CATONSVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
Order of Worship
Third Sunday in Lent
March 7, 2021
Prelude: Meditation on the Welsh Hymn Tune
Ar hyd y nos Dale Wood (1934-2003)
Call to Worship
The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.
And the Lord tells us the way to life.
You shall love the Lord your God,
and your neighbor as yourself.
Grace and peace to you from God,
who was, and is, and is to come.
Come, let us worship God!
Hymn 35 – See page 6. “Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty”
LOBE DEN HERREN
Call to Confession
When we pass through deep waters
or go through times of trial,
the Lord our God is with us.
With confidence in God, our creator and redeemer,
let us confess our sin.
Prayer of Confession
Merciful God, we confess that we have not
loved you with our whole heart.
We have failed to be an obedient church.
We have not done your will,
we have broken your law,
we have rebelled against your love.
We have not loved our neighbors,
and we have refused to hear the cry of the needy.
Forgive us, we pray.
Free us for joyful obedience and a life of service;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 Kyrie: “Lord Have Mercy” James MacMillan
Silent Prayer of Confession
Assurance of Pardon
Hear the good news! Hope does not disappoint us,
for God’s love has been poured into our hearts
through the Holy Spirit given to us in baptism.
Believe this good news and give thanks:
In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!
Thanks be to God!
Response of Praise – Hymn 609 LASST UNS ERFREUEN
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow.
Praise God, all creatures high and low. Alleluia!
Praise God, in Jesus fully known;
Creator, Word, and Spirit one. Alleluia!
Life in Community
The peace and joy of the Lord
be with you and yours today.
Thank you for joining us for worship.

God of abundant life,
your grace is our daily bread.
Nourish us by your Word
and fill us with your Spirit
so that we may grow in faith and love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Scripture: Psalm 86 (selected verses)
Scripture: Romans 13:8-10

Sermon: Accept Your Acceptance
Offering
Scripture tells us that the earth is the Lord’s
and the fullness thereof.
God has given us life and resources for it,
so let us give in return.
You may give online through our website, catonsvillepres.org.
If you’re not a member or friend of the
CPC community, please consider giving
to a faith community where you live,
a neighborhood church that could
use your support at this time.
In a time of silence now, let us remember
and give thanks for God’s gifts to us this week:
time, talent, money, family, relationships,
friends, life itself.
Then ask yourself:
where is the Spirit leading me this week
to share my gifts through the work of the church
and the love of neighbor?

Prayer of Dedication
O God, may these gifts be used
as a witness to your love, peace,
and justice at work in the world,
renewing the face of the earth. Amen.
Prayers of the People & Lord’s Prayer
Lord God, there is no one like you
in heaven above or on the earth below.
Hear the prayers of your people.
Only say the word, Lord, and all shall be well.
For your Church in every place,
make us servants of Christ
and witnesses to the gospel.
Only say the word, Lord, and all shall be well.
For leaders and peole in every land,
that they may know your way and do your will.
Only say the word, Lord, and all shall be well.
For an end to oppression and exploitation,
that all your children may be safe and free.
Only say the word, Lord, and all shall be well.
For the earth that you have made,
that it may flourish in beauty
and show forth your glory.
Only say the world, Lord, and all shall be well.
For those who are ill and close to death,
draw near to them with life-giving power.
Only say the word, Lord, and all shall be well.
For our families, neighbors, and communities
struggling through these difficult times,
searching for hope, healing, and wholeness.
Only say the word, Lord, and all shall be well.
For ourselves, that we may know
and feel your love and acceptance,
and then live freely and joyfully
from this knowledge.
Only say the word, Lord, and all shall be well.

We pray all these things
in the name of Jesus Christ,
who taught us to pray saying, Our Father…
