David thomasManaging Director

the thomas household will be all over the bodegas del Jaro sembro 2007 (£11.95) this christmas, a stunning wine that i discovered on my last trip to Spain. Whilst the estate’s top end wines are quite sensational, it was this little beauty that i thought the most amazing value for money. Soft and juicy, with berry fruits and spice, it will work brilliantly with winter stews, game and cold meats on boxing day.

rachel GilbeyManager, Caviste stockbridge

“the minute i first tried the Don Cristobal Verdelho 2009 (£7.95) i was totally hooked! it’s innovative, exciting, totally delicious and unbelievably good value for money. Whilst originating from Portugal, verdelho shows brilliantly in argentina and the combination of honeysuckle and clean, limey acidity makes it a highly popular choice for entertaining as it drinks perfectly on its own and everyone loves it!”

Martyn rolphManager, Caviste odiham

“i’m already looking forward to rounding off christmas day 2009 with a glass of delicious baron de sigognac 10 Year old Armagnac (£35.25). i often find armganac, with its slightly rustic, fruitier nuances, more interesting than cognac. i’m anticipating a bewitching combination of prunes, raisins and lightly toasted nuts on the nose, along with a depth of caramel and candied peel on the palate and a long, slow, delightfully nutty finish.”

Mark BedfordDirector, Private sales

“during my visit to champagne in June, hervé Savès kindly welcomed me beyond decent visiting hours so that i could taste through his selection. the reserve wines that make up the Camille savès Cuvée Prestige bouzy Grand Cru NV (£27.95) are aged in oak barrels and do not undergo malolactic fermentation, resulting in a wine of great depth and richness, held together by a fine acidity and a gentle mousse. i simply adore this wine.”

“i am utterly powerless to resist the Alpha Zeta Valpolicella superiore ripasso 2007 (£9.95) - baby amarone by another name and a singularly overlooked style that’s darn fiddly to make but simple to drink! full-bodied, deeply mellow and ‘amaro’ (almondy), you should drink this with friends aside ye crackling log fire with a few toasted nuts, a slice of cheese and some dried fruit thrown in for good measure. Oh joy!”

Josh pottsAssistant, Caviste stockbridge

“i don’t normally think of myself as having a sweet tooth, yet when keith tulloch presented me with his Keith tulloch botrytis semillon 2006 (£12.95) on my recent visit to the hunter valley i was very pleasantly surprised. the skill and precision that has gone into this wine is conveyed through its elegance and superb depth of flavour. an astonishing dessert wine.”

Andrew Chapmanonline sales Manager

“We all love a bargain, so it’s no wonder i’ve chosen sliding Hills Pinot Noir 2007 (£12.95) from our Winter collection. You can’t buy this incredible marlborough Pinot anywhere else in the uk. ripe berry fruit on the nose, followed by cherries, chocolate and spice - christmas in a glass, and guaranteed to warm your cockles. Or anything else you fancy!”

Heather evansstock Manager

“i’ll be stocking up on the wonderfully delicate, unoaked white burgundy, Macon-Prisse les Clochettes (£9.95) this christmas. it is a classic choice for entertaining as it’s both lovely as an apéritif, yet also matches so many dishes, making life just that little bit easier and more relaxing over the festive period!”
