From the Pastor’s Desk:

Dear parishioners,

It is already mid-August, a new “school-year” is upon us, the most

active part of the “hurricane season” is about to begin, and even in spite of the summer heat, there is already “talk” of autumn and the harvest. With so many predictable and unpredictable things that can and will happen in the next weeks of our lives, there is a comforting message contained in the Scriptures proclaimed this weekend, particularly from the Letter to the Hebrews (12:1-3):

Since we for our part are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every encumbrance of sin which clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies ahead; let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, who inspires and perfects our faith. For the sake of the joy which lay before him he endured the cross, heedless of its shame. He has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Father Ponce will be preaching at all the Masses next weekend and also

giving his annual “state of the mission” as he reflects upon the work that we have been able to accomplish together. I hope that you will enjoy the insert in today’s bulletin which continues to explain the work of the mission and the pictures which explain more than words can ever express. The Second Collection next weekend will be for our mission in Kampala. I thank you in advance for your generosity!

May the week ahead be filled with every grace and blessing!

Whether a life-long Catholic or seeking to become Catholic, we all have a profound hunger to gather in the Name of Jesus for prayer, scripture reflection and engaging discussions. Share your journey as we deepen our participation in Christ's cross of suffering and His cross of victory. Come join us...we'll be waiting for you. Questions? Contact Terri Pastura @419-865-0030

ADORATION: Jesus hides His immense glory, beauty and dignity in the Blessed Sacrament because He wants us to come to Him in faith that we may love Him for Himself. "Come to me all of you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you." (Mt. 11:28) Eucharistic Adoration is simply our response to Jesus' love for us, whereby each of us is willing to spend a quiet holy hour of prayer in His Eucharistic Presence once a week on a regular basis.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Your call to LITURGICAL MINISTRY… Involvement in liturgical ministry not only gives us purpose, it keeps us on the right path as we endeavor to fulfill our mission to bring all people closer to God. Listed below are many opportunities for involvement in the Liturgical Life of Blessed Sacrament Church: Altar Servers: These vital ministers prepare the altar table and

assist the Celebrant during Mass. For all ages, the only sacramental requirements are Baptism and the reception of First Holy Communion.

Art/Environment Committee: Interested in design or decorating? The Art & Environment Committee needs your help in decorating the worship environment in our church with each passing liturgical season. We welcome your creative ideas, your talents and your service to enhance the worship experience during any given liturgical season.

Audio/Visual Ministry: Are you interested in graphic design? Love working with computers? Our Audio/Visual Ministry designs the PowerPoint announcements shown before Mass each weekend. Do you have a gift for working with Digital Arts or Media Production? We use an iPad and computers to propel the visual aids and music during Mass and are looking for volunteers to help in this ministry.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: To be invited by the Pastor to be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is a humbling honor and privilege! As a confirmed Roman Catholic, you are now able to serve in this vital ministerial role. This is a ministry for adults and confirmed young adults, and is an opportunity to share your faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ through the act of distributing the Body and Blood of Christ. We are also in need of Ministers to the Sick who visit and bring the Blessed Sacrament to those unable to attend Mass due to illness. Additional training is made available to those interested in this ministry.

Bereavement Ministry: Have you lost a loved one? In the Order of Christian Funerals, the church asks that the entire community be involved in ministering to the family of the deceased. If you have a gift of compassion, consider involvement in this ministry.

Lectors: Do you have a talent for public speaking? A lector spreads the Good News and gives witness to the central role of the Word of God in the life of the church.

Ministers of Hospitality: The Ministers of Hospitality have a special role at every parish liturgy, supported by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These gifts enable the minister to build up the Body of Christ. In their welcome and Christ-like attitude, ministers of hospitality ensure that the faithful see and experience the love of Christ. We are especially in need of Ministers of Hospitality at the 12 PM and 5 PM Masses.

Music Ministry: By joining our hearts with the beauty of sound, we give voice to our faith through the art of music. Do you love to sing? Play an instrument? This ministry has many opportunities to be involved.

Please prayerfully consider involvement in a liturgical ministry. I look forward to hearing from you and working with you as we spread the Gospel, the Good News, through word and action. Peace,
