    COMING HOME

    WOMEN’S CORNERSTONE 2017

GIFTED WITH GOD’S PEACE & GRACE

    GOD'S PEACE

As I face the rising sun, Feeling its warmth and promise of the new day,

I thank the loving God for gracing me with His peace, In my home, in my heart, and within the depths of my

    soul. Amen

Plant the seed and bring a friend!

As children we sang the lively song This Little Light of

Mine. The words, of course, are based on today’s Gospel, in which we are called as disciples to be salt and light for the world. Children are uninhibited about sharing their faith. It’s only when we grow older that we prefer to hide our light under a bushel basket because our culture tends not to emphasize disci-pleship. The message in this week’s readings is clear: in order to give glory to God through our discipleship, we must show the light of Christ in our words and deeds. Not an easy thing for in-hibited adults. Often we may think of salt and light in terms of what we do for others, but it can be just as important not to do something, such as getting angry with the stranger on the road, or telling an offensive joke Peace, Fr. Frank

--------------------------------------- STREAM: A Work In Progress

Our junior high students have been preparing for their STREAM presentations in February. In conjunction with a United Nations global initiative project, students have been researching the needs of other countries and devising ways to help them, i.e. cleaner water filtration systems; more ef-ficient farming methods; ideas to promote better education. Students are making brochures and prototypes to present at the STREAM Fair in February.

    BOX TOPS FOR ST. MICHAEL’S

St. Gabriel's continues to collect Box Tops for St. Michael's School in Newark. The Box Top program is one of the nation’s largest school fundraising loyalty programs and has been helping schools succeed since 1996. With over 250 participating prod-ucts, it’s an easy way for schools to earn cash for the things they need. Each Box Tops coupon is worth 10¢ and they add up fast! The coupons are on products we buy at our local supermar-kets everyday. St. Michael's will be able to use the Box Tops cash to buy whatever they need most, from books to supplies and other school programs. So please look for these coupons on your groceries and start to clip. There is a collection box display in the lobby of the church. As always, thank you for your support of St.

    YOUTH GROUP NEWS

As we begin this new year, members of the St. Gabriel Youth Group would like to invite all high school aged parishioners to check out the Youth Group! Our mission is to grow closer to the Lord and one another through prayer, ser-

vice, discussion, and plenty of fun. Know that you are welcomed and encouraged to join us at our Sunday night meetings through-out the year. “Dear young people, the happiness that you search for has a name and a face: Jesus of Nazareth.”

    -Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

    CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD

Most Sundays until June we offer the chil-dren of ages 4-6 (including first graders) the opportunity to have the readings of the Mass explained on their level during the 10:00 AM Mass. They are dismissed dur-ing Mass to the cry room with either Sr. Esther or Mary Lee Costello who will

teach the lesson. You are encouraged to be faithful in coming to Mass regularly so that your children have a continuous progres-sion of instruction. The children return to their parents during the Preparation of the Gifts.

    BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY

    FACILITATORS NEEDED

    AT ST. GABRIEL’S

Do you feel called to serve to the needs of the bereaved persons in your parish community? An eight-week Bereavement Ministry facilitator training program is now open for registration. The course is offered by the Office of Family Life Ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark. Two hour sessions begin in February and continue into April. Participants may become Bereavement Support Group Facilitators in parishes within the Archdiocese. For class days, location, registration and fee information, please

contact Lauren Egan at 973-497-4327 or [email protected]. Pre-registration is required; class size is limited. Participants must meet the requirements of the Safe Environment Pro-gram of the Archdiocese of Newark. Please contact Sr . Es-ther if you are interested: 201-327-5663, ext. 305.

    HOPE IN GOD

Even the saints experienced times when their faith in God’s goodness was tested, yet they never gave up hope; they knew that whatever happened, God’s unchanging love would see them through. When you feel disheartened, pray for God’s grace and hope in him. “I have told you this that you might have peace in me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” (John 16:33).
