwasabalancedscripturalexpositiononthesubjectofdivinehealing.Thefinalchapterwas full of testimonies of miracles in the ministry of George Jeffreys which werewitnessed by huge congregations in the largest halls throughout the British Isles. ThefounderandleaderoftheElimFoursquareGospelAlliance,hehadclearlybeenagreatlyanointedevangelist.

Reinhardhadbeenabsorbed,buthenotedthatthemiraclesmostlyoccurredinthe1920s.Hepresumedthatthisgreatevangelistmustbedead,andwhenhehadleftcollege,GeorgeJeffreyshadbeenfarfromhisthoughts.

Butnowhewondered.Wasitpossiblethatthisgreatevangelistwasstillaliveandlivedhere?Hehadalmostdecidedthatitwasnonsenseeventothinkso,whentheHolySpiritseemedtowhisperinhisheart,‘Whydon’tyoufindout?’

Contrarytowhatpeoplemaythinkwhentheyseehiminactiononaplatform,Reinhardisnotonetorushintothings;helikestothinkbeforeheacts.Butatonceheknewhemustknowthetruth.

Hewentuptothefrontdoorandrangthebell.Justwhenhewasbeginningtothinkthattherewasnoonein,awomanopenedthedoor.

‘Excuseme,’heasked,‘butIsawthenameplateandwonderedisthisthehomeofGeorgeJeffreysthemightyevangelistwhoreachedawholenation?’

‘Yesitisthesameman,’shereplied.

‘Please,doyouthinkthatImayseehim?IhavejustfinishedatBibleCollegeandIamonmywayhometoGermany.’

Her replywas anunpromising ‘No’ andwith that she started to close thedoor,when avoiceechoedfromwithin,‘Lethimcomein.’

InwentthewonderingReinhardandthere,comingdownthestairs,wasthefrailfigureofan elderly man. In a deep husky voice, he greeted Reinhard and asked him what hewanted.Reinhardexplainedhowhehad just finishedBibleCollegeand thecallofGodwasonhislifetobeamissionaryinAfrica.

He was led into one of the rooms, and invited to sit down. George Jeffreys sat downoppositehimonacouchandbegantoaskReinhardlotsofquestionsabouthimself.

ThefactthatReinhardhadbeenatcollegeinWaleshelpedtoopentheconversationwiththis Welsh preacher whose roots were in the Great Revival there in 1904, and theconversation ignitedwith the fireof a spiritual rapportwhichobliterated thegenerationgap.Itwasameetingoftwokindredsoulswithamutualpassionforevangelism.OnewhowasreckonedbymanytobethegreatestBritishevangelistofthiscentury,whoknewhewascomingtotheendofhislife.TheotheraneageryoungmanwhoknewthatGodhadgivenhimtheministryofanevangelist,takingupthemantleofhisministry.

Suddenlytheoldmanslidontohisknees,pullingReinharddownwithhim.ThegloryofGodcameonReinhard asGeorge Jeffreys laidhishandsuponhisheadandprayed forhim.ThetiredbutstilleloquentvoicegainedinstrengthastheoldWelshrevivalistpouredout his soul in prayer for the raw and eager youngmanwhomGodhadbrought to hishouseforhimtobless.HewhohadspenthislifebeseechingsinnerstoreceiveChristwasagainseekingthefaceofGodforthelost,butthroughtheministryofthisyoungGermankneelingwithhim.

DidGod giveGeorge Jeffreys a glimpse into the futureministry ofReinhardBonnke?Washeallowedaforesightofthetremendousexpansionoftherevivalwhichwasjustathand?Wecannotknow,butwhenReinhardfinallyrosefromhisknees,heknewthathehad received something powerful from God. He left the house ‘dazed’ at what hadhappenedasthehouse-keeperclosedthedoorbehindhim.

