CCAC Staff Grows with Funding from the Regional Economic Development Council

The start of 2016 brought new positions at the Arts Council as Courtney Mealy be-came the Associate Director at CCAC and Ardyth Van Scoy moved into a full-time position as the new Education Coordinator. These changes were made possible through a 2 year grant from the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC). In Courtney’s previous position as Pro-grams and Grants Manager she did a fantas-tic job developing adults’ and kids’ classes, curating gallery shows and administering the New York State Council on the Arts (NY-SCA) Decentralization Grants. Now, with the REDC grant, Ardyth will take over the edu-cational programming so that Courtney, as an Associate Director, can take on the new role of building sponsorships and assist with other administrative functions, which help to keep CCAC growing. In addition to her new responsibilities, Courtney will con-tinue to curate for the galleries, and work with arts organizations, artists and other nonprofits in Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties to expand the NYSCA program. Meanwhile, in the short time that Ardyth has assumed her new role, she has been very busy creating a wide variety of classes for adults and kids which you can see in this newsletter. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for even more classes throughout the year! Tina Hastings, Executive Director of CCAC says, “I am pleased that CCAC has been awarded this grant which will help support the salary of this new full-time Ed-ucation Coordinator for the next two years. The award demonstrates the importance of arts and culture to the economic health of the region. Many of our programs, includ-ing the Community Arts and Pottery Studio, have been created to support artists by of-fering opportunities to teach as well as sell their work through the Art on Main store. CCAC will continue to support artists of all genres as we grow and this new position will be integral to our continued success.”

Competition was fierce once again at the 5X7 Art for Everyone Exhibition & Sale. A new element introduced this year changed the odds of getting a favorite - some pieces were purposely covered, making them truly anonymous and increasing the suspense as to whether one had picked a Barbara Fox or a Mikel Wintermantel or a ? Then we all got to watch as each person opened the artwork they had claimed. It was just like Christmas morning and everyone was pleasantly surprised! Thank you to our business sponsor for the evening, Fox Financial, and all the artists who generously donated their time and tal-ents to contribute artworks for this annual fundraiser: Patti Rosenswie, Chuck Walker, Wayne Claypatch, Ardyth VanScoy, Mario Softer, Eileen Weishan, Ann Parker, Barbara Fox, Michael Weishan, Jennifer Garrett, Sue Andrews, Mikel Wintermantel, Lou Conk-lin, Shirley Hull, Maureen Migliore, Tammy Baker, Betty Runkle, Cheryl Wintermantel, Miranda Turner, Cherie Antle, Darlene Allen, Jennifer Greenidge, Darlene Subulski, Carol Shaffer, Tina Hastings, Lauren Butler, Diane DeLarme, Diane Caldwell, Judy Speckman, Dawn Lombardi, Melissa Meyers, Joan Pin-gitore, Kirsten Lounsbury, Adrianne Cook, Justice Doner, Mackenzie Sweich, Sarina Jadlowski, Zeus Enriques, Angeliyah Lazore, Orianna Jimerson, Kayla Jackson, Randee Spruce, Emma Isaac, Willis C. We provide exhibition opportunities at the galleries we curate and business development courses for professional artists as well as art classes at our studio facility in Allegany for stu-dents, both adults and children. Taste of Olean/Art in the Park will have a new location for 2016. The Taste/Art in the Park committees responded to con-cerns expressed over construction on North Union which would make the Jamestown Community College location less conven-ient for the public and for the participating restaurant vendors and artists. As a result, the event will be held at War Veterans Park, at the corner of Front and East State Streets in Olean. The event is scheduled for Sunday, July 24, 2016. The early bird deadline for artists is June 19. After that, the booth fees go up by $20, with the final booth reservation deadline July 10. Artists will appreciate the many mature shade trees and electrical outlets around the grounds that will provide easy access to power. Picnic tables, playgrounds and a pool, along with the Taste and Artist ven-dors make this a family-friendly destination to spend the entire day. It’s not too soon to put the date on your calendar and make plans for an art-filled summer day.

Thank YouPugmill Donors!

Ardyth embraces the pristine new pugmillthat you made possible!

Thanks to the generous assistance of individual donors con-tributing through our Gofundme campaign, direct dona-tions, and a grant from the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, CCAC was able to purchase a new pugmill in December! We raised $2,795 which covered the cost of this important piece of equipment for the pottery studio. Thank you,

CCAC partners with artists, businesses, and residents of the Southern Tier to provide programs, services, and opportunities in the arts. Professional development programs, art kits for children in need, administer-ing grant funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, studio classes, free art exhibitions, and promotion of events offered by other arts organ-izations are some of the ways we work to make this region a place where people of all ages want to live, work, play and raise families. Now is the time to demonstrate your belief in arts and culture and invest in an organization working toward a positive future for all. Please take a minute to make your generous contribution so CCAC can continue its mission. Thank you.

CCAC is transforming the Southern Tier into a better place to live through education, service and community outreach. Every class we teach, every child who paints, every event we promote, every tourist we draw, every festival we support, makes this beautiful place we call home, even better, more stimulating and interest-ing, where people want to live, work, and raise a family. Support CCAC by becoming a member or making a donation.
