LIVING AS STEWARDS The First Reading in today’s Holy Scripture is from the Old Testament Book of Sirach. At times this Bible book has also been called the Wisdom of Sirach. Similar to Proverbs, Sirach is a series of teachings recorded between 200 and 175 BC. The irst verse of this reading captures one of the key elements of stew-ardship. It says, “My child, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts.” The word “humility” literally means “of the earth” or in a phrase which might mean more to us “down to earth.” The good stew-ard realizes that he or she receives everything from a loving and generous God. That can be a humbling recognition. “True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less,” is how the eminent author and theologian C.S. Lewis put it. We are important in the eyes of God. Jesus emptied Him-self in our behalf. He was humility incarnate. Washing the feet of His Apostles, He comes to us at every Mass in com-mon bread and wine. If we practice and pursue stewardship as a way of life, we choose to let others be more important; we are not controlling; we support others in silent ways. Are you willing to let God take charge of your life? Being a steward means that. That is the message from Sirach, and it is a message given us by Jesus over and over. For a longer re lection on living stew-ardship, visit: http://www.thecatholicsteward.com/ Para la traduccion en espanol ver la pagina 5.

FROM OUR PAROCHIAL VICAR Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima,

HUMILITY I really admire Pope Francis for his humility. He is the shepherd of the Roman Catholic Church worldwide who could live like a king, but he has chosen to live in a simple way. Next to the Sistine Chapel, at the Vatican, there is a suite where popes have lived for centuries. But he chose to live at the Santa Martha Guest House, a place reserved for cardinals and bish-ops who visit the pontiff. Living in a simple

way is important for him. He does not need very much to live a happy life. Pope Francis has truly embraced the spirituality of Jesus Christ who teaches us to be meek and humble of heart. Yes, he has servants and many assistants as well as the Swiss guards that protect him. But imitat-ing Jesus Christ, the humble suffering Servant is important for the Holy Father. The world teaches us that we must be number one in all that we do and have the best of everything to be happy. By his own example the Holy Father teaches us that we can have a happy meaningful life, imitat-ing Jesus Christ who was and is God, but chose to live a simple life two thousand years ago. God bless you all! Fr. Sal

Humility isn’t thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy September 2 at 3pm in the church

"On leaving the earth, O Lord, You wanted to stay with us, and so You left us Yourself in the Sacrament of the Al-tar, and You opened wide Your mercy to us. There is no misery that could exhaust You; You have called us all to this fountain of love, to this spring of God's compassion. Here is the taber-nacle of Your mercy, here is the remedy for all our ills. To You, O living Spring of Mercy, all souls are drawn."

Padre Sal