Hecouldnottakeitallin.HehadnotevenhadGeorgeJeffreysonhismind,yetinacityofaroundtenmillionpeopleGodhadbroughthimtotheman’sdoor.Themorehethoughtabout it themorehe thankedGod for so leadinghim.Hecaught thenight train for theChannelferryandtravelledbackviaBelgiumtohishomeinGermany.HermannandMetawere so glad to have their son home again and they all had much to talk about, butReinharddidnotmentionhismeetingwiththegreatevangelist.

A few weeks later, Herman said, ‘Reinhard, I have just received news that GeorgeJeffreys,thefamousevangelist,hasdied.’

Reinhardwasstunned. ‘Thatcannotbe,surely?Isawhimafewweeksagoonmywayhome.’Thenhesharedwithhisfatherthestoryofthatwonderfulmeeting.

Inthelightofthegreatman’sdeaththeencounterwasseentobeevenmoreremarkable.

Twenty-five years later, in August 1986, Reinhard Bonnke conducted a campaign inBlantyre,Malawi,namedafterthebirthplaceinScotlandofDavidLivingstone,thegreatAfricamissionaryexplorer.Godsoownedtheministryofhisservantthatbytheclosingservice, the crowds attending had grown to over 150,000. Later on in the year anothercampaign followed in Lilongwe, and again many thousands came to hear the gospelmessage.ItwasduringthistimethatReinhardwasdeeplymovedbycertainstirringwordswrittenbyDavidLivingstoneoveracenturybeforein1853wheninthatsameregion:

Future missionaries will be rewarded by conversions for every sermon. We are theirpioneers and helpers. Let them not forget the watchmen of the night, we whoworkedwhen allwas gloom and no evidence of success in theway of conversion cheered ourpath.Theywilldoubtlesshavemorelightthanwe,butweservedourMasterearnestlyandproclaimedthesamegospelastheywilldo.

More than once asReinhard blazed acrossAfrica, theHolySpirit remindedhimof theimmeasurabledebtheowedtothemany‘watchmenofthenight’inwhosestepshewastreading.Most of them likeLivingstonewere longdead, but asScripture saysofAbel,they‘byfaithstillspeak’.However,intheprovidenceofGodhehadbeenallowedtomeetoneortwospecialwatchmenofthetwentiethcentury.

Itwasnotuntilhewasprayingaboutthemomentousdecisiontomovethecentreofhisoperations from Africa to Frankfurt in Germany that the Holy Spirit brought it veryspeciallytohisattention.Suddenlyeverythingconnected.Godgavehimanewrealisationabout howwe build on the peoplewho have gone on before us, thosewatchmenwhofaithfullycarriedthetorchoftruthintheirgeneration,defiedthedarkness,andhandedonthebatontothosecomingafterwhowerereadytorespondtothecallofGod;peoplesuchasDavidLivingstone,ReesHowellsandGeorgeJeffreys,andheknewthatinsomewayGodhadhelpedhimtograspabaton.Thegreatnessoftheresponsiblityweighedheavilyuponhim.Hemustnotfail.

Themorehe thoughtbackover thatmeetingwithGeorge Jeffreys themorehe realisedhowGod had planned it; not only the amazing timing of it, so close to the end of theevangelist’slife;notonlyasaGermanwhosenationhadbeenatwarwithBritainonlyafewyearsbefore;notonlyonthedayhehadfinishedatcollege;butalsowithoneofthegreatest evangelists of this century. God had confirmed his calling and this specialexperienceseemedtocoverhimwithanaddedmantlingofhispower.

Considering the incident under the direction of the Holy Sprit strengthened him andcaused him to thank God for his guidance, but he was also enabled to keep it all inperspective.Heknewthateven thegreatGeorgeJeffreyshadmademistakeswhichhadalmost certainly limited his effectiveness in his later years. Nothing could ever detractfromwhat the evangelist had achieved, but sadly he had become involved in a disputeoverchurchgovernmentwhichhadultimatelycauseddivisionintheElimmovement,andhadalsobeentakenupwithanotherunprofitablediversionwhichlednowhereexcepttomorecontroversy.Itwasasombrelesson.Ifsogreatamancouldmakemistakeswhichmarred his ministry, then what hopes for him? He prayed that God would continue todirecthispathsanddeliverhimfromeverbeingdivertedfromevangelism.

