aunting. Frustrating. Frightening.Overwhelming.
Take those words out of weddingplanning, thanks to the experts at the VillaRoma Resort Hotel in Callicoon, NY.
The team led by Wedding and Events Man-ager Katie Taylor stands ready to make yourday as special and as stress-free as possible –and it really is possible!
“If you give me your budget and your vi-sion,” promises Katie, “we can make it work.”
This is, after all, a major resort offering far
more than the average wedding venue.“Everything is right here,” says Katie, “so
you can make a weekend getaway out of it.”Need rooms? On-premises lodging is in-
cluded in every quote – with all the amenitiesof the resort.
Need a cake? It will be made to your ordersby the talented bakers.
Need a minister or secular officiant? Howabout a DJ or photographer? Just ask Katie –she’s got them on call.
She’ll even come to your room and steam

your dress or tux – honest!“I come with the package,” she smiles. “I’m
really there for them all the way through.”Oh, and don’t forget about running into an-
other bride or groom in the lobby. Despitethe Villa Roma’s sprawling grounds, only onewedding is hosted at a time.
“It’s truly all about you,” affirms Katie. “It’syour day.”
And that of your guests, who have access tothe indoor and outdoor pools (the latter in-
season), the indoor bowling alley, basketballand handball courts (indoors as well), the skihill, the go-karts, bouncy houses, saunas, cafés, the golf course, and a nightclub withnightly entertainment.
“We like to consider ourselves a cruise shipon land,” laughs Katie. “So the party doesn’thave to end!”
Got kids? Childcare, an on-site camp andeven private babysitting are all available when
From the fountain in front ofthe main entrance (facingpage, bottom) to the regalstaircase leading down tothe polished lobby (left), theVilla Roma Resort in Calli-coon, NY offers not one butmultiple spectacular settingsin which to host your wed-ding ceremony. Couples haveeven headed outdoors (fac-ing page, top, courtesy ofSamantha Derrick Photogra-phy). Afterwards, you andyour guests can gather for asumptuous reception insidethe Clubhouse (above), itswindows affording wideviews of the landscaped golfcourse and rolling hills be-yond.

the adults want to play on their own.Up to 300 guests can be accommodated
“pretty much anywhere” on the resort prop-erty, so if you want to get married outside onthe golf course or inside the tiered, chande-liered lobby, just say the word.
Katie promises your guests will be as im-pressed by the food as they were awed bythe ceremony, with the resort’s executivechef, John Nichols, personally preparingevery wedding feast (and that includes spe-cific ethnic dishes, if you so require).
The staff handles everything from servingto cleanup, setup to breakdown, with white-gloved butler service during the cocktailhour.
Since an 18 percent gratuity is part of every
package, you can expect the best from Katieand her hardworking crew.
“We won’t skimp,” she promises. “We’ll ab-solutely make sure it’s all taken care of.”
Just get in touch with her earlier rather thanlater – reservations are already in motion for2017.
Katie welcomes calls at 1-800-727-8455, ex-tension 7014 or emails [email protected].
Villa Roma’s beautiful grounds will make even thewedding procession memorable (above, courtesy ofSkye D Photography). Facing page, top and bottom: afountain in the pond behind the Clubhouse is oftencomplemented by rising mist. The spacious, comfort-able gathering spot can accommodate up to 300 people inside and out, thanks to the expansive deck.

hen Kristal Whitmore bought and reopened the bowling alley in Callicoon, NY, she had more in mind
than just bringing bowling back to thisstretch of the upper Delaware River valley.
She wanted to create a destination foranyone and everyone who likes a goodtime and a great meal.
Thus was born Callicoon Kristal Bowland truly “the best-kept secret in SullivanCounty.”
“We didn’t want just bar food,” she re-members, nearly five years later. “We
wanted people to come in and sit downand enjoy their meal. We wanted goodfood!”
Working with her former chef, Southern-born Steve Mutter, Kristal used her and hispersonal recipes to make that dream atasty reality, and Kristal Bowl’s menu ismouth-watering proof.

Callicoon Kristal Bowl is certainly a great place to bowl (aslocal league player and lifelong bowler Gregg Burton, below, demonstrates). But it’s also a great place to eat, in-cluding this Cuban sandwich with a side of corn pudding.
tato salad fritters – breaded, deep fried, served with spicy aioli and just as deli-cious as they sound.
Grabbing the #1 spot for entrees are theribs – the absolute best you’ll find formany, many miles around – slow-cookedin an outdoor, wood-fired smoker andserved on their own or slathered in home-made sauces called Callicoon Heat, Bour-bon Molasses, Honey Garlic, Thai,Teriyaki, and Salt & Vinegar.
Match them with some corn pudding, and you’ll swear you’re deep in the heartof western North Car-olina, from whencethese dishes orig-inate.
There’s plentyelse to sample,as well, from ap-petizers like que-sadillas, nachos(including a meat-lover’s va-riety) and fried pickles, to smaller-sizedishes like homemade chicken tenders,Reuben and Cuban sandwiches, shrimp ina basket, and mac-and-cheese.
Burgers, hot dogs, pizza and fries are of-

Go fancy, go casual –there’s no one way toenjoy Kristal Bowl! Tastea coquito (Puerto Rican-style eggnog) atop a barinlaid with coins andbottlecaps (left), or sinkyour teeth into a home-made pizza. And don’tmiss the ribs (wood-smoked outdoors, below). Try them all inside the Marilyn Monroe-themed partyroom (bottom, offering aslightly quieter spot thanon the bowling lanes)whilst sitting on authentic church pews

fered, of course, but for a truly memo-rable experience, pair a sliced beef brisketor pulled pork/chicken sandwich withsome sweet potato waffle fries and a cupof Kristal’s homemade potato or macaronisalad.
Looking for lighter? Soups, salads andveggie burgers can be ordered on theirown.
Or have Kristal bake one of her leg-endary cakes ordered in advance , andpick it up with the rest of your takeoutorder.
Then again, how often do you get thechance to enjoy a great meal inside abowling alley?
Whether it’s just you or a whole birth-day celebration, Kristal and her crew –which includes daughter Brianna, ReedGanyor, Kenzie, Karen, Tom, and Tanya –can find you a spot in the Marilyn Monroeparty room, at the full-service bar, orperched above the 10 bowling lanes, of-fering you a chance to cheer on the pro-fessional bowlers, chuckle at theamateurs, and be thoroughly charmed bythe little kids determined to score thatspare.
You might even get a chance to chatwith Kristal.
“I was always a people-person,” she ex-plains, “and I enjoy interacting with every-body.”
Not a bowler? Video games and billiards are available, too (top),but you really ought to give those colorful balls a spin (some real, some “decorated,” below). It will work up your appetite for thehomemade fixings at Kristal Bowl, including upscale pub fare likethis grilled chicken sandwich smothered in mozzarella and accom-panied by fresh-cut fries.
