The 10th in the Cathedral ornament series is available at the rear of the church or on the ca-
thedral website: www.savannahcathedral.org The 2016 ornament features the St. George
and the Dragon lancet window. It is the second window from the right under the south tran-
sept window of the Assumption. St. George is the Patron Saint of England and Georgia was
an English colony. Hence there is a window devoted to him in the Cathedral of St. John the

Some Sundays during this Jubilee Year of
Mercy, something from the scriptures just leaps out as most appropriate. The end of todays Gos-
pel presents one such in-stance. At the end of the Good Samaritan
story, the answer to the question about who
was neighbor the rob-ber’s victim is “The one who treated him with
mercy.” As we continue our prayer together today, let us ask for
God’s grace to help us to be merciful to all
our neighbors.

Cathedral Book Club Come Discuss Confessions by Saint Augustine
When: July 21st 10:15-11:45 AM (5 weeks)
Where: Parish Hall Library room
Information: [email protected]
"The son of a pagan father and a Christian mother,
Saint Augustine spent his early years torn between
conflicting faiths and world views. His Confessions,
written when he was in his forties, recount how,
slowly and painfully, he came to turn away from his
youthful ideas and licentious lifestyle, to become in-
stead a staunch advocate of Christianity and one of
its most influential thinkers. A remarkably honest
and revealing spiritual autobiography, the Confes-
sions also address fundamental issues of Christian
doctrine, and many of the prayers and meditations it
includes are still an integral part of the practice of
Christianity today."

Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky
Second Collection Next Weekend Next week, our parish will take up a collection for the Solidarity Fund for the Church in Africa. While the
Church in Africa is growing, many still lack access to basic resources and pastoral care. Many suffer due to
high rates of poverty and unemployment, illiteracy, and poor education. The Solidarity Fund for the
Church in Africa supports pastoral projects that foster lasting peace and reconciliation in a continent often
marked by division and tension.