NoneofGod’sservants is superhuman,andReinhard isaware thatonedaypeoplemaygloatoverhismistakesalso.WearewhatwearebythegraceofGod.Anincidentwhichcould easily have puffed him up has served to keep him humbly aware of his need towatchandpray.Thepathofasuccessfulevangelistisfullofpitfalls.

KennethHaginandSmithWigglesworthThe following is an excerpt from Kenneth E. Hagin’s book “Understanding theAnointing”.Noticehowtheanointingflowsfromonegreatmantoanother.2Frequently,whensomegreatmanorwomanofGodpassesoffthescenelikeElijahdid,youwillhearpreacherssay,“Iwonderuponwhomhismantlewillfall?”We’veallheardthatsaid.Butjustbecausewe’veheardsomethingsaidandhaverepeateditoftendoesn’tmakeitso!Somethingisn’tsojustbecausewethoughtitso.

IwantyoutoseesomethingherethatcanhinderyoufromenteringintotheblessingsGodwantsyoutohave.

In1947,IpickedupareligiousperiodicalandreadthatSmithWigglesworthhadgonetobewiththeLordatage87.

Ifeltagreatloss.IrememberIwentintomychurchandfellacrossthealtar.Ididn’tknowthemanpersonallybut I had readabouthimconstantly, actuallywearinghisbooksoutuntilsomethingfromhimrubbedoffonme.

Youfeelanemptiness-avacuum-whenamanofGodofthatcaliberleaves-amanwhohadhad23peopleraisedfromthedeadinhisministry.Peopleasked,“Iwonderonwhomhismantlewillfall?”

Inmyignorance,Itoothoughtthatthemantleistheanointing,anditwouldfallatrandomonsomebody.Butthat’snotcorrect.Themantlesymbolizestheanointing…

Aswesawearlier,yougetthesameanointingbyassociation,environment,andinfluence.Nodoubtyou’llbeledoftheLordtofollowcertainministries,buttherearecertainthingsthatministersneedtobewarnedaboutinthisregard.I’minmy49thyearofministry.Youstumbleuponafewthingsin49years.

Ifyouaregoingtofollowsomebody,besuretheyarefollowingtheLord.Iftheygetoffalittle-justalittle-don’tfollowthat.

Learnfaithfromthem,butdon’tfollowthemtooclosely.Rememberthesethreethings:

First,havethecallofGodonyourlife.

Second,followtheLordJesus-He’stheHeadoftheChurch-very,veryclosely.

Third, if you want the same type of ministry someone else has, follow that ministryclosely.Ifthedesireforitisinyourheart,it’susuallybecauseGodputitthere.Butthatmantlewillnotfallonyouautomatically,likeripecherriesoffatree.

BennyHinnandKathrynKhulmanBennyHinn is another example of someonewhohas caught the anointing. In his book“GoodMorning,HolySpirit”,hesharesabouthowhereceivedanimpartationintohislifethrough the ministry of Kathryn Khulman. He describes how he attended a KathrynKhulmanmiracleserviceandhowtheHolySpirittouchedhimatthatmeeting.

InScripture,thesimilaritiesbetweentheministriesofElijahandElishawereindicativeofthesimilarityoftheanointingontheirlives.Thisiswhatgivesustheauthoritytoexaminethesimilaritiesbetweendifferentministriestoday.ElishaaskedforadoubleportionoftheanointingthatwasonElijahandhegot it.Consequently,ElijahdidsixteenmiraclesbutElishaperformed thirty-two!Elishaperformedexactly twiceasmanymiraclesasElijahdidandthisisbecausehehadadoubleportionofElijah’sanointing.Themiraclesofthetwoministerswerealsosimilar.Bothofthemwereinvolvedindeclaringfaminesintheircommunities. Both of them experienced the miracle of a young boy being resurrectedfrom the dead. At one point in theirministry, Elijah and Elishawere both involved indryingup theRiverJordan.Another importantsimilarity is that theybothgaveaccuratepropheticutterances,whichcametopass.

