till all the world adore his sacred name
Come, people, follow where our captain trod,
our King victorious, Christ the Son of God:
Lift high the cross…
bear on their brow the seal of him who died:
Lift high the cross…
draw all to you, let all the nations see:
Lift high the cross…
and on the cross adore their Saviour King:
Lift high the cross…

Gradual Hymn
of him who died upon the cross;
the sinners’ hope though all deride:
for this we count the world but loss.
The cross – it takes our guilt away,
it holds the fainting spirit up,
it cheers with hope the gloomy day
and sweetens every bitter cup:
it makes the coward spirit brave
and nerves the feeble arm for fight;
it takes all terror from the grave
and gilds the bed of death with
light;
the measure and the pledge of love,
the sinner’s refuge here below,
the angels’ theme in heaven above.
Sydney Hugo Nicholson 1875-1947
all my trust he will renew,
through all change and chance
he guides me,
God unknown,
he alone
Human pride and earthly glory,
sword and crown betray our trust;
all we build with care and labour,
tower and temple, fall to dust.
But God’s power,
God’s great goodness lasts for ever,
deep his wisdom, passing thought;
splendour, light and life attend him,
beauty springing out of naught,
evermore
Daily the almighty giver
in his will our souls find pleasure,
leading us where’er we go.
Love will stand
at his hand,
sacrifice of praise be done,
high above all praises praising
for the gift of Christ his Son.
Hear Christ call one and all:
Those who follow shall not fall.

Final Hymn
towering o'er the wrecks of time;
all the light of sacred story
gathers round its head sublime.
Through the cross, Christ's love empowers us
worldliness and self deny;
him, through love, to glorify.
Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure,
by the cross are sanctified;
peace is there that knows no measure,
joys that through all time abide.
In the cross of Christ I glory,
towering o'er the wrecks of time;
all the light of sacred story
gathers round its head sublime.
John Bowring 1792-1872 alt.

2 One day tells it | to a- | nother:
and night to | night com- | muni. cates | knowledge.
3 There is no | speech or | language:
nor | are their | voices | heard;
4 Yet their sound has gone out through | all the | world:
and their | words to . the | ends of . the | earth.
5 There he has pitched a tent | for the | sun:
which comes out as a bridegroom from his chamber, and rejoices like a strong |

and nothing is | hidden | from its | heat.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, re- | viving . the | soul:
