TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

June 20, 2021

Radio Mass –WLLG-99.3 Sunday 11 am

Pastor’s Desk

Hello friends,

This weekend we welcome to our parish Fr. Deepak Baru of

the Heralds of the Good News. Fr. Deepak is from Orissa, in

North-Eastern India. He came to the United States a little over

two years ago and has been living and ministering in

Watertown at the parishes of Holy Family, St. Patrick, and St.

Anthony. We welcome him warmly and look forward to

getting to know him in the time to come!

In the Gospel this Sunday, Jesus is asleep. He and his disciples

were crossing the Sea of Galilee when a storm began—a storm

apparently strong enough to put the boat in danger of

sinking. While the others in the boat are fearful for their lives,

Jesus is found to be sleeping. How can someone sleep at a

time like that?

We should recall Jesus’s question to his disciples after they

wake him up and he calms the storm: “Do you not yet have

faith?” That question is directed to the disciples in the boat.

But we also know that the stories in the scriptures are our

stories. They’re not trapped in the past. We live them.

There are times when life seems ready at any moment to tip

our boat and throw us overboard. Everyone has these times.

But we can handle it differently than those without faith. Our

Christian faith tells us that at every moment Jesus is present,

even when God seems to be silent and distant. When we feel

that way, our faith tells us that the reality is very different:

God is still close, and he invites us to turn to him gently and

confidently for the strength and grace to move forward

through life’s press of troubles.

When things have seemed most uncertain, I’ve often turned

to this poem written by St. Theresa of Avila:

Let nothing disturb you,

Let nothing frighten you,

All things are passing away:

God never changes.

Patience obtains all things

Whoever has God lacks nothing;

God alone suffices.

Praying this, I am always reminded of God’s steadfast presence

and abiding love. Things don’t then suddenly go my way, but I

certainly am encouraged to go forward through the troubles.

To all our students as your last day of school approaches:

have a fun, blessed and safe summer! I know it’s been another

tough year, so enjoy your summer vacation—you earned it!

In Him,

~Fr. Scott

FORMATION FOR MINISTRY: Is the Spirit Calling You to Lay Ministry?

Registration is open!

God continues to call everyone to use their gifts in service to others. Have you been wondering if God is calling you to a deeper relationship with Him, His Body, and the Church? We are looking for committed Catholics who want better understand their faith and better serve the Lord. We need active lay ministers in our church to serve as an example of the faith which we profess. Lay ministry courses include scripture, history, morality and so much more.

For more information about the two year program, go to www.rcdony.org/formation/candidate, or speak with Father Scott Belina or contact Cathy Russell at

[email protected] Registration deadline is July 15th. “Be not afraid” of God’s invitation!

Reflection on the Gospel

Jesus calms the storm and asks, "why are you terrified?" How often does fear paralyze us when we are in the middle of some storm: when we lose a job or come up against some obstacle in life? Or perhaps we are in the midst of sin and really should go to confes-sion, but fear and pride stops us. Or perhaps we are dealing with illness, or loss, or just

needing to make a difficult decision. When we are in the midst of a storm, it is hard to hear the voice of God and it is hard to trust. Yet Jesus is in the boat with us. He is always with us. Let us learn to cry to him and trust him during the good times, so that when the storms arise we will remember his love and know that even in the midst of a storm, God, the Almighty, is there.

ARE YOU BEING CALLED

“Do not be afraid; just have faith.” There is nothing to be afraid of in following Christ. Could Christ be calling you to serve as a priest, deacon or in consecrated life? Talk with Fr. Scott Belina, or Fr. Christopher Carrara, (315)393-2920, ext. 1450. See us also on Facebook or at www.myvocation.net.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP:

Once we start to think about the kind of world we are leaving to future generations, we look at things differently. We realize the world is a gift which we have freely received and must share with others.

“We can’t view the world in a purely utilitarian way – geared only to our individual benefit. Intergenerational solidarity is

not optional, but rather a basic question of justice. The world we have received also belongs to those who will

follow us.”

Laudato Si, Pope Francis

Sending prayers for all our fathers, Grandfathers, Godfathers, Foster Fathers, Stepfathers, and our spiritual fathers - Father Scott Belina, Father Deepak Baru, and Father Jude, who is now at his new assignment. May all of you embrace the blessings headed your way today!!

Family Fun

Plan an evening Picnic – now that school is out, choose a night with clear skies to enjoy the outdoors. While picnics can be fun in the middle of the day, summer evenings can provide reprieve from the heat and sun. Grab a blanket, a picnic basket or cooler, and

pack sandwiches, drinks, dessert, or ingredients for smores. Everyone can help out. To begin your picnic, pray together thanking God for the gift of healthy food, the beauty of creation, and the joy of family. Talk together on how beautiful and diverse creation is!