MyobservationoftheministryofBennyHinnleavesmewithnodoubtthathehasindeedreceivedsomethingthroughtheministryofKathrynKhulman.Simplyput,IbelievethatBenny Hinn caught the anointing that was on Kathryn Khulman. There are many

similarities between the ministries of Benny Hinn and Kathryn Khulman. ThesesimilaritiesareproofthatthesamekindofmantlewhichwasonKathrynKhulmanisnowonBennyHinn.

The large crowdswhichgather atBennyHinn’smiracle services are reminiscentof thekindsofaudiencesthatKathrynKhulmanoncedrew.ThepeculiarhealinganointingthatgivesrisetoallkindsofamazingmiraclesisalsocharacteristicofbothBennyHinnandKathryn Khulman. The unusual and tangible presence of the Holy Spirit that isexperiencedinBennyHinn’sservicesisalsoamarkoftheKathrynKhulmananointing.The phenomenon of several people falling under the power during services is also adistinctivefeatureofboththeKhulmanandHinnministries.AsIsaid, thesesimilaritiesareproof that the samekindofmantle thatwasonKathrynKhulman isnowonBennyHinn.

I amnot sharing these things so that you sit back and say; “Wow, Iwish IwasBennyHinn!”IamnotsharingthesethingsforyoutomarveloverthethingsgreatmenofGodhaveexperienced.Iamtryingtoshowyouaprinciplethatcanworkforyou.Youcanbeanointed! You can catch an anointing! You can also receive great spiritual gifts if youunderstandtheprinciplesthatgovernthereceivingofananointing.TheworkissomuchthatGodneedsseveralanointedpeopletogoforthwiththeWord.Idonotbelievethattheanointingisforaspecialfew.Itisforyouandmeifwearepreparedtopaytheprice!

T.L.OsborneandWilliamBranhamThe following isan interesting testimonyabouthowT.L.Osbornecaught theanointing.Noticehowtheanointingpassedonfromonegreatmantoanother.3ThemanwhocameclosesttocarvingoutauniqueministryduringtheearlyyearsoftherevivalwasayoungOklahomaevangelist,TommyL.Osborne. In theprocess,Osbornepioneeredmanynewtechniquesforindependentforeignevangelismandwontherespectof most of his contemporary evangelists.When the revival declined in the late 1950s,manyothers,ineffortstosurvive,followedthetrailsOsborneblazed.

One of thirteen children, Osborne was raised in the poverty of a depression farm inOklahoma where he learned a deep trust in God. In 1937, when he was fourteen, hebelievedthatGodspoketohimandtoldhimthathewouldpreach.Althoughhefinishedonly theeighthgrade,hebecameaminister in thesmallPentecostalChurchofGod. In1946, he spent a discouraging year in India as a missionary. He returned sick anddisappointed and settled into a small local church in McMinnville, Oregon. At bestOsborn’searlyyearsasaministerwerealimitedsuccess.

InOregon,adisillusionedTommyL.Osborneawaited thefatefularrivalof theWilliamBranhamparty in the summer of 1947.On the first night of theBranham campaign inPortland,Osborne’swifewasintheaudience.

DaisyOsborne,abrightandforcefulperson inherownright,persuadedherhusband toattendthenextevening.Osbornelaterwrote:

As IwatchedBrotherBranhamminister to the sick, Iwas especially captivated by thedeliverance of a little deaf-mute girl overwhomhe prayed thus: “Thoudeaf anddumbspirit,IadjuretheeinJesus’name,leavethechild,”andwhenhesnappedhisfingers,thegirl heard and spoke perfectly. When I witnessed this, there seemed to be a thousandvoicesspeakingtomeatonce,allinoneaccordsayingoverandover,“Youcandothat.”Outof this experience“wasbornauniquemissionaryministry thathas reached tensofthousandsforGod.”

