Causes of Children Nowadays Mature Early in Life
The age at which a person can be considered as an adult is vary in the
different countries of the world. Definition for an adult is they are mature,
responsible, can make their own decision and others. However, we can realise that
our children these days have the characteristics that an adult contain. Nowadays,
children are more mature and independent. Even though a fifteen years old child can
look like a small adult and even more mature than an real adult. Today’s children are
not longer to have innocence and they also not naive like children in the old days.
They know what they want and they pursue it. They can make their own decision
about their lives without their parents’ guide. There are several reasons that cause
this condition which is children mature early in life.
Parents play an important role in their children’s life. ‘Family is the first school
for young children and parents are powerful models.’ (Honing.n.d.) Therefore, we are
noticed that children will always follow to their parents. If the parents show wrong
parenting roles including negative behaviours or unhealthy lifestyle, children also will
consider these are correct because they still young and they cannot judge the right
or wrong. Apart from that, parents uninvolved in children’s childhood also cause the
appearance of ‘mature’ children. In this new era, parents always busy for their works
so they seldom get along with children or talk with their children. Most of their opinion
is they are working for their family’s future so they do not have enough time to play
with children. Moreover, they also believe that their children can make a good
choices for themselves all the time. This is one of the reasons that forces children
turns mature because they have to figure out how to take care themselves.
In this globalisation world which full of high and advanced technology, there
are many type of electronic products such as handphones, iPad, computers. The
effects of technology on children are complicated with both benefits and risks.
Children can use it to learn more new knowledge that they usually cannot learn in
class from internet. However internet also will give negative effects to children if they
use in a wrong way. This is because internet has not filter and peer review for the
information so everyone can publish anything they want. For example, when
children start to grow up , they will curious about relationship between boys and girls.
However, parents frequently share very small part of this field. Then, children will
start to use their own ways to satisfy their curiosity. Internet is the common way they
use to find out what they want. This may cause they to imbibe the wrong information.
Plus, some of the videos which contain the erotic elements also will give a incorrect
message for children. ‘Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous
master.’ (Lange.n.d.)
Furthermore, education today also one of the pusher which cause our children
mature early. Children’s school starting age bring forward forces children to face
heavy schoolwork early. Parents nowadays also very worry about their children’s
competitiveness are not enough in developing society which is full of intense
competition. Therefore, they always force their children put more efforts on study
because they hope their children can have a better future life. Children are not allow
to spend their time to play outdoor games with friends due to their expectation and
safety problem. This condition start to make a new phenomena in our environment
which is children become miniature adults. They forget how to play and live unhappy
because they need to enter the the adult’s world early. Plato (n.d.)concludes that, ’Do
not train a child to learn by force or harshness but direct them to it by what amuses
their minds.’
Children today are growing up too fast because the pressure from the modern
world. Their childhood are eroding and they start to lose their happiness to be a
child. They become more mature and independent. They make their own decision
and they can take care themselves. They seem like an adult. This worrying
phenomena become more serious these day. Children should enjoy their valuable
childhood and adults are not encourage to let children to involve themselves in the
adult’s world too early. Thus, children should not face the burdens and
responsibilities from adults which are not suitable for their age. In their age, they
should enjoy outdoor activities and not only study in the house or school. In a
nutshell, we need to reflect the causes of children mature early these days and try to
solve it.
