This is our Church!
When you support the Catholic Appeal, you support us!
In the Gospel today, we hear about how
Jesus’ love for us never runs out. He is al-
ways there walking beside us so we can have
a refreshing and exciting life. A women met Jesus at a well
and Jesus introduced himself. He let her know she could
know Him and His love. In opening our hearts to this sea-
son of Lent, may we consider supporting those who turn to
the Church for assistance, through ministries such as the
Homebound Ministry.
Today at St. Andrew, St Mary and St. Theresa and next weekend at St. Mary and St. Theresa, Car-
dinal Seán calls on us to support the annual Catholic Appeal. In the past few weeks we have heard how the
Catholic Appeal supports the ministries of the Archdiocese serving our parishes. Your gift to the 2020
Catholic Appeal provides half of the funding for many important programs that enrich parish life
and the lives of many. Every gift has an immediate impact in our
parish communities.
Many of you have already made a pledge—THANK YOU! At Masses this
weekend and next, we fill out Catholic Appeal forms you will find in the
pews. It is important to note that our parishes get credit for the
number of envelopes we collect at Masses. We ask each household to
complete a form—even if you have already con-
tributed or are unable to give at this time. You are
able to indicate these choices on the envelope.
We are very blessed in the Catholic Community
of Billerica with the support of our parishioners
and the many volunteers who serve in numer-
ous ministries. We show our love and thanks to
God by sharing our gifts. Every gift is important,
not so much for how much it is, but because of
what we become through the act of giving it. Witness To Life

A Note From Our New Director of Worship I am so excited to begin my ministry as Director of Worship, journeying
with all in the Catholic Community of Billerica. This is my 27th year as a lay
ecclesial minister in the Archdiocese of Boston. While ministering in the archdiocese as Director of Worship for various Collaboratives, I am also
a “Minister-in-the-Vicinity” at Boston College and St. John’s Seminary tak-
ing Theology courses leading to my certification as a Pastoral Associate.
These are exciting and changing times in the Church. Vatican Council II’s
document, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, reminds us “that the faithful be led to that full, conscious, and
active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy.” The liturgy is the
perfect expression of the Church, “the summit toward which all the Church’s activity is directed and the
source of all her power.” All our ministries flow from the celebration of the Eucharist. Through our Baptism,
we are all called to serve the Church. I look forward to meeting everyone, serving our faith community, sing-
ing God’s praises, and calling forth you to serve the Church in ministry! ~Dr. Paul Ciotti
Dear Catholic
Community of
Billerica…
An Update on the 2019 Annual Financial Statements
It has always been my practice as recommended by the Archdiocese that the An-
nual Financial Report for the previous fiscal year is to be presented and published
by November. I regret that this has not happened (in this my first year) for the Fis-
cal 2019 Financial Report in the Catholic Community of Billerica (Saint Andrew,
Saint Mary, and St. Theresa).
Since converting to a new accounting system in May at the same time as converting to a new pastor, along
with staffing changes, and unexpected property issues to address, this task proved to be more challenging
than we had hoped. Some of the realities that made this once simple task so challenging were: the late roll
out of reporting functions for the financial report in the new accounting system, becoming familiar with the
functionality of the new system, even with the extensive training, and the additional work hours required to
carry out daily tasks and transactions. Due to this experience we have been unable to move forward with
the financial report, and I have made the decision to abandon all hope of doing so at this time, and move for-
ward with our daily operations. Because each parish/collaborative is required to submit financial information
to the Archdiocese at the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 2019) be assured that this work was completed and
submitted by our Finance and Operations Manager, Chris Kilburn for all 3 parishes.
We are able to provide a thumbnail sketch of finances, and assure you that more detailed analysis and con-
cerns are discussed with the Collaborative Finance Council on a regular basis. With more detailed monthly
reporting, we are communicating our financial status with more frequency and transparency. As in recent
years, our current income (Offertory and Grand Annual) is not fully meeting our expenses. A decrease in
offertory since July 2019 and a decrease in our Grand Annual year to date has had a direct effect on this re-
ality. Though we have and continue to cut expenses, we have experienced more than usual and unplanned
capital expenses related to our properties which has magnified our regular struggle to balance our budget.
We look forward to putting a budget together for the coming Fiscal Year (2021) that will closely look at ex-
penses. We will continue to bring you updates each month on the status of Income vs. Expenses in our bul-
letin as well as working with the Collaborative Finance Council as we work secure our ministries and build-
ings for service for future generations. I appreciate your patience and understanding with me this year, as I
look to improve our parish financial reporting in the future. ~Fr. Aveni