NoticethetestimonyofBishopDavidOyedepo.HeisagreatmanofGodwhoisbearingmuchfruitintheKingdom.Thisishistestimonyinhisownwords.

4In1987,IwaswatchingavideoprogrammedwellingonamessagefromIsaiah53:1.

“Whohathbelievedourreport?andtowhomisthearmoftheLordrevealed?”

Myheartandeyesweregluedtotheprogramme.AsIwatchedandlistenedtothatcrusademessage,thepowerofGodwashittingmesohardthatIwasintears,therealoneinmyhouse!Iwenttobedinthatstate,andtherewassuchaquickeninginme.

Iroseupearly,wenttothelivingroom,andcriedout,“God,showmethesecret!”Andinthemidst of this experience, I heard amanwalk in andputHishandonmyback, andsomewaveswentthroughmyspine.Iexplodedintears.

The following Sunday, as I stood up to preach in church and I said, “Let’s welcomeourselves with this scripture…”, and we opened to Psalm 110, before I could finishreadingit,thepowerofGodcamedown!Therewasnofurtherpreaching.Therewereallmannerofhealings!

All manner! And that gave rise to “Pentecost Flames”, which was the stirring, devil-destroyinginvasionofKadunaState(NorthofNigeria).

Friends, the earlier you get exposed to this power, the better. There is power inWordencounter!UntilyouareaWord-loveryoudon’texperiencepower.ThegenuinesourceofpoweristheWord.

Acts10:44 records that, “WhilePeteryet spake thesewords, theHolyGhost fellonallthemwhichheardtheword.”

If you are intoprayers for power andyou also embrace theWord for thepower, you’llneverrundry.

Aswordsarespoken,thereisanimpartationthattakesplace.Aspropheticutterancesaremade,thereisanimpartationthattakesplace.

InEzekiel2:2,prophetEzekielsaid,“Andthespiritenteredintomewhenhespakeuntome…”Asyouhearanointedwords,don’tonlyexpecttogetinsight,expecttoencounterimpartationalso.

In1986,IwasinameetinginTulsa,whereRev.KennethE.Haginwasministeringunderthe anointing of the Holy Spirit. I sat down somewhere afar off, and while he was

speaking,Isawhisfacetransfigured(Idon’tknowhowmanypeoplesawthat),andthereand then, Ihadanencounter.Myheartexploded,and Ibegan to sobopenly.TheSpiritenteredintomeandchangedtheentirecourseofmyministry!

Before then, Iused topreach jumpingallover theplaceandsweating.But thatday, theSpirit entered into me, and the serenity of Kenneth Hagin’s style of ministration wasimpartedtomeinstantly!

When you present your heart as a tablet, you don’t only receive insight, but you alsoreceiveanimpartationthatwillenabletheinsighttoproduce.

“…noprophecyof the scripture is of anyprivate interpretation…butholymenofGodspakeastheyweremovedbytheHolyGhost.”

Sowhen theWord isbeingspoken,youarenot justencountering insights,youarealsoencounteringtheimpartationoftheSpiritthatgatheredit.

Don’tmakelightanymorethetimeyouspendlisteningtoanointedteachersandpreachersof theWord. As you listen and hear, don’t only expect to receive insight, expect andprepareyourhearttoencounterthepowerofGodaswell.

Nothingismoreauthenticthanthatwhichcomesdirectfromsource.

“…formymouthithadcommanded,andhisspiritithathgatheredthem”(Isaiah34:16).

ManyhaveencounteredpowerthroughthespokenWordinmanyforms-audioandvideotapes, television, radio, etc. People have encountered the baptism of fresh oil as theylistenedtothespokenWord.

OnceIwaswatchingArchbishopBensonIdahosaonavideotapeandforthefirsttimeinmylife,anunseenguestwalkeduptome.Hisfootstepswereaudibletome.Andasheputhis hands on my back, something went through me. That was when the anointing formiracleswasreleaseduponme.Eversincethen,IseediseaseasfakeandIseetheoneswhosympathizewith it as ignorant. I see thatyoucanbewell if it isyourdesire tobewell.

