CAUSEWAY CONNECTION A week of exceptional feedback and impressive performances again! Last night’s Dance and Gymnastics Showcase was very special. Many, many students took part from across the year groups producing some excellent group performances and a beautiful display of teamwork at its best. Well done to all involved. We have also had an array of visitors talking to our students this week. They have been hugely impressed by them, especially the quality of their reflection and understanding about what makes exceptional learning and how they need to improve to be highly successful. Our students are a real credit to you and us. BUGSY MALONE! STAFF ART EXHIBITION

SHARNFOLD FARM

This is our 16th trip to Sharnfold Farm this year with Year 7’s learning about Food & Nutri t ion and about Preservation with Miss Prodger.

A COMPETITION FOR ALL! We are looking for students to design an image to go on the Bugsy Malone Posters.

Students need to design and submit their design to Miss Netschepir by Thursday 24 March. A fabulous prize is up for grabs.

On Monday 7 March the whole of Year 8 were involved in a development day led by the Live N Learn team. The focus of the day was exploring how the students make choices, identifying their personality types, revisiting the work previously completed about a Growth Mind-set and taking a first look at the world of work including possible career choices. It was a very dynamic and successful day with our students playing an active role in the variety of tasks. The ‘Live N Learn’ Team

commented how impressed they were with the way our students took to each activity and their inquisitive nature. This is the first step in a process that will see the year group make choices about the subjects they study, look in detail about possible career choices and work towards a Post 16 college course.

YEAR 8 DEVELOPMENT DAY

Year 7 have been studying multi-cultural Britain so the homework project was to create a mask based on our own culture. The first part of the homework was researching into your family history, the meaning of your surname and your family tree. Students have really enjoyed this homework and we have had an impressive completion record. Student’s featured are Kenna Constable, Faith Ripley, Lucy Denyer, Imogen Arbenz and Chloe Telfer. They have gone above and beyond the brief, producing some fantastically presented pieces. Well done! The next portion of the homework is to create a mask that represents their own culture and background. This can be 2D or 3D, the more creative, the better! All details are on Show My Homework.

We are delighted to invite you to the Causeway School Staff Exhibition The opening event will be held on 24 March 3 – 4 pm

The exhibition showcases a range of work including ceramics, sculpture, photog-raphy and textiles. Exhibiting artists are Anne Barrell, Anne Castano,

David Roberts, Leah Hughes, Lucy Prodger, Martin Stammers, Matt Finney, Michelle Cavallin, Natasha Netschepir,

Sarah Glyn-Jones and Martin Mowbray. If you cannot make this event but would still like to attend you can organise a visit by appointment during school hours. We would love to have visits from groups and other schools. Please contact us : [email protected]

FOOTBALL This week saw Causeway B meet Seahaven in a league game. The last time these two sides met it was a resounding win for Seahaven. This time however Causeway were much more determined and starting to build confidence following last weeks performance. The Seahaven team were big and strong and moved the ball well but Lewis Gallop and Marcus McCarthy-Speirs were stifling the attacks with ease.

Midway through the first half Seahaven's captain unleashed a fierce right-footed shot from the edge of the box which deceived 'keeper George Denyer and founds it's way in to the back of the net. A few moments later the visiting side scored a second. Causeway managed few chances on goal, with Gallop coming closest with a long range effort that agonisingly brushed the outside of the post. Into the second half, Causeway again seemed to be under siege from a relentless Seahaven attack but with determination Causeway broke through. The ball was played wide to Luke Goldring, and after a questionable first touch there was no denying his second as he rifled the ball in to the back of the net. The next 10 mins saw Causeway create more chances. Ben Akehurst skipped passed a defender but his shot was snatched up by the Seahaven shot-stopper. Seahaven mounted a few attacks of their own late in the second half, but were unable to add to their tally. It finished 2-1 to Seahaven but the Causeway boys had won a huge amount of confidence from their impressive display and look forward to taking on Gildredge House on March 18. Man of the Match was Lewis Gallop - solid throughout.