JohnOsteen(LakewoodChurch)andtheOsbornesJohnOsteenwas thepastorof theLakewoodChurch,oneof the largestchurches in theworld.Noticewhathesaidaboutlisteningtotapes.Hedidn’tmindsoakinginthetapesofothergreatmen.Allhewantedwastocatchtheanointing.5WhenyoutalkaboutDaisy,youtalkaboutT.L.WhenyoutalkaboutT.L.youtalkaboutDaisy. They are inseparable-always have been. Only heaven will record how manyministersarepreachingthegospeltodaybecauseofthem.

Ifeelsoblessedtohaveknownthemboth.WhenIfirstheardabouttheOsbornes,Ireadtheirbook,“HealingtheSickandCastingoutDevils”.Isaid,“Imustfindthiscouple.”IweptwhenIsawthepicturesofthemultitudesandofthemiracles.

As a Baptist minister who had just received the baptism of the HolyGhost, I had notbelieved that these things couldhappen inourday. I pondered: are thesemiracles real?

HaveIbeenleftout?

IrefusedtoquituntilIgotintouchwiththeObsornes.Theyletmeintotheirlives.IwasdeterminedtodosomethingformygenerationbutIdidn’tknowhowtogoaboutit.

ButthiswomanandthismantookmeundertheirwingsandtaughtmehownottopreachaboutJesusbuttopreachJESUS.DaisyandT.L.willhaveapartinallthatweeverdoatLakewoodChurchtoreachthenationsoftheworldforChrist.

They invitedme toattendoneof theircrusades.Theybroughtme to theplatform tositwith them. They put their arms aroundme and let me look right into the faces of thepeoplewhohadreceivedmiracles.

Imean,theymademestandrightthereandseethosemiracles,oneafteranother.

T.L.andDaisysawthehungerinmyheartandtheyweredeterminedthatIshouldbeholdthegloryoftheLordinactionrighttherebeforemyeyes.AsIlistenedtotheirteaching,witnessedthosemiracles,andobservedthesimplicityoftheirministry,Iconcluded,“Thisisscriptural.Icandothis.”

Forthenexteightyears,Iwentallovertheworld,andGodconfirmedHiswordwhereverIpreached.ThenHespoketometocomebacktoHoustonandbuildLakewoodChurchasagreatworldoutreachcenter-abaseforreachingthenationswiththemessageandloveofJesus.

Not longago,Daisydidsomethingveryspecial forme.YoumaysmilewhenI tellyouwhatitwas,butitwasakindnessthatI’llnotforget.

IhadbeeninvolvedinLakewoodChurchandresponsibilitiesofpastoring.Ihadnotbeenoverseastoconductacrusadeforalongtime.Ihaddoneitduringthoseeightyears,butthenwhenGod ledme to buildLakewoodChurch as an “Oasis ofLove in aTroubledWorld”,IstayedintheUSAandgavemyself topastoralministry,withtheexceptionofoccasionalmissionarytripsabroad.

Wehaddecidedtoconductagreatgospelcampaignandleaders’seminaratNewDelhi,India,thecapitalofthatenormousandhistoricnation.Iwasgettingreadytogo.

IhadtalkedtoBrotherT.L.aboutit.Ihadn’tpreachedacrusadeoverseasinyearsandIhad actually become frightened, wondering if I was up to the task. That may soundfoolish,butitistrue.ItoldT.L.,“IthinkIhaveforgottenhowtodoit.”

Wehadregistered3,200pastorsandpreachersfromalloverIndiaplusthousandsofotherleaders,workersandstudents.Althoughitmaybehardtobelieve,Ifeltpanic.SoIcalledDaisy.Isaid,“Daisy,I’mgettingontheplanetomorrowandI’mafraidI’veforgottenhowto preach.” I said, “Would you FedEx me T.L.’s messages that he preached in yourHyderabad,India,crusade?”

Isaidtoher(withasmileinside,becausesheandT.L.knowmesowell):“I’mtellingyou,ifyoudon’tsendmethosetapes,I’mgoingtofailinthatbigcrusadeandseminaratNew

Delhi.Idon’tknowwhattodo.You’vegottohelpme.”

Ofcourse,SisterDaisylaughedandsaid,“PastorJohn,youknowhowtopreach.”Isaid,“SisterDaisy,sendmethosetapesorI’magoner!”Sheassuredme,“You’llhavetheminthemorning,Pastor.”

And she Federal Expressed to me the full set of T.L.’s preaching tapes from theirHyderabadCrusade,sending themovernight toHouston. I received thembefore leavingandIlistenedtothemallthewaytoIndia.AndwhatworksforT.L.andDaisyworksforJohnOsteenbecauseit’stheWordofGod!

Chapter9WhySomePeopleNeverCatchtheAnointingTherearesomepeoplewhoneverseemtocatchtheanointing.TheymaybenearanointedmenofGod,buttheyjustneverseemtotapintothatgloriousanointing.Inthischapter,Iwanttosharewithyou,somereasonswhycertainpeopleneverbecomeanointed.

When Jesus was on earth with us, he ministered under the power of the Holy Spirit.Somehow,thereweresomepeoplewhocouldneverreceivefromhim.TheywerecutofffromtheanointingbywhatIcall“humanbarriers”totheanointing.

Whywerepeopleunabletoreceive?Whycouldtheanointingnotflowintotheirlives?

TheBarriersThereareseveralbarriersthatpreventpeoplefromreceivingtheanointing.ThesebarriersareoftenthenaturalfeaturesandcharacteristicsofthemanofGod.Anyofthesefeaturescouldpresentabarrierthatcouldkeepyouawayfromtheanointing!

Thenames,sex, tribeandnationalityofapersonoftenpresent themselvesasbarriers tothe anointing. Some people cannot receive from a man of God because of his familybackground. Just themention of his family name puts them off. There are peoplewhocannot receive from a woman. There are people who cannot receive from people of acertaintribe.ThereareChristianswhocannotreceivefrompeopleofothernationalities.

TherearemanyAmericanswhowouldlookdownonabookwrittenbyanAfrican.Theywouldn’t even look twice at the material! I have interacted with ministers of differentnationalities.JustthementionofAfricaturnsthemoff!IhavenoticedthatsomeWesternChristiansseeAfricansasbeggars.NomatterthegiftofGodinthem,Africanpastorsareoftenseenas‘hewersofwood,drawersofwater,pushersofcarts,andcarriersofbags’!

ThisisunfortunatebecauseGodhasanointedmanyAfricanswithgiftsfor theworld.IfyouarethetypeofpersonwhocannotreceivefromanAfrican,youmaybeexcludedfromsomegreatblessings!

Oneofthecommonestbarrierstoreceivingtheanointingisthecolouroftheman’sskin.AlthoughGodmadeallmenequal,whitepeopleoftencannotreceivefromblackpeople.What I am saying is true and the proof of it is seen in churches all over America onSundaymornings.Sundaymorningisthemostsegregatedtimeoftheweek!Blackpeopleflock toblackchurchespastoredbyblackministers.Whitepeople rarelygo tochurchespastoredbyblackmenandviceversa.Whyisthis?Onceagainthehumanbarriersareat

work.ThemanofGodmayhavewhattheyneed,butbecause it ispackagedinthewrongcolour,theywillhavenothingtodowithit!

Whatisthedifferencebetweenawhitemanandablackman?Arewenotallmen?Onethingwhichprovesthatweareallthesameisthefactthatyoucantransfusebloodfromawhitemantoablackmanwithoutcausinganyproblems!

Weareall‘homosapiens’.Theonlydifferencebetweentheblackmanandthewhitemanis the amount of the pigmentmelanin found in the skin. Why should the amount ofmelanininmyskinpreventyoufromreceivingtheanointinguponmyministry?Coulditbe that you will miss out on the will of God because of the amount of melanin insomebody’sskin?

Ihave receivedmanyblessings inmy life throughpeopleofdifferent colours, raceandtribe. I have been tremendously blessed byGhanaianministers and also byAmericans.Godhastouchedmylifethroughblack,whiteandyellow-skinnedpeople.MylifecouldhavebeenverydifferentifIhadnotopeneduptoallofthesewonderfulvessels.

Ionceaskedsomeone“WhatcolouramI?”Hewasapreacherwho taught a loton the“blackman”.IwantedtofindoutwhatcategoryIfell into.Yousee,mylatefatherwasfromGhanaandmymotherisfromSwitzerland.SinceIamamixture,IwantedtoknowwhetherIwasseenasawhitepersonorablackperson!

Unfortunately, thisdearpastorplacedme inoneof these twocategories. Iwondered tomyselfwhyheinsistedonputtingmeinoneortheother,whenIwasactuallyhalfofeach!Whydowewanttocategorizepeople?It isthiscategorizationthatbecomesabarriertoreceivingfromamanofGod.

WhatIsHisBackground?Theeducationalorfamilybackgroundofaperson,hisqualifications,hispersonalhistory(andrumours!)aresomeofthecommonestbarrierstoreceivingtheanointing.Fortunatelyorunfortunately,Godhasdecided tousehumanbeingsasvesselsofhisanointing.Thehumanvesselwilldefinitelyhaveabackgroundofsomesort!Thisbackgroundmaynotbewhatyouareusedto.Itmaynotbewhatyouwant!Youmaynotlikethetribeorfamilytowhich he belongs.Youmay not like the colour of his skin.ButGodwill still use thathumanvessel.Yousee,Godhasmanyvesselsandheuseswhicheverhewants.

Butinagreathouse,therearenotonlyvesselsofgoldandofsilver,butalsoofwoodandofearth;andsometohonour,andsometodishonour.

Whatabouthisage?Is themanofGodoldenoughforyou?Ishe tooyoung?Ishe tooold?Inthesecularworld,peopleneedtobeacertainagetodocertainjobs.Usually,youhave to be over the age of forty to become the President/PrimeMinister of a country.Because of such laws, people tend to think that anyone below the age of forty is notqualifiedtobealeader.Thisisunfortunate,becauseJesuswasonlythirtywhenhebeganto minister. When the Levites in the Old Testament were thirty years old, they wereconsideredoldenoughtominister.

Fromthirtyyearsoldandupward…shaltthounumberthem,everyonethatenterethintotheservice,todotheworkofthetabernacleofthecongregation.

Never allowanyof thesehumanelements tobecomepronounced inyourperceptionofGod’sservants.Theywilljustturnintobarrierstotheanointing.

What you must realise is that we are like specks of dust before God. We are of noimportancetohim.Heisnotimpressedbyourhumanpreferencesandhehasnointentionofimpressingus.Ifyouaretoochoosy,Godwillbypassyouandgivehisanointingtoahumblepersonwhocanreceive.

Whoknows;maybeGodmayonedayuseyoutoministertoothers.Whyshouldanybodyreceivefromamerehumanlikeyouifyouwerenotpreparedtoreceivefromotherhumanbeings?

Dropallbarriersrightnow!OpenyourselftotheSpiritofGod!ReceivetheanointingofGodasheblessesyou throughspecialhumanvessels!Donot letquestionsofage, sex,

personality, colour, tribe, family background, education or even rumours block you offfromtheanointing!

Your life will never be the same when the barriers to the anointing are gone! Thesebarriersareinyourmind!TheyarepsychologicalobstructionstotheflowofGod’sgift.Humbleyourselfrightnowandreceiveanimpartationoftheanointingthroughahumanvessel!Afterall,youhavenochoice—thatisthewaytheanointingflows!
